Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha.

------------

Inuyasha stared at the full moon. Its light was unblocked; from his position on his tree, he could see everything. Everything except inside his brother's heart. Inuyasha recalled the cold words his brother Sesshomaru had spoken.

"I'm afraid she is part of this, by merely being your companion. My poison talons bid you farewell."

Then he had struck out at Kagome, who was nothing more than a mortal in the wrong place at the wrong time. When had Sesshomaru changed? Surely he hadn't always been this way? His brother, his oniichan, had always protected him...

------

"UGLY!!"

"STUPID!"

"DUMB!"

"WORTHLESS!"

Inuyasha (age 7) was being tormented yet again by the townsfolk. Mama had told him they were just jealous, but he was starting to disbelieve it. He was worthless. He was nothing, just a cross-breed mutt , half demon, half human.

"Quit it, you worthless thugs." Inuyasha looked up.

Sesshomaru smirked at the poor village boys. "If you don't leave my brother alone, you'll never get a year older."

As the boys ran away, Inuyasha slowly muttered "Thanks."

"I'm not helping you, pipsqueak. I just can't stand them, that's all."

Thank you, oniichan. Thank you.

----

His brother had been his role model. Back then, though, he had been nothing like this. He would never murder in cold blood...

But hadn't he? And didn't he just try again? On a helpless female... Sesshomaru had always tried to help those who couldn't help themselves... but, of course, he denied it, but he had helped. What had changed him?

Oniichan... Was it my fault...?
