------------

Sesshomaru loved his mother. She loved him. When he first transformed, she took all his shedded fur, and made him a puff. Even though it weighed him down, he wore it everywhere he went.

But she died.

She died, and while Sesshomaru was still grieving, his father brought home a new woman, a human wench who, he said, would be his stepmother. The fight they had was an enormous one, but Sesshomaru's father would not admit guilt.

That day, he stopped calling his father "father." That day, he developed a deep loathing for the human wench who tried to take his mother's place. That day... he was cast out of his family.

At mealtimes, his father would converse with his wife, happily chatting as though Sesshomaru wasn't even there. His heart grew blacker and blacker, and he began to hate the world, the community, and anyone who happened to stand out, and demonstrate to him that with family love, there was success.

Until the day he was born. On that day, a ray of sun pierced the clouds of Sesshomaru's mind, and he began to feel an emotion he had not felt since the day his mother had died.

Love. He loved his baby brother. The son of a human wench trying to take the place of a true demon, and a demon who betrayed his family and son. A half demon. One who Sesshomaru... truly cared for.

------

"Fuff." Said the baby – Inuyasha, he was to be named. "Fuff."

Annoyed, Sesshomaru answered with a growl. "No puff. I would never hand this over so a half breed like you could sully it."

Inuyasha's mouth turned into a frown, then a pout. Tears leaked down his cheeks. "FUFF!" He wailed.

The sight wrung out Sesshomaru's cold heart. So, of course, he gave Inuyasha the puff.

"Fuff." After all that trouble, the little hanyou just curled up into a ball and fell asleep.

------

Little Inuyasha was speedily chipping away at the ice around Sesshomaru's heart. Soon Sesshomaru adopted a more kind way of looking at life, if a little cocky.

This personality of his was one Miroku, Sango, and Kagome are very familiar with, now. Because Inuyasha loved, admired, and copied his brother.
