Disclaimer: The stories are mine. All the rest - characters and locations you've heard of in TV shows, movies, books etc - belong to their respective owners. I am just borrowing them.
Summary: "... and the shadows' blade will bring back the darkness to the cherished land..." - Song of Blood
Warnings: This story happens in the times of the 'Initiative' in BtVS, or better said, quite a huge part of the plot happens while Spike's imprisonment in the laboratories of Professor Walsh. I think that explains what you should be prepared to read. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, it means experiments on humans, demons or other sentient beings.
Author's Notes: Fans of Spider-Man probably won't like what I'm writing here because the only character I'm taking from the comic books is Kaine, Peter Parker's sociopathic clone. Most likely I should tell you as well that it was necessary to kill the whole Parker-Clan. It just wouldn't make any sense if there were still a Spider in New York.

- Prologue -

.

I should have died in this terrible night as the heavens were alight with flames. My future was supposed to vanish in everlasting darkness.

I wanted it. No wish was greater in my heart as to leave this much hated world. As my heart broke, I was ready. Ready to follow my destiny. Ready to do what had to be done. Ready to let go.

How foolish I was to believe I could escape so easily. How foolish of thinking to follow shadowlike and without notice those who followed me.

And now, here at this place that knows no shadows, I have realized how much I need the dark. How much I, who always wished for the sun's light, really need the night.

Realization never comes without pain. Knowledge can only be found in the blood of those breathing their last breath through your hand. Destruction awaits all those who fight against their fate.

.

A Initiative was created in the next decades. Thousands of searchers have united to find answers that were always denied to them. So called scientists, torturers of modern times, follow the drives of their kind and steal without permission the secrets of the shadows.

They take away the last remnants of their own humanity. Not even one little drop of oh so sweet sympathy is allowed to remain.

Stupid humans. Stupid, foolish children. They truly believe that such a small challenge could keep me from my escape. Who ever told them that taking away my legs would slow me down even one bit.

For too long I have waited. Too long I have allowed that those who search put stones in my way. But not anymore.

The players have arrived. The knives are hidden. Finally, after more that one hundred years, I will return to the shadows. I have seen how the light burns the souls of children who never wanted to evil. I have seen how the gifts of the night were thrown away to make room for machines which can only create more light.

The time has come to leave this dreaful place.
