Summary: Kaidoh's mission: protect the notebook.
To Protect
The first thing Kaidoh heard as he boarded the bus was Kikumaru-senpai complaining about how Inui-senpai wouldn't let anyone sit next to him because he was working on something in one of his many data notebooks.
The second thing Kaidoh heard was Inui-senpai calling his name.
The third was stunned silence as he sat down in the empty seat next to Inui.
It was very, very tempting to peek at his senpai's notebook. Just a slight shift of his gaze to the right, and no one would ever know.
But... he couldn't.
This was his one chance to discover just what Inui-senpai was always scribbling away about, and he just couldn't do it. Because his senpai had trusted him--and only him--enough to be this close.
So he felt perfectly justified in terrorizing the freshmen when they tried to rather unsubtly peer over the back of the seat to catch a glimpse of senpai at work. And when Momoshiro leaned over from the seat across the aisle to scold him for being mean to the freshman, Kaidoh considered it his duty as a kouhai to shove Momo's face into the seat so his roving eyes would not see something they shouldn't.
During Inui-senpai's "friendly" practice match against Rokkaku's Kurobane, Kikumaru-senpai had tried to kidnap the unprotected notebook (which Kaidoh could now see had "SEIGAKU - Personal Stats" written on the front) and made a run for it. The third year was fast, but no match for Kaidoh's stamina, and he had easily plucked the unopened notebook from the redhead's grasp as he sat panting on the ground.
By the time he made it back to the courts, Inui's match was over, so he silently handed the troublesome item back to its owner. Inui-senpai smiled, and said he'd been waiting.
The return bus ride to Seigaku was much less eventful. Momoshiro and Echizen were sleeping on each other as usual, and the other freshmen were too tired to be their typical annoying selves. But Inui-senpai was still jotting things down in the notebook--and that was the last thing Kaidoh remembered before he woke up with his head resting on Inui's shoulder, inadvertantly looking right at the open notebook in his senpai's lap.
Kaidoh Kaoru - Trust: 100
Heat rose in his cheeks and he started to sit up--and then he realized Inui was asleep, too.
end.
Still not a full-length fic, I know. I'm working on it.
