A/N: This is for Aishuu's "follow my lead" drabble challenge. The sentence I picked was the start of one of her Prince of Tennis stories, Dross, and one of my favorites. However, I wanted to spin this into an X story, so here it is.
Pairings: Seishirou x Subaru
Warnings: some angst, me attempting to write, and what is possibly mutated fluff (oh my... S/S fluff... O.o)
AnniversaryTen years was a long time, but not so long that connections could be completely broken.
Ten years was more than enough to ponder what could've been, what should've been, and what might've been.
It was enough time for Subaru to collect his thoughts and for him to figure out his own feelings.
At first, he was sure he hated the other man. Hated him for ruining his life; hated him for making him feel this way--clinging on to ifs and maybes.
It made him angry that the older man could still twist him inside out, confuse him, torture him, ruin his life... even so long after he was gone.
But then Subaru realized that he couldn't hate him. Not for making him feel the way he did.
That was Subaru's own fault.
Walking past the construction and scattered debris of the fallen bridge, he suddenly stopped at the place...
Did he mean the word he said to Subaru? And did Subaru think the words meant what he thought they did?
I ...lost to... you.
Subaru smiled slightly. It was the shadow of the smile of his sixteen-year-old self, yet, in its own respect was more genuine than any other smile he ever showed.
It was for his beloved.
"I lost to you too."
Dropping a bouquet of sakura, Subaru let it scatter in the wind.
He was about to turn and walk away when he paused, turned around again, and gave the same special smile.
"Happy tenth anniversary, Seishirou-san."
With that, he left.
Ten years was a long time, but then again, some things last longer.
A/N: Yay for mutated fluff. I always wanted to write something fluffy for S/S, but it's a bit hard with their relationship.
I hope I made it pretty obvious it was Sei-chan even if you didn't read the desciption.
As for the timeline... it's either 10 years after Subaru "lost" the bet, so he'd be 26, or ten years after Seishirou's death, which he'd be 35. I was thinking the latter, but it's up to you...
I also tried to fill in the "I...you" gap, but it's not what I really think. Just something to write about. P
