Chapter Three: First Impressions

Lord Inutaisho, Lady Izayoi, and their two sons sat down at the dinner table. The lord as the head of the table, the lady on his left and his two sons on his right. That was the usual seating plan, but today, there was an extra next to Lady Izayoi.
* Are we having a guest today? * Wondered Sesshomaru, the older of the two brothers, but he didn't care to ask.
As if answering his question, the door to the dinning hall suddenly opened and a girl stepped in. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome walked into the dinning hall and looked around. There was a long table in the middle of the room. A man was sitting at the head of the table and a woman next to him on his left.
* They must be the lord and the lady of the Western lands* Kagome thought to herself.
She looked around again, this time she saw Inuyasha and another man seated on the right side of the lord. The man wore no expression on his face and his eyes were emotionless.
* That must Sesshomaru, the ice prince...* Kagome thought again.
Kagome looked around again and found the lady smiling at her. Kagome merely nodded.
"My lord, my lady, I apologize for my lateness..."
"No harm done, now, why don't you come and sit next to me?" Lady Izayoi replied.
"Of course..."
Kagome walked slowly next to the lady and sat down. Moments later, dinner were served. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Little did Kagome know that the two brothers have been watching her ever since she entered the room. And once again she failed to notice that they were stunned by her appearance.
* She's beautiful; her name is Kagome isn't it? I hope Sango wasn't lying to me. That white kimono fits her perfectly and that lilac obi really suits her...* Thought Inuyasha as his jaw literally dropped to the floor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since Inuyasha was too busy staring at Kagome, he didn't notice that Sesshomaru seems to be having the same thoughts as him, but instead of keep on staring, Sesshomaru rather chose to take control of his feeling.
* What is this? How can a human girl make me feel this way? I must distance myself from her. * Thought Sesshomaru as he turned to concentrate on his food. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After about 5 minutes of uncomfortable silence, Lord Inutaisho decided that it is time to break it.
"So girl, what is your name?"
Kagome looked up from her plate and patted her mouth with the napkin.
"My lord, just call me Kagome."
"Okay Kagome, how old are you?" The lord asked again.
"I'm 15, but I'm going to be 16 in a month's time." Kagome answered.
The lord looked at his wife, and she nodded.
"Where do you live Kagome?" Lady Izayoi questioned.
Kagome was suddenly lost for words; she seems to be in her own little world and didn't answer the question that was directed to her.
"Kagome? Kagome, I ask where do you live?" Lady Izayoi tried again.
"Huh?"
Kagome was snapped out of her thoughts.
"Oh, my apologies. My lady, I don't have a family anymore. Few days ago, thieves forced their way into the village and now, nothing is left there but ashes and bodies." Kagome bit on her lips so that she would not cry.
"Oh, I am so sorry to hear that..."
"Thank you for your concern my lady..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When dinner was almost over, the questioning began again.
"So Kagome, have you been promised to anyone yet?" Lord Inutaisho asked.
Kagome was surprised by this question and she turned slightly pink.
"No my lord. Forgive me, but I wasn't expecting an interrogation, so I haven't prepared for one, please don't ask me anymore questions." Kagome pleaded.
The lord and the lady looked alarm, never had anyone dared to question their actions, but never lease, they were pleased that this girl isn't like the rest. On the other hand Sesshomaru wasn't a bit happy.
"How dare you speak to my father in such a manner, you worthless human. You should be punished for questioning his actions." Said Sesshomaru while staring at her with his icy glace. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome was startled by Sesshomaru's words.
* Am I really that worthless? Maybe the world will be better off without me, maybe...*
Kagome couldn't think anymore, she rose from her seat and turned to face the lord.
"My lord, please excuse me, I don't feel well."
"Of course, you're excused."
"Thank you..."
Kagome walked out of the dinning hall, but as soon as she got outside, she started to run blindly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sesshomaru! Why did you tell her she was worthless? She just lost her family and everything that is important to her. Don't you have a heart?" Inuyasha was fuming, and that usually means that he has once again lost control over himself.
"Why little brother, I didn't know that you have feelings for the girl." Sesshomaru teased.
"Why I ought..."
"Stop it, both of you! Sesshomaru, I am most disappointed at your behavior, and Inuyasha, don't call your brother heartless." Lady Izayoi yelled to get their attention.
The two brothers turned to face Lady Izayoi and she started to talk again.
"I have decided that Kagome will remain in the castle from now on. She will be my personal maid since she has nowhere to go. Inuyasha, go after her..."
"Yes mother..." answered Inuyasha.
He got up from the table and ran out of the dinning hall, just as Kagome did minutes before. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome ran through the corridors and went outside. As she was going through the garden, her legs gave in and she collapsed onto the flowerbed.
That's how Inuyasha found her... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I have decided that Kagome will remain in the castle from now on. She will be my personal maid since she has nowhere to go. Inuyasha, go after her..."
"Yes mother..." answered Inuyasha.
He got up from the table and ran out of the dinning hall, just as Kagome did minutes before. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
