Author's Note: Hey everyone, it's me again. This is just a little story/scene I wrote one day in an attempt to overcome my massive writer's block, but I thought I would post it anyway and if ya'll like it I may keep it around D Anyway, as the standard disclaimer, no, I do not own Wolf's Rain, or any of the anime characters; if I did I wouldn't be writing fan fictions like this, now, would I???? A good rule of thumb is, if it's in the anime, it's not mine; reversely, if it's not in the anime, it is mine, unless I cite another source. So, ya, now that all of that is out of the way, let's get going!!!!!
Hitoribocchi
Kiba ran ahead of the pack, determined to reach Darcia's Keep before nightfall. Cheza was there, she had to be. He couldn't think of anywhere else. The thought of her, alone and in pain, made Kiba's heart ache and he ran faster. A light, drizzling rain began to fall as Kiba pulled further and further ahead.
"Hey, wait up!" Hige called out from behind Tsume. "We can't keep up with you like that!"
Kiba slowed but refused to stop, looking over his shoulder as he continued trotting forward. Tsume started to follow but stopped and looked back instead. "Where's the runt?" he asked in his usual deadpan manner.
"I am not a runt!" Toboe managed to gasp out as he stumbled towards the pack and fell down hard on his knees. "Don't worry about me, I can keep up!"
"Oh ya? Then why are you always lagging behind?" Hige asked teasingly.
Toboe climbed to his feet and crossed his arms with a huff, wrinkling his nose at Hige. "I can keep up." he repeated sullenly.
"Come on." Tsume interrupted. "Let's go." Without waiting for an answer, he turned and ran after the patient white wolf in the distance.
"Hey! Wait up, would ya?" Hige shouted before giving chase. "Come on Toboe!"
The steady drizzle continued as the wolves ran across the barren hills. Rocks dotted the dreary scenery like forgotten pieces to a cosmic game of marbles. Life here was rare; only a few of the toughest brown tufts of grass survived. The whole area reeked of emptiness. It was as if the pack had run into a great void where there was no life or death, light or dark, only hopeless empty gray as far as the senses could reach.
The wind picked up, blowing in Kiba's face as he ran. He was relieved to find a scent again until he realized what he was smelling: fresh blood and the distinct scent of an unknown wolf.
Tsume was startled to see Kiba jolt to a stop for no apparent reason. He stood a few feet back as he watched Kiba sniff the air again and stare over the next hill. Hige came up beside him, panting slightly. "What's up with him?"
"Can't you smell that?" Kiba asked before Tsume could answer.
Hige took a few deep breaths before sniffing the ground uncertainly. "I don't think so."
Kiba shifted his weight to his back legs, preparing to take off running. He finally turned his head away from the hill and looked back at them. "It's a wolf. Let's go." Without waiting for an answer, he took off in the direction of the scent.
Second Author's Note: Ya ya so it goes on from there but I decided that to post the whole thing would be too long and this seemed like the best stopping point to split it. So when I get around to typing the other half I'll post it, okay, and until then, well, this is what you have. Enjoy! Oh! And please review! I realize it's only half the scene but please tell me what you would do to improve it!!!!!
