Angel sat in a corner of his cell, wondering how it had all gone wrong. His joy at finally achieving shanshu had been quickly destroyed by a visit from Holland Manners, who informed him that he'd been resurrected by the new CEO of Wolfram and Hart, Lindsey McDonald. Then, his son Connor had been induced to join the firm; Angel was forced to watch Connor sign a perpetuity clause which yoked him to Wolfram and Hart forever. Now he alone, left to brood in solitude.

A loud bang startled Angel. Peering through the semi-darkness, he spotted a vaguely familiar figure.

"Wake up," the man said as he pushed a tray in the slot at the bottom of the cell door. "Time for breakfast."

"Who are you?" Angel demanded.

"Me? I'm the late Lee Mercer, formerly one of Lindsey and Lilah's associates. I'm the one who hired Faith to kill you. Boy, did that ever backfire. They're pulling all the old gang out of hell to work under the new regime. Me, Lilah, Gavin, Linwood, Nathan Reed, and of course, you've already seen Holland Manners," Lee said cheerfully.

Angel growled.

"Oh, by the way, I've got some mail for you," Lee said, tossing a postcard through the bars. "Read and enjoy," he said with a smirk.

Angel grabbed the postcard. Curious, he turned it over. The first thing he noticed was the Italian stamp. Uneasy, he began to read.

"Dear Amigo:

Having great time here in Rome. Made some new friends in our Italian office. Ilona says 'watch out for those gypsies'. Met a really nice girl, an American, who's living here with her little sister. Nice kid, I may hire her on as an intern next summer after she turns 18. Anyway, we've had a great time in Rome going out to clubs, yadda, yadda, yadda. Fortunately, I made a full recovery from my injuries, so I have plenty of energy, if you catch my drift.

Luckily for me, she broke up with her last boyfriend, Mort, after finding out about his fling with two 'ladies of the night' back in the day. Gotta love the rebound effect. Who knows? She might just be the 'one'.

I could tell you more, but a gentleman never kisses and tells. Hope you're having fun in sunny LA.

Ciao, Lindsey"

Angel slumped against the bars. Why me? What did I ever do to Lindsey to make him hate me so much?, he thought self-pityingly.

The End.
