Love of the Rose
They lay on their backs together, side-by-side in the field of roses. Their chests heaved as they tried to catch their breath, after chasing each other for what had seemed like ages. While resting they both looked towards the sky, to the clouds.
"That one, over there," said the girl as she pointed a finger towards the sky, "it looks like a rabbit!" The girl laughed and looked over at the boy beside her.
"I think it looks like a horse!" he replied, laughing with the girl. The girl suddenly stopped laughing and sat up quickly
"What? What is it, Sakura?" the boy asked slightly worried that he had said something that had hurt her feelings.
Then Sakura looked down at her watch.
"It's getting late Li, you should go before Father comes looking for me..." She stood and stared at her feet, arms by her side.
Li stood too.
"Sakura, like I said before, I love you, I truly do," Sakura lifted her head and smiled as he said this. "If you love me," Sakura said, her smile slightly fading, "then you would leave, before we both get into allot of tro-"
Sakura never finished, because Li had locked their lips together in a tender kiss...
When they broke apart, Li started to back slowly away from Sakura, heading to a track at the edge of the field. Not far down the path, it disappeared into a forest.
As soon as Li was out of sight, someone grabbed Sakura's shoulder and turned her around quickly.
"Father!" Sakura quickly shrieked, "What are you-"
"Who was that boy?" Sakura's father said sternly, but Sakura didn't answer. She didn't want him hurting Li – who she believed to be her true love. Sakura stared down at her shoes, biting her lip.
"Tell me." Sakura's father shook her shoulders roughly.
She didn't budge
"TELL ME GIRL!" he shouted and when she still said nothing he slapped her across the cheek.
Sakura screamed as she fell back down into the red roses. Tears streamed down her face as her father turned her around again and lifted her up by the collar of her dress. She saw him bring out his gun and cock it.
Sakura screamed again as he pressed the barrel to her stomach.
"Scream again and I'll shoot, now TELL ME HIS NAME!!"
"Li my name is Li,"
Sakura's father turned to see Li at the end of the path.
"Run Li! He's got a-"
There was a gunshot...
Sakura's yellow dress started to turn red.
"SAKURA!" Li screamed as he raced towards her.
Sakura's father dropped his daughter and aimed his gun at Li's head...
Another gunshot was heard as a flock of birds flew out of the nearby trees.
A few seconds later Li's body was limp in the ground, his blood the same red as the roses surrounding him.
Sakura's father took one more look around him...
One more gunshot was heard. Sakura's father would rather die than rot in a prison cell...
The world became very quiet all of a sudden in the field of roses...
