Chapter 15

Linda and David laughed together as they walked arm in arm from their cab to the apartment building. They had a fantastic time over dinner, both enjoyed their meal and talked seriously, about Vince and about his wife, who had died five years previously and not so seriously – causing a lot of people in the restaurant to turn around and look at them when they both got the giggles after they had shared a joke.

"So did you have a nice time tonight?" David asked as they waited for an elevator.

Linda looked at him fondly, "Yeah I did and I relaxed, so I guess your mission is accomplished!"

David laughed, "Yep it is." He said as they stepped into the elevator. "So would you come out with me again, if you needed to relax?" He said pressing the elevator buttons.

"I think I would." Linda nodded.

"So how about coming out on Saturday with me again?"

"Saturday?" She said, slightly taken aback. "Well, I don't think I'm doing anything so why not?" She smiled.

"Why not indeed?" David agreed. "We could go to the movies if you like, or if you wanted to do something more adventurous we could go ice skating."

Linda laughed out loud, "Ice skating? I haven't done that in years, I'd probably fall flat on my ass."

He laughed with her. "Well, if you do, I promise I'll pick you up, I won't leave you there looking like an idiot."

"Gee thanks!" She paused. "Ok, yeah. Ice skating will be fun, even if I will be covered in bruises by the time we've finished."

They walked out of the lift and to Linda's door and faced each other. "Well, if you are covered in bruises, I'm sure I could think of something to make them better." David said quietly, his face serious now.

Linda looked at him and before she could stop it, he kissed her, she found herself kissing him back, despite her head screaming at her that this was crazy and it was going too fast.

He gently pulled away, "I guess I'm supposed to apologise for that but I don't really want to because I enjoyed it." He said quietly, looking at her.

She smiled in spite of herself. "So did I."

"So are we still on for Saturday then?" He asked.

Linda nodded, "Of course."

"Great, well I'll come pick you up at about seven thirty?"

"That'll be great."

"I'm sure we'll see each other before then though." He smiled.

"I hope so." Linda smiled as she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him again. She pulled away and unlocked her door. "See you then."

"Bye," He said quietly as she went into her apartment and closed the door.

He sighed, as he walked over to his own apartment, he found himself thinking of her and what a wonderful woman she was and felt something stir within him that he hadn't since his wife died.
