I do NOT own Detective Conan.

I know, I know, it's short.....

December Rain (Shinichi x Ran)

Mouri Ran sat quietly on an old wooden bench, letting the calm winter breeze capture her mind once again. This had now become a familiar "hang out," for whenever she was feeling down. It may not have made her feel great, but it was something different and she enjoyed the times she had spent here. When she was here, she didn't worry about being alone or unaided, all she had to do was let her seasonal dreams adopt her whole mind.

"Ah," she felt the soft sprinkles of the December rain come down on her cheek as she pushed herself up to stretch her tired limbs, then returning to her reserved seat on the little bench.

This time, Ran loved the sound and feel of the rain as it began to fall a little more, but remaining as soft sprinkles. It reminded her of someone. It was someone important to her, someone she didn't want to let go of. Naturally, remembering him would just bring tears to her eyes. This time was an exception, she was happy-- no, she was hopeful as she pictured him in her mind.

But who wouldn't be? The image was so clear; it was as if he really stood before her. She remembered everything; it was as detailed as it could be. She noticed the coat... the one she had especially saved up money for just to give to him as a special present. But it was worth it and was keeping him warm from the cold breeze creeping over.

Now it all went back to normal, she felt the tears as they fell from her eyes and rolled down her cheek. The image became blurry; it was fading into the distant rain and leaving her once again. The pitter-patter of the rain became louder as it began to fall more and more.

Now, even though the image her mind had created was gone, she could feel it. She felt the warmth of his embrace... but he wasn't there.

"Shi...nichi..." the words came painfully as she sat there...

.....alone in her own December rain.
