I Don't Belong
"Sweetie what's wrong?" Inuyasha asked as he sat down on his daughter's bed.
"It's nothing dad, let it drop." Kyara said furiously wiping the tears from her eyes.
"Kyara I'm your father. What's wrong?" Inuyasha demanded.
"I don't belong here," Kyara whispered, as her father put a comforting arm around her.
"What do you mean you don't belong?"
"Just that! I don't fit in here. I'm different. I'm like the grapefruit in an apple orchard."
"You aren't a grapefruit."
"Yes I am!" Kyara yelled standing up, "I'm a penguin in Bermuda. I'm the third eye. I'm the fire in the ice cube. I'm the rain in the desert. I'm the one person here that doesn't fit in. Dad I'm the only ΒΌ demon in the school, the state, heck the country! Do you know how much I hate lying to my friends every new moon because I can't just go up to them and say, "I'm sorry, but I'm going to transform into my demon state. But we can go to the movies tomorrow night!" I can't join sports teams because I'm too strong and people would notice. I have a father with dog ears for god's sake!" Kyara cried out flinging himself unto her bed. Inuyasha hesitantly patted her back.
"I'm sorry I embarrass you," he muttered.
Kyara sat up and hugged Inuyasha. "Dad it's not you. It's me. I am who I am and nothing will change that. Just like nothing can change you, and I wouldn't want you any different then you are now. I love you the way you are. I mean how many people in the Modern Era have friends in the Feudal Era?"
Inuyasha smiled, and then frowned. "Do you feel that you belong more to the Feudal Era?"
"No," Kyara sighed, "If I thought that I wouldn't be complaining about not belonging anywhere."
"That's not true" Kagome said from the doorway, "You belong here with us and the people you love and love you."
"Mom..."
"Here I brought you tea," Kagome said, placing the hot mug in Kyara's hands. "Cheer up! It could be..."
"Worse," they all said together, laughing.
"Thanks guys." Kyara said hugging her parents.
