Chapter 1 – A World in Disarray
The regal mountains stretched their prominence across the horizon. Huge and vast they were, but ever so graceful. The apex of each was lightly sprinkled in a pure white snow which sloped down into rocky conditions, finally leveling out in lush, yellow and green plains of high grasses and wheat. The air was crisp with autumn breezes that blew in no specified direction, yet peaceful all the same. Blue skies leaked into all the empty spaces of the land, as feathered clusters of vapor accompanied. Sakura breathed in deeply, letting the mystical atmosphere take hold of her while at the same time, allowing her to be free. Who would want to destroy a place like this, Sakura asked in thoughts, scanning the landscape she was born to love. She answered to herself, almost reassuringly, i only the envious.
The past three days had given her a lot of time to have these moments of subtle meditation, though to others the incident may have made the following days seem like a surreal blur of emotional suicide. However, Sakura was not inclined to feel or think such things. She was not like the rest.
Stealing one last glance at the sparkling peaks, Sakura retraced a few steps back to her humble cottage. Quaint, as she liked to call it. Small; nonetheless, home. Though now it was an empty home, besides herself. Now there would be an empty room, forever unoccupied by those cloaked by the robe of death.
As she walked through the front door of the house, she could see a newly installed camera blinking at her from a high corner. Its round head did not take away from its menacing features. Ever since the attack had occurred three days ago, all privacy was shattered. It seemed that government officials had finally made it to her home as well.
Three days ago. The phrase on each civilian's mind and lips. The forbidden fragment that echoed throughout the lands, like an innocent whisper into a dark cavern.
