Phantom's Last Thoughts
I stood in waiting, knowing Zero would arrive soon. I had seen him beat Anubis, the last of the four bosses, a few seconds ago. "Damn that Reploid. Who does he think he is? Master X is fighting for the humans' future and he would rather work with the Resistance extremists. Foolish Maverick."
My attention was drawn back to the monitor as I saw the red Reploid slash through Fefnir's blaster hand, obliterating it. I saw my fellow guardian teleport out of the room. I scowled deeply and said to myself, "How dare you run, Fefnir. He should keep going until one of them is dead."
I watched as Harpuia and Leviathan also fell to the Z-Saber's power and, just as Fefnir had done, ran. It sickened me that three of the Four Guardians would turn tail and run from a single Reploid. Each one of them, myself included, had taken out entire armies. Now, just because Zero smacked them around a little, they decide to become cowards.
At that point, the truth hit me. I was the only one left between Zero and Master X. If I fell to his attacks, then he would be able to attack the ruler of Neo Arcadia. I knew that I would have to do whatever possible to protect the entrance.
I turned from the monitors when the door opened and the century old hero stepped in. I felt the tension rise. I asked, "Why do you fight against Master X? You both have the same goal, to create a safe world for the humans to live in. Come with us, Zero. You know that Master X can give you the power you deserve, unlike those Resistance pigs. Help your friend."
A defiant smirk came onto the red Reploid's face. "Your 'master' is nothing but a cheap copy of the original Megaman X. He is a faulty Reploid that thinks the only way to help th humans is through destruction. I have no choice, but to destroy him." he pulled out his famous Z-Saber. "And if I have to, I'll destroy you as well, Phantom."
I laughed. "You think you can kill me, Zero?" I disappeared and reappeared with three copies. "Prove it."
In one swift move he had pulled out his Shield Boomerang and had flung it around the room, striking the real me in the leg and destroying my copies. I found that I couldn't move. As Zero walked past me, he said, "I beat you before, so you should have known to switch tactics. I'm guessing you plan to run like your friends." the red Reploid had finished opening the last lock on the door to Master X and passed me again, returning to the entrance.
"No!" I yelled, enraged. "I won't let you attack Master X!" I activated my self- destruct mechanism. "If I must die, you'll die with me!" the blast filled the room, as did my laugh. I would be the one to kill the Maverick. My last sight was one that killed my spirits. Zero closing the door, safe from the blast.
Then, I felt death overtake me. It was a final pain unlike any other. I eventually felt a flush of numbness, followed by nothingness.
THE END
