Disclaimer: I do not own FF7.

My fics have not been updated in a very long time... It's very upsetting but I absolutely HAD to post this one-shot.

At midnight he asked me to meet him outside, so I did. He stood there, in the dark, looking up and watching the stars while I watched him. For a long time I just stood there, not knowing whether or not he knew I was there. But of course, he knew. Vincent Valentine always knew when he was being watched.

He asked me to come closer so I walked up next him and waited. Eventually he began to speak. Very quietly as always. Silent and mysterious is Vincent Valentine, he wasn't any different on that night. When he started speaking I was confused. He asked me about the sky.

"Do you like to look at the sky during the day, Miss Lockheart? Have you ever watched the clouds pass by and wondered what it would be like to be up with them? To see if they really felt like cotton, or to see if you could stand on them? Have you ever looked at the sun even though your parents told you not too? It's bad for your eyes, you'll go blind, something along those lines?"

I nodded. Of course, didn't everyone? I voiced my thoughts to see if he thought the same.

"That's very wise of you to say Miss Lockheart. If one can see, one can dream. Even the blind can dream. The day has that kind of effect on people. Clouds look like they can support but they are only made of water. Condensed water vapor is what they are. You can only stand on them in dreams. But have you ever looked at the sky during the night, Miss Lockheart? Did you have the same feelings as you did during the day?"

I told him that I had never really taken the time to look at the night sky. Nighttime is when I sleep.

"But of course. Isn't that is everyone's excuse? Look at the sky now, Miss Lockheart. Do you see the stars? The moon?"

I nodded.

"The night sky and the day sky are both the same sky. During the day the sun blinds all. You cannot see the stars and the moon is just a faded, insignificant, little semicircle. The stars are beautiful things Miss Lockheart, don't you agree? Each one is different and special in its own unique way. They might all look the same from here but if you look closer you will see that they're not. Hidden by the sun they are. Shame isn't it?"

I nodded again. The stars really were beautiful, but I still couldn't understand why I was there.

"The moon is full tonight Miss Lockheart, do you see? So bright, so radiant. Safe to look at, unlike the sun. Ironic isn't it? The moon only glows because it reflects the sun's light. It's only too bad so many cannot appreciate this glorious night sky." He then turned to me and bowed slightly, "Goodnight Miss Lockheart."

I still wasn't comprehending so I stopped him and asked why I was there.

"I understand you have a dilemma Miss Lockheart. What your dilemma is, I do not know but I brought you out here to think. Think of the sky when making a decision." He left then after again bidding me good night.

I understood then. My dilemma. The sky would help me decide.

Day or night?

Cloud or Vincent?

Clouds look like they can support but they are only made of water. You can only stand on them in dreams.

During the day the sun blinds all. You cannot see the stars and the moon is just a faded, insignificant, little semicircle. Hidden by the sun they are. Shame isn't it?

It's only too bad so many cannot appreciate this glorious night sky.

Glorious indeed... She would not be one of those people. She could appreciate the night sky.

And she would show Mister Valentine she could appreciate the night sky, just to prove her point.

Interesting? I'm not surprised. It's pretty late over here... But nighttime is a wonderful thing! Part of the reason why I wrote this fic.

Please review. I would love to read them, even in my very tired state!
