Cats
Mesmerized by their movements
as they dance in front of me.
Staring in wander at their cat-like faces
and their eyes filled with glee.
Bodies like felines,
movements of grace.
They all sway together,
each of a different race.
Some from different countries,
others dark alley residents.
Some as ancient as the Sphinx
and others modern day pets.
Some of them were exotic,
with coats of stripes or spots.
Some looked like miniature tigers,
while the others did not.
One of them was fat and gray,
another lean and black.
One had tuffs of fur at the neck,
and another had stripes on her back.
But one stood out
among all of the others.
He was lean and tall
and had a coat of different colors.
A calico he was,
one of the many few.
He was unlike all of the others,
exotic looking and new.
His lean and sleek body
swayed to the music so gracefully.
The dance all seemed made for him,
the way they went together so beautifully.
When he moved to the music
he entrance me with his dancing.
When I finally heard his voice,
I was entranced by his singing.
But then he was gone,
and I was snapped back to reality.
I felt like I had been floating
and then suddenly pulled down by gravity.
Then all of them disappeared
and I felt left behind.
I felt like I belonged with them,
even though I wasn't of their kind.
