Betrayal

The scene of Tomoe's death from Kenshin's point of view. From the second of the two Original Animated Videos, Rurouni Kenshin, Trust and Betrayal.

My cry of anguish still echoed in my ears as I watched her body fall to the snow-covered ground. I hadn't seen her running in front of Tatsumi to protect me. I hadn't been able to avert my sword rapidly enough to avoid striking her, along with my enemy.

And now, my tears roll freely on her face as I hold her, filled with grief and pain. She smiled at me, takes her dagger, and seals the scar made on my face by her first beloved, her fiancé whom I have killed. Then her hand drops, and she grows limp in my arms.

She shouldn't have died! I will protect you, I said. I promised to shield her from any harm. Why wasn't I the one to die? This sequence of events, all wrong! All wrong...

My tears run out, and I am left alone again in the falling snow.
