Thusckk. Thusckk. The sound I heard was of my dragging footsteps. I almost looked wistfully back, but I forced myself to continue on, away from which I held dear, away from what I had come to call home. My determined eyes barely noticed the glimmering glow of the fireflies fluttering about me, lighting my path. My path to Kyoto.
Before, I thought I'd found a home. And I thought I could just stay there, and live in comfort with myself, with Kaoru. For that one time, I savored living normally. I thought I deserved it.
Well, I thought wrong. So now I walk away. Again. Like so many times before. Nothing has changed.
But something has changed...I have someone back there, waiting for me. Several people, in fact. I smile as I remember them, back to that one time I thought I was happy.
But I was happy. And maybe I still can be.
