To whom it may concern:

This one-shot poem is very loosely based on Bob Dylan's song "The Man in the Long Black Coat. The format is the same, but the only words from the original song used are "the man in the long black coat." Originally this was going to be a song-fic, but as I read the lyrics I thought it would be better as a poem. Hope you like it!

Disclaimer: As soon as I own LXG, believe me, I'll tell you! But for now, I don't.

The Man in the Long Black Coat

Silence around him, no-one else in sight,
He sat in a corner away from the light.
Senses chaotic, eyes hollow and wet,
A mind full of memories he wished he'd forget.
His head washed with sorrows, his hands at his throat,
Alone was the Man in the Long Black Coat.

He'd finally been caught; this must be the end,
Surely given away by some old, so-called friend.
Invisibility wasn't all it had first seemed to be,
He could steal, filch and pilfer from all endlessly.
He would never get caught; to his friends he would gloat.
'Not now', thought the Man in the Long Black Coat.

Three entered the room and went straight for this man.
One held his arms, the second cuffed his hand.
The last stayed in the corner, not making a sound,
And watched as the others held him to the ground.
He reached in his pocket and pulled out a note,
And read to the Man in the Long Black Coat.

"You must leave," read the man in the corner unseen.
"To join with five others to fight for the Queen"
"You're fee in the form of your cure," He did quote,
Great surprise to the Man in the Long Black Coat.

He did not think for long, and quickly replied,
A cure for his torture needed no compromise!
Releasing their prisoner, they departed with haste,
In a carriage to take him away from that place.
His mind was afresh; felt as if he could float.
A new life for the Man in the Long Black Coat.

NB: There we have it! Do you realize how hard it is to find decent words that rhyme with "coat"? It's alright for Mr Dylan; his lyrics don't have to make sense! Anyway, it wasn't perfect by far, but any feedback is gratefully received!
