Piper clutched at the ledge desperately. At the same time, Harry was battling with Hermione, trying to get there to help Piper. Neither seemed to be working.
Piper blinked away tears as she struggled to get onto the ledge. She didn't want to die, she had no idea how she had gotten there, and she wanted, needed someone to help her up before she fell. She looked down, and swallowed hard. It seemed so far away, no one was going to help her after all.
She knew she deserved to die, after all she'd done, to Harry, to everyone. But, as she reflected on her life in the last five years, she felt her hands slip. She didn't struggle anymore, she didn't deserve to live, and was now going to pay for what she had put everyone through. She fell, the ground coming closer, almost waiting for her. Then, twenty centimeters above the ground, she felt herself slow down, and eventually stop in mid-air. She hovered for a while, then collapsed to the floor.
