Chapter 6

Whoever invented high heels ought to be drug out into the street and shot.

Of course, she didn't have to wear the little calf length, spiked heeled boots, especially when she was walking all over Hells half acre, but they looked good with this skirt.

'Why does this damn place have to be so far away from the bus station? Why the Hell didn't I just take a cab? And what the Hell are you staring at, kid?!' A little boy on his bike had slowed down to stare at her as she walked. She ought to be used to this by now, people had been staring at her for years. But once the existence of mutants had been discovered, people stared at her for different reasons. And this stupid kid, who she had since passed, was now slowly following her. 'What're you gonna do kid? Run me over with your Huffy?' Rolling her eyes, she set down her duffel bag and discreetly removed a compact from her purse and checked out what the kid was up to. He was starting to speed up, apparently he was going to try and run her over. A smirk graced the young woman lips as she made a small gesture with her hand. In the mirror, she watched as the bike made a sudden dead stop, causing the kid to fly off it, half onto the sidewalk, and half on someone's lawn. And just so he didn't get any more crazy ideas, another gesture left the spokes of the wheels nicely bent out of shape.

Snapping the compact closed, she placed it back in her purse, picked up her duffel bag, and resumed her walking.

'Never let it be said that I don't like children.'

"I'm leaving, on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again..."

At the sound of Remy starting up yet another rendition of the Chantel Kreviazek song, Jean chanced a look at her boyfriend in the pilots seat beside her. Even with his visor masking his eyes, she could tell he was pissed off. His knuckles were white from his steel grip on the controls, and she could almost hear his teeth grinding over Remy's, and now Kitty's, little performance.

Getting Remy to come with them had been far easier than expected. Well, the whole possibility of arrest was defiantly the deciding factor, but he could have just as easily run off on his own. Scott was even less impressed after hearing that. He was all for leaving Gambit there to rot in a prison cell. His argument for this was it would be damaging for the X- Men to harbor a fugitive, to which Gambit countered that you're not a fugitive until the cops actually come to your door. So that was that.

Of course there had also been getting passed a rather pissed off mother who wanted to know who the hell these people were that were in her house and why they were there while Remy was babysitting. Jean laughed to herself at the memory, the woman was about ready to tear Remy's head off, shouting in Cajun French, while Remy tried to get away from her, also spouting off in French, at the same time another man tried to calm everyone down, and the little girl sat on the steps laughing at her family.

And now, after hearing '99 bottles of beer on the wall' about three times, then moving onto the 'Leaving on a jet plane' song, Jean was a more than a little relieved that they were almost home.

'Where is that damn address? It's Grey-something, I know it is.' The young lady with the sassy little boots had stopped to rest on a bench after walking for a half-mile. The aforementioned boots were now off her feet and beside her on the bench. 'These boots were most certainly NOT made for walking.' She thought as she wiggled her toes to get some feeling back into them. Digging through her purse, she finally found what she was looking for. 'Aha! Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, 1407 Greymalkin Lane. Well, now I just gotta find where that is.' She looked around to see if there was anyone around for her to ask directions. As luck would have it, a pair of elderly women were walking towards her.

"Excuse me! Could you tell me how to find Greymalkin Lane?" She stood up as the women approached, trying to appear respectful. The two ladies stopped and stared at her disheveled appearance, she wasn't even wearing shoes for goodness sake! Then they got a good look at her hair, and moved away from her as quickly as they could. "Hey, where're you going?" She called after them. "Fine! I don't need your help! I'll find it myself!" She sat back down on the bench in a huff, wondering what to do next. She couldn't be that far from this place, this town was only so big after all. Deciding that sitting wasn't going to get her anywhere, she picked up her purse and duffel, along with her boots and continued in what she hoped was the right direction.

"Are we dere yet?"

"If you ask that one more time I'm pushing you out of this jet, now get back there and sit down!"

"Fine, be dat way, see if I care." Remy made his way from the front of the jet at Scott's side, back to his seat with Piotr, Rogue and Kitty. He had been doing everything humanly possible to irritate the shit out of Cyclops, and by the looks of that last reaction, he was succeeding. Seriously, the guy needed to lighten up, but it was going to take a lot more that annoying antics for that to happen. Maybe they could find a way to surgically remove whatever crawled Scott's ass and died. 'Ya'd t'ink with all dat Professor's money, dey'd be able to figure a way to do it.' He plunked down in his seat next to Piotr. "Seriously, are we almost dere? I'm bored."

"Oh, so sorry we aren't entertaining enough for you Mister LeBeau, we shall try much harder in the future." Kitty said in a snooty English accent as she phased her head through the seat in front of Remy's. Remy, who was not accustomed to seeing a disembodied head on a regular basis, jumped back and made a rather undignified yelp.

"Could you maybe, I dunno, NOT do dat!?" Remy sat back again and tried to catch his breath, and kick the seat when Kitty started laughing. Rogue, who was obviously a much more sensible person, looked over the top of her seat rather than go through it.

"Won't be much longer Swamp Rat, so why don't you just relax and sit quietly?" Okay, maybe too sensible. Remy looked up at her in disbelief.

"Swamp Rat? We back ta dat again? And whatddya mean 'sit quietly'? I've been good de last...five minutes." He looked around for a second. "Besides, I have...uh, oh yeah, ADD! Along wit' ADHD, it's hyperactive cousin. So I can't sit quietly, therefore I must continue to annoy leader boy up dere."

"You do not." Piotr gave him a look. "You are annoying Cyclops because you are a jerk, not because you have...whatever that is."

"Petey, how can you say dat about me?! Ya wound me!" Remy gave him a look of mock horror and clutched his hand to his chest. Piotr in turn cuffed him across the back of the head. "T'anks a lot dere 'Comrade'." He said, rubbing the back of his head and glaring at his old friend.

Standing before the gates of 1407 Greymalkin Lane, the still barefoot girl set down her bags and raised her arms in triumph. 'I found it! I rule! Yeah baby!' Glancing around, she tried to figure out how to open said gates. 'Maybe there's a doorbell or something...' She looked back toward the vast mansion and was startled by a figure that hadn't been there a second ago. The figure was a young female, who had a rather hard look in her eyes, and what was probably a permanent scowl on her face.

"Um, hi! Do you think you could maybe help me?" she tried to ask in a cheerful manner, but her voice faltered at the almost animalistic way the girl on the other side of the gate appeared to be guarding the mansion behind her.

"What do you want?" The 'guardian' asked.

"Uh, well, actually, I'm here to see Charles Xavier." She told the mean looking girl with as much courage as she could muster. The other girl gave her one last hard look before disappearing from sight. "Hey! Come back! I really need to see this guy, please!" But she was gone. "Damnit!" She then kicked that wall, forgetting she wasn't wearing her boots. She let loose a string of curses just as the gate began to open. 'Well that was unexpected.' Still hopping on one foot, she picked up her belongings and made her way up the long driveway.

Finally reaching the front porch, she set her things down for a moment to rest. That was when the front door decided to open.

"I'm sorry child, Mariko doesn't have the best people skills." A warm voice spoke. "Won't you come in? I'm sure you've had a long day." The woman before her was a tall woman of African descent, with long flowing white hair and a very gentle demeanor.

"Uh, thanks." She picked up her stuff and made her way into the massive foyer. Waiting inside was the man she had come so far to see.

"Good afternoon, I am Charles Xavier. I believe you've been looking for me?"

"Yes, it's good to finally meet you sir. I'm Lorna Dane."

AN: Happy Belated April Fools Day everyone!! I tried to put this up last night, but I couldn't get on the site! So, anyone get pranked? Someone in my dorm building decided to put condoms on all the doorknobs for all the doors of the stairwells. It was a little sick. Great idea, but rather yucky. Alright, this chappie was a kinda short compared to the last one, but I wanted to get this one out since I'm not sure how soon I'll be able to update next. End of Semester and all that crap. I'm going home for like 2 weeks to work and then coming back out here for my one and only final exam. Hopefully I won't be too tired and can update; when you start work at 6 in the morning, ya never know. I don't really like this chapter, but it needed to be done, so it is. Now let us move on to the shoutouts.

PomegranateQueen: Dentists are from the Devil. And I hear ya about the wisdom teeth, I had all 4 of mine removed last summer, that really sucked. Hope your mouth is better now!

Nessie6: Well, this wasn't asap....but I tried, I really did! And piggy banks rule!

Peace215: Haha! Hey, that's better advertising than most of the ads you see out there, and those are done by professionals. =0)

Star-of-Chaos: If people don't review, I don't know if anyone is reading, and then I would have to stop writing this...even if ya leave just one, then I have an idea who'd reading this, which you did, so yay!

Ishandahalf: Yessss....for now. I guess there was a microscopic bit of romy this chapter, maybe it was more like banter, I dunno, I'm tired.

stAte: Yay! I'm on a favorites list! I know where this story is gone end up, it's just the whole getting there aspect that I'm still working on. =0)

Whoo! Six reviews this time! That's...wait a sec..*counts on fingers*..Twice as many as last time! You guys rock! Of course I don't really expect many reviews for this chapter since I think it kinda blows, but it's done now, too late!
