Chapter 7

Sitting in the plush office of Professor Charles Xavier, the green haired Lorna Dane glanced nervously around the room. Everything was happening so fast, one minute she was on their doorstep, the next she was in the headmasters' office, being offered a place at this school for the mutant population. Xavier was going on about something, but Lorna was having a hard time paying attention. 'Way to make a good first impression there Dane, don't even pay attention to the one guy who might be able to help you.' Turning her attention back to Xavier, he was just getting into the pesky business of her lovely little powers.

"Now, Miss Dane," Xavier placed his hands on his desk and tried to give her the most non-threatening look possible. "We need to have a little discussion in regard to your powers." He paused for a moment, trying to articulate his thoughts without coming off like a prick. "Your gift, it bears a striking resemblance to another mutant that everyone here knows all to well..." This was not an easy thing to discuss for both parties involved. It had been bad enough when one of the most powerful mutants on the planet was running around trying to bring about the end of humanity in favor of those who bore the gifts of Homo Superior, but after the defeat of Apocalypse, after having attempted to turn his life around, he began to slowly slip back into his old role of the self-proclaimed savior of mutant kind. After numerous acts of terrorism towards 'normal' humans, the government had launched an initiative called the 'Magneto Protocols', guidelines on how to take down the crazed mutant should the need ever arise. The young mutant before Charles knew this all too well.

"Yes! I have the ability to control magnetism, just like that bucket- wearing-psycho-man!" Lorna exclaimed throwing her hands in the air. "I figured that this little school of yours might be a little more accepting of this whole thing, unlike the rest of the freakin' world!" Many mutants had similar powers to other mutants, there were many telepaths and energy wielders out there, but it seemed to her that if you had similar powers to a mutant that had tried to assert mutant superiority, then you must be exactly like him!

Charles sat back with a rather amused expression on his face. Not to her plight, but more to her attitude. She had a spark, there was no question about that, but she seemed to have a bit of a temper. He could understand that, given her situation, but it would have to be monitored, especially if she was the mutant he thought she was.

"Lorna, believe me, the people here will not hold this against you. It will shock them, yes, as several have had unpleasant run-ins with Eri...Magneto, but they will not ostracize you for that." He paused and tilted his head slightly. "And there are those who will not even look at what your powers are." A thump was heard outside the door as Lorna turned to see what Xavier was referring to.

As children, most are taught that eavesdropping was is a bad thing; that it's not nice to listen in on other people's conversations. Apparently that was something that the Drakes forgot to go over with their son.

With an ear pressed against the door, Bobby Drake strained to hear what the Prof was talking about with the girl that showed up earlier that day. She came in the door, barefoot, hair a mess, good God she was a hottie! It had taken every ounce of will power he possessed to keep from drooling on the fancy Persian rug. Hell, to keep from melting ice all over the rug.

Off in his little dream world, Bobby failed to hear the approach of one Kurt Wagner, who was trying to figure out what on earth Bobby was doing. Though it wasn't unusual to see Bobby spying on somebody, it was a trait that many of the girls around the mansion had sent him to the infirmary because of on several occasions, but it was odd to see him lurking outside the Professors office. Deciding to get to the bottom of this, Kurt used his tail to tap Bobby on the shoulder, causing the younger X-Man to jump three feet in the air, lose his balance and fall flat on his back.

"I don't mean to pry, but vhat are you doing out here?!" Kurt hissed at the figure on the floor, who seemed to be in some sort of daze.

"Girl...Hot...Girl..." Bobby stammered out as he got to his feet.

"Huh?"

"Prof...Girl...Hot...So hot..."

"What?!"

"Girl...Office...Hot...Prof..."

"Bobby! Vhat the Professor does in the privacy of his own office is none of our business!" This managed to snap Bobby out of his little daze.

"Ugh! Kurt, that's sick man! No! He's in there with what I'm hoping is a new recruit, and she's totally hot!"

"Oh...okay then." Kurt was giving him a weird look when the door to the office opened, revealing the object of his friend's incoherence. A girl about the same age as Bobby with bright green hair stood in the doorway with a look of surprise on her face. It took Kurt almost thirty seconds to realize that he was in front of a stranger in his natural fuzzy form.

"Holy God..." She blurted out before she could stop herself. "Uh, I mean..."

"Lorna, these...gentlemen will be two of your teammates." The Professor wheeled out of the office behind her, gesturing to the pair in the hall. "This is Kurt Wagner, also called Nightcrawler." Kurt grinned sheepishly and gave a small wave.

"Don't let my bizarre appearance fool you, I'm really not the spawn of the devil." He laughed nervously, hoping he hadn't freaked her out. To his relief, he laughed.

"Aw Hell, it's all good! I'm Lorna." She extended her hand. "Good to meetcha." Smiling, Kurt accepted her hand.

"And I'm pretty sure the young man next to you is Bobby Drake, but I cannot be certain..." Charles said with a raised eyebrow, as Bobby was standing almost hunched over, eyes glazed, mouth agape, with a small amount of spittle at the corner of his mouth. Placing a hand to his temple, Charles reached out to his pupil's psyche and gave it a little push. Robert. This naturally caused him to jump three feet in the air again.

"Uh, sorry...I'm a little, uh, out of it today...that's it." Standing up right, he puffed out his chest and made his way to the newbie. "Bobby Drake's the name, but 'round here, they call me Iceman." Using his hand, he slicked back his hair and gave her what he thought was a rather charming smile. To which Lorna responded by bursting out laughing.

"Oh my God! You are too cute for words!" She managed to get out between her laughter.

"Well, on that clever note, I think I shall leave the two of you to show Lorna around the mansion." With that, Charles left to go about his business.

"Okay, so, Lorna? Where would you like to be taken first?" Asked Kurt.

"You people got a kitchen around here? I'm starving!" She stated as she grabbed her two guides and dragged them down the hall.

AN: Okay, this is a bit of a filler chapter, just kinda wanted to get this out since it's been who knows how long since I've updated. I'm not gonna able doing the shout outs this time around, since I'm typing this on a computer without internet, and the actual internet computer here is dial- up, and I don't want to tie up the phone line. But I would like to thank Alyxandria for reviewing chapter 4, 5, and 6 all at once, that was pretty cool =0)

Anyhoo, I'll try and get the next chapter out sometime over the next week. So for those of you reading this for the Romy content, both halves of that particular relationship will be back next chappie.

Peace, ~Leishy
