All was silent on the ship that night. Not a breath of wind stroked Jack's hair nor brushed his cheek. He stood on the end of his beloved ship, staring up into the stars. The silence was soon broken by his own foot steps as he turned to go to his cabin.

The crew must be asleep now... Jack thought. He smirked to himself. I think I worked them too hard.

He entered his cabin. It was incredibly lonely in there. Nothing but a desk on one wall, and a bed on the other. A nightstand next to his bed, with papers and notes and his journal which he kept of all his journies.

He heaved a great sigh and stroked one of the braids on his chin. He paced his room. Just thinking. It would be three days before they reached Port Royal again for Will's and Elizabeth's wedding. The letter still lay on his nightstand. He picked it up and read it over again for the hundreth time in a row:

Jack,

I don't know if this letter will reach you faithfully, but I had to somehow reach you and tell you the good news. Elizabeth has agreed to take my hand in marriage! And as we have already sent out a number of invitations, I thought it would be only suitable that I invite you my friend. I know it has been months since I have written and I am dreadfully sorry. And we have run out of formal invitations, and with Governor Swan's permission, I have decided to address and invite you myself through this letter.

I don't know how or when you will receive this letter, but when you do, please take it into consideration. It would be delightful to see you again. And also when you arrive, I have a request that I must give to you, which you must ALSO take into great consideration. Which I sincerely hope you do.

I hope that we see you at the wedding. And Jack, please don't bother to dress formal. I know how you hate that.

All the best,

Will

He set the letter down and stroked his chin again. He thought the letter over once again before setting it down. He really had missed the old lad. And it didn't surprise him one bit that he and Elizabeth were soon to be tying the mighty knot. He had graciously agreed to go to the wedding and had written a reply to Will as soon as he could. Though, getting mail from Tortuga to Port Royal was a bit hard. Mail boats weren't exactly reliable, but he trusted them all the same.

Jack turned to the window and looked back out at the moon. It sent an eerie blue glow across the water that churned behind the ship. He heaved a sigh. "I wonder..." he whispered to himself.

He graciously decided he wouldn't worry himself about it any longer and decided to get some rest. As he changed into his night clothes, he thought of the day he'd first seen will. It made him laugh every time he thought about it. But as he laughed, he heard a faint rustle outside of his door and halted. He knew that no one in the crew got up in the middle of the night to wander...so he pulled out his pistol and crept to the door........
