A Halloween Night
Disclaimer: Nope! Don't own any part of the Harry Potter World!
Harry watched the night sky twinkle with it's millions of stars... it was October thirty first... Halloween.
It was also the day that his parents had died for him.
He clutched his cloak tighter as the night seemed to close in around him. The Astronomy Tower has many open terraces used for sky gazing. Fortunately, every one of the Hogwarts Students were at the feast that night.
Harry felt a tear slip slowly down his cheek. His parents had been sacrificed, no matter what others said. It was Harry's own fault that he didn't have any parents... all his fault. The sadness was threatening to choke him, clamping down on his wind pipe, and not allowing any air to come forth.
Another tear fell.
He was all alone... he had no one now. Ever since he had led Sirius to the Department of Mysteries, guilt and sadness had become a part of his every day life. No one really cared, even if they said they did. He knew better. Remus was still to much in grief to talk about his best friend... even though he insisted to Harry that it was not his fault. Dumbledore had even taken him from the Dursley's early in hopes of cheering him up. It didn't work so well, considering that he was taken to Grimmauld Place, his godfather's old mansion.
Yet another tear... Harry choked on a sob as a shooting star fell across the sky.
"Potter?"
Harry brought a sleeve up to wipe away the tears. He turned to see his Potions Professor leaning against the door way. Harry watched as Snape drew nearer.
"Why are you not at the feast?"
Harry shrugged slightly and turned back to the sky, dimly registering that there were goose bumps all over his skin. Snape sighed and draped his cloak over Harry's shoulders.
"I didn't feel like eating." Harry told him, his eyes taking in the sight of his teacher robeless, it didn't really suit him.
Snape snorted lightly and then turned his fathomless eyes onto Harry, observing him. The professor then turned to the sky... watching as the full moon glowed a bright orange. A harvest moon.
"They wouldn't want you to blame yourself, Harry."
Harry turned sharply towards his professor and watched as he sat on the ledge along side him. He tugged Snape's robe tighter.
"It was my fault."
"It was not." Snape replied. "Black and your parents loved you and if they knew that you felt that you were responsible for their deaths, then they would blame themselves. The only one at fault is the Dark Lord, and you have already proven that you are more than worthy to take him on."
"Professor, I've had help every time." Harry protested, shrugging out of the cloak and handing it back to Snape. "Everyone I know is going to die because of me. They already have!"
Snape pushed the garment back into Harry's hands and robed him inside it... finally doing up the buttons so that there would be no chance at removing it. "No one has died because of you. Guilt is something that you've grown with. However it is not your fault. Nothing is. You have my sentiments for your parents... but, they would not want you to blame yourself."
Harry sighed and looked up into Snape's eyes. "Thanks, Professor."
"Don't mention it, Potter. Happy Halloween."
Snape retreated from the tower, leaving Harry to smile as he realized the cloak contained a heating charm. "Happy Halloween, sir."
Just a little doo dad for Halloween! I hope that your special night is filled with tricks and treats!
