Chapter Two: Failure

Pain coated her body as Raven slowly woke up. The walls of an underwater cave greeted her as she opened her eyes. A groan slipped through her lips as she tried to sit up. Softly, a pair of hands pushed her back down.

"You should rest. You swallowed a lot of water." A familiar voice drifted to her ears. Raven turned her head to see that the owner of the voice and hands was Aqualad. She shivered slightly as she realized that her plan had failed. She was still alive. Raven turned away and whispered,

"How did you find me?"

"Actually, I found you by chance. I had thought that someone had tried to drown you so I brought you hear and went to tell the others..." He stopped talking as Raven stood up using his shoulder to steady her. Once she regained her balance she walked to the edge of the water entrance of the cave. She knelt down and lend forwards. Gulping slightly, she pushed her head under the water and opened her mouth. "Raven!"

She felt his arms wrapped around her midriff and him lifting her into the air. She kicked her legs violently as she tried to get him to let go. The attempt proved useless as he started to carry her bridal-style to keep her from kicking him.

"Put me down!" Raven could faintly feel her powers slipping from her control. He seemed to realize that as he walked farther and farther away from the edge of the entrance. He knelt down next to one of the walls and set her down. Aqualad didn't move from his place in front of her though.

Raven began meditating in an attempt to tame her powers once again. She could feel Aqualad watching her every move to make sure she didn't try to kill herself again. After what seemed to be hours he asked the one question she didn't want to hear,

"Why? Why are you trying to kill yourself?" She bowed her head to keep him from seeing her face. They sat there in silence for a minute or so before the T-sub broke the surface of the water behind them. Aqualad stood up and reached out his hand to help Raven up.

"Friend Raven! Are you alright?" Raven looked up and answered,

"I'm fine." She glanced at each of her teammates. Robin stepped forwards,

"Come on, we have to get back to the tower to double check if anything is wrong." He stepped closer. Raven's power lashed out and struck the ground in front of him.

"I'm not going back."
