Three friends sat outside on the school terrace during lunch.

"Halloween's coming up," Willow smiled. "What are you guys going to be this year?"

"Not a Victorian snob, that's for sure," Buffy replied.

Xander spoke with his mouth full of tuna sandwich. "How about a vampire?"

"Totally eww," the Slayer said in disgust.

"That's gross!"

"What?" he said after swallowing. "You kill vamps everyday. Why not be one?"

Buffy shook her head. "No way. Angel..."

"Sorry, Buff," he realized quietly.

Willow suddenly grinned. "You'll never guess who I'm going to be!"

Her two friends stared at her blankly.

"Drusilla!"

...

"Drusilla?" Xander questioned. "Why?"

"True, she's a little skanky... and evil... but it'll be fun. Pretending is fun."

Buffy's eyebrows raised. "But what if we have a repeat of last year? You'll become an evil skanky vampire."

Willow snorted. "Yeah, like Ethan Rayne's gonna come back here... Anyway, Oz wanted to bleach his hair and be Spike."

"Oz?" Buffy screeched.

"As Spike?" Xander managed while choking on a potato chip.

The Slayer stared deep into her eyes. "Who are you and where did you put Willow?"

Willow burst into laughter. "Tricked ya! You really thought Oz would dress as Spike?"

...

"Well," Xander said, "I already thought of my costume."

"What is it?" asked Buffy.

In a Transylvanian accent he announced, "Dracula!"

A moment later Cordelia and Oz joined them for lunch.

"Well, not that I want to invite you or anything, but who's coming to my Halloween party?"

"I'm for it," said Willow. "You wanna go, Oz?"

"Sure," he replied. "Have any costume ideas?"

Willow looked at her best friends before suggesting, "Fred and Wilma?"

"Cool."

Xander beared his non-pointy teeth. "I'm Dracula!"

"Not at my party," Cordelia snapped. "I've seen too many vampires to let any in my house."

...

"How about you, Buffy?" Cordelia wondered. "Are you coming?"

"Uh... Scott's busy that night. And I should probably patrol... or something."

Willow was puzzled. "Patrol? Nothing ever happens on Halloween!"

"Did you forget about last year?" Buffy asked. "I just want to make sure nothing happens again."

"Do you need our help?" Xander offered.

"No, I can handle it the slayage. You guys go have fun at Cordy's party."

On Halloween night, while kids trick-or-treated and friends partied, Buffy was in a cold dark mansion, watching over a restless Angel. Slayerhood was not a costume she could take off.
