Prologue to Promised and Forgotten

Her throat constricted. She couldn't face this. Now now. Clutching her four year old daughter close, she rocked slowly, her eyes vacant. The child, Alondre, struggled a little, but her mother would not release her.

The little girl with big dark eyes, and full dark hair, shone her eyes up at her mother. Raven simply stared vacantly ahead, as if she was not truly there, but an empty shell with her eyes.

"Raven." the voice filled her silent room. She winced, but it wasn't His voice. A dark figure moved towards her, causing little reaction. A strong, nimble hand touched her shoulder. She stared at it for a long moment.

"Robin?" she breathed. He nodded, stepping into her view.

"Starfire's got Sadia." he paused, thinking of Cyborg and Raven's smallest daughter. "Should I take Alondre?"

Raven looked him in the eye, and an involuntary whimper passed from her lips. She clutched the girl close. Robin ran his hands down her arms.

"Raven, listen to me. Cyborg didn't. . ." he lost his words. "He wouldn't have turned on us. On you."

Raven looked up at him, tears finally welling in her eyes. He wrapped the woman and child in his arms, burying his face in her hair.

The little girl finally pushed free of the desperate embrace, grabbing at Robin's shirt.

"Papa!" she burbled. Raven closed her eyes, stung.

"No, Alondre. . . he's not your papa." she firmly stated, but the looked that passed between Robin and Raven was a strange one. She opened her mouth to speak. "Robin . . . "

"We'll find him, Raven." he interrupted. She looked away, and finally nodded.

Cyborg could only think of his beloved girls, and his wife.

"Rae, I'm so sorry." he muttered. He couldn't feel good about this "undercover mission" anymore. They'd found out who he really was. They'd found his family.

"I'm sorry, Raven."

He'd watched them take her, watched the Titans fall. He could only console himself with the knowledge that Alondre and Sadia were safe.

Had to be safe.

He could see her, through the glass. They'd tied her to the bed, and tortured her slowly. Small incisions filled with shards of glass. The white sheets were now stained red.

If he hadn't been tied down, he'd have burst straight through the wall to get to her.

A man exited the room and looked at him.

"She lost the baby." the man smirked.

Cyborg froze, staring at Raven's limp form. She'd been pregnant again, and hadn't told him.

Had she known?

Out of no where, her screams filled the room. Her powers ran amuck, destroying everything they touched.

Except him. They were not gentle, but they protected him.

Finally, he was lost to the darkness. His last thought, was the knowledge that Raven had died thinking him a betrayer.

Tears stained his cheeks.
