Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha.

It had always been a part of her, and she had never known it. Always been there, making her fill fulfilled and accept her normal life. She hadn't known it, but it was a piece of her soul at birth. My, what a happy baby she had been!

And, in her later years, she had found no need to fall in love, having a part of someone, something else already within her; a whole, not a half.

But, now... The feeling was gone, lost forever. It had been physically ripped from her. So soon after being torn apart, it shattered. She could still sense the shards of her broken other half, and tracked them down, one by one.

But, each time, they were snatched away once again. She felt so empty now, so different from before. She longed for her old life, still not knowing that it would never, could never be the same. She couldn't concentrate like before, with this ever-present, raw feeling of loss.

Now, though, she had found her true other half. Inuyasha, the half demon that held the bleeding remains of her heart.

He too kept being snatched away from her, time after time after time.

Two fiends. Naraku and Kikyo. Both had stolen a large chunk of her soul away. Both were heartless, cruel. She hated them both.

But, to hate Kikyo was to hate herself; not to mention what a part of her, Inuyasha, loved.

And to hate Naraku was to hate someone who felt unrequited love towards the unattainable, just as she loved Inuyasha.

She couldn't win.

But, for now, she would just search for her other half and act as though nothing was wrong, when nothing would ever be right again. Sometimes, though, her own frustration leaked through...

"SIT BOY!" she screamed, sending InuYasha a foot under the soft sand.

"HEY! What the $& DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING, #$&?! I DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING THIS TIME!"

"You don't understand!" she yelled, storming off. But, just before she got out of hearing range, she turned back for the last word.

"And NO, Inuyasha, I do NOT sense any jewel shards!"
