A/N: I feel obligated to tell you all that, unfortunately, you won't be receiving any reviews from me. This isn't because I don't like what you're writing, it's just that my computer won't let me review. It's the same with adding favourites, so, if you click on my name you'll find a list of my fave authors on FanFic. The reviews I managed to put on were done in a rush during a free period at school. Lioness Fury, sorry, I didn't have time to put up a review for you, so this story is dedicated to you.
This is my first Daine/Numair, who I absolutely adore! Tell me what you think.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything, but you all probably know that.
Dedication: To Lioness Fury. Thanks for the support.
Never Let Go
Numair
Numair stared at his reflection in the mirror. He must be insane. This wasn't supposed to have happened. He was never supposed to fall in love with her; he was supposed to teach her, guide her. Oh, Gods above, damn his heart.
Daine
Daine was grooming Cloud, her grey mountain pony. Her mind wasn't on her task however, it was on Numair; the love of her life. Kissing him was like swimming; if you went out too far, you ran the risk of drowning. Thankfully, he never let her. She knew that he was having second thoughts though. Damn his head.
Numair
"Daine," Numair said to his worktable. He couldn't say her name without melting. He had told her he loved her, so many times, and yet, it wasn't right. She was so young. But she meant so much to him. He had to do something; he was losing his mind.
Daine
Sitting in the hay, Daine wondered what Numair was so worried about. She loved him; she'd told him often enough. He had told her the same, only the next day, he hadn't been so sure. The day after that, he had. Daine really had to know what was going through his tormented mind.
Numair
Numair lay on his rug. He had to face it. He was lovesick. There was absolutely nothing he could do about it so he supposed he'd just have to get on with his normal life plus Daine. If she wasn't sick of him of course; he must have really made her head spin these last few weeks.
Daine
Looking on as the stable mouser gave birth to her latest litter, Daine wished that Numair would make up his mind. It wasn't easy finding out in a mere few days that your parents were Gods, that your teacher was in love with you and you with him and that suddenly he doesn't know if he's right.
Numair
Everything had been blown totally, remarkably, completely out of proportion. Even as he walked down to the stables to tell Daine of his decision, Numair was hesitating. His head was telling him one thing, while his heart told him another. He had to fix this. Numair was so distracted, he couldn't even perform spells the right way. Love sure was dangerous.
Daine
Daine wondered what would happen today. Would he decide to love her; or not? As Daine held up a newborn kitten, she realized that she had to be sympathetic. Numair was being this way to really make sure he knew what he wanted. That way he wouldn't hurt her. Daine smiled and knew that, even if she ended up miserable, she would respect his wishes.
Numair
Numair stood in the stable door and watched Daine pick up a kitten and smile. He smiled himself and realized how stupid he'd been. He loved her. Daine made his life complete. How would he go on if he lost her? No more second thoughts, he vowed. No more hesitating. Numair took a breath as he approached the girl and told her his decision.
Daine put the kitten down and heard Numair out. She smiled her beautiful smile and kissed him deeply. His arms circled her and held her tight to him. Daine knew she needn't worry. He would never let her go.
