Mac walked into the Jag bullpen when she returned from her case with Harm. She couldn't help but feel relieved, possibly even a little glad that Cresswell wouldn't be the new JAG. She was on her way to her office when she bumped into Sturgis.

"Excuse me Mac," Sturgis said as he passed her and entered his office.

'Wait a minute,' Mac thought to herself, 'why's he going into his office and not the JAG's?'

Mac set her briefcase and cover down in her office before making her way to Sturgis' office and knocking on the door frame.

"We have a new boss?" she asked casually.

"Major General Cresswell," Sturgis replied, "I thought Bud had told you."

"Last Harm and I heard the hearing wasn't going in his favor," Mac said, she was getting a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach.

"The committee ruled in favor of him," Sturgis said, "We've got staff call at 0900."

Mac just nodded and returned to her office. She closed the door and the blinds before sinking into her office chair.

'This is not happening,' she thought to herself, 'This could scuttle my career. Harm's right though, he could have changed, I have. I'll give him a chance but I might want to start looking into some civilian positions in the area anyway.'

She was drawn out of her thoughts by a knock on the door. Before she had a chance to answer the door opened. There was only one person in the office that was brave enough to do that.

"Hey," Harm said as he closed the door behind himself, "I heard about our new boss. How you holding up?"

"At the moment I'm still in shock a little." Mac replied, "part of me says you're probably right about his changing in the past 15 years. The other part is telling me to start looking for another posting in the area or even a civilian job."

"Mac," Harm began, "even if Cresswell hasn't changed there's plenty of posts out there you can do without going civilian. You tried that once, it didn't take remember?"

"Where Harm?" Mac asked, "Where are there plenty of posting?"

"The San Diego office needs a new chief for one thing," Harm pointed out.

"Harm I was serious, what I said on the ship," Mac stated, "I'm not going to let him split us up."

"We're getting ahead of ourselves a little Mac," Harm said gently, "give the man a chance. Maybe he's changed, and if he hasn't then give him the chance to see that you have."

"How long of a chance Harm?" Mac asked, "I can't put it off forever."

"Give him two months, until Christmas," Harm said, "Then if things aren't going well we'll figure something out."

"What if I can't find a new post here Harm," Mac said tearfully, "I don't know if I can survive without you again. The 5 months you were with the CIA were the hardest of my life, even harder then when you went back to flying."

"Listen to me Mac," Harm said brushing away her tears and looking her in the eye, "If one or both of us have to leave the service to make it happen I promise you this. I will not let Creswell split us up. Understood?"

Mac nodded and then fell into Harm's arms when he offered them for a hug. Harm kissed the top of her head.

"I promise you Mac I won't leave you again," Harm said, 'I love you to damn much,' he thought.

"Now you should probably splash some cold water on your face before staff call." Harm said releasing her from the hug.

Mac nodded wiped her eyes one more time then opened her office door and made a beeline to the bathroom.
