Gondor Calls

By lordoftheringsfanficreader

When the beacon has kindled,

So has the hope of the city.

Flame devours the lumber,

Engulfing it in heated wisps of light.

The signal has been sent.

The next beacon is lit,

And the one after.

It will continue on and on.

Flame on the mountain clefts,

Smoke puffing in the sky.

Peaks above the clouds,

Light burning in the darkness,

Under stars in the heavens.

Snowy tops alight,

Alerting those who see.

The White City despairs,

They call in a time of need.

They are lit through the night,

Sending the message along.

The trail of fire goes on.

The final beacon is lit,

The signal has been retrieved.

Gondor calls for aid.

Author's Note: The part in the movie where the beacons are lit has always been one of my FAVORITE parts, so I thought it only reasonable to write something about it. I wrote this while watching The Return of the King, and just got inspired as I watched all of those beautiful shots of the beacons being lit on the mountain tops, their red flames rising above the peaks... yeah. I had a lot of fun jotting this down. The original ending to this was going to be: "Gondor calls for aid, And Rohan will answer", but I thought that the Rohan part softened the bang at the end a little too much. Well, let me know what you think in your review. (And you will review, right?)
