AUTHOR'S NOTE
FROM HERE ON OUT, YOU'LL SEE TWO NUMBERS IN PARENTHESIS NEAR THE NAME OF MONSTER CARDS. THE FIRST NUMBER IS THE MONSTER'S ATTACK AND THE SECOND THEIR DEFENSE. I'M ALSO USING SOME CARDS I MADE UP.
Chapter Three: First Round With Evil
"Ready to duel? Just in case you don't know, we each start with 4000 life points and the first to hit zero loses. Understand twerp?" the girl asked.
"Just one thing I want to know: Who are you?" Saria asked. The girl pushed a strand of hair away from her head.
"Not that it means much to you, but my name is Cassidy and don't you forget it!" Cassidy replied, "But enough of this, I'll go first. I play Gemini Elf (1900/700) in attack mode, and I'll also set a card face down, ending my turn," Cassidy declared. A hologram of the two cards she played appeared in front of her.
"My move then!" Saria said. She studied her hand and smiled.
"First, I'll play a monster in defensive mode, and lay two cards face down, ending my turn," Saria declared. She watched as her three cards appeared in front of her.
"OK twerp, time to feel some pain. I'll first summon Summoned Skull by sacrificing my weak Gemini Elf," Cassidy began. Saria watched as Cassidy's monster vanished and the Summoned Skull appeared.
"And then, I'll have it attack your monster! Summoned Skull! Lightning strike her defensive monster!" Cassidy commanded. Saria grinned as Cassidy's monster prepared to attack.
"Sorry to disappoint you Cassidy! Reveal face down trap!" Saria smirked. She pressed a button on the duel disk and Cassidy gasped.
"It's my Mirror Shield trap card. It flips up my monster and then raises its attack power to equal your attacking monster, then it increases my monster's attack by another 500 points," Saria explained, "And my monster is the Obnoxious Celtic Guardian (1400/1200)!" Saria and Cassidy watched as a red shield with a silver center was placed in Saria's monster's hand. The lightning attack of the Summoned Skull was absorbed into the shield.
"Go my monster! Attack the Summoned Skull with Celtic blade slash attack!" Cassidy could only watch as her monster was slashed into nothing. Her Life Points were now 3500.
"Now for my turn! My trap's primary effect is now over, but it still increases my guardian's attack and defense by 500 points. And it's about to attack you! I play the magic card Mystical Space Typhoon! It'll destroy your trap card!" Saria explained. Cassidy watched as her trap was blown away in a swirl of wind. Saria saw it was Mirror Force that she had destroyed.
"Well Cassidy, you ready to lose life points? Because I summon Four Sword Hero (1000/1000) in attack mode!" Saria declared. Cassidy watched as a blond-haired boy clothed in a green tunic and hat appeared, holding nothing but a golden, aged sword with an eye of Anubis on it.
"Go my monsters! Attack Cassidy directly!" Saria commanded. Saria watched as her monsters reduced Cassidy to 600 life points. Little did she know, was that Yugi was watching from afar.
That Saria kid is good at this. But her opponent still has time to recover. I just hope Saria knows this and doesn't get cocky. Yugi thought. Yami then entered his mind again.
We need to help her, but I would like to see how she holds up against her opponent first. Yami reminded. Yugi nodded and the Millennium Puzzle began to glow and Yugi felt Yami controlling his body.
"Well Cassidy, ready to throw in the towel?" Saria asked.
"Never! I place Big Shield Guardna (100/2600) in defense mode and place two cards face down and then end my turn," Cassidy declared.
"OK, here goes," Saria murmured.
I need to draw a monster that can destroy her Big Shield Guardna. Saria thought. She looked at the card she drew and smiled.
Cool! It's one of the two cards my dad gave me! But I need the other card for it to work. For now I'll just play this... Saria thought.
"For this turn, I'll reveal my face down card, the Four Sword magic card!" Saria declared. Cassidy watched as the Four Sword Hero vanished.
"You just destroyed your own monster, you fool!" Cassidy exclaimed. Saria grinned.
"No I didn't! I cloned it! I created four separate Four Sword Heroes tokens each with an attack and defense of 2000!" Saria explained.
What was the point of doing that? Yami wondered.
She must plan to sacrifice for a stronger card! Yugi realized.
"You finished?" Cassidy asked. Saria nodded.
"It's time for me to put you in your place. I'm activating a face down card. The magic card Polymerization! I'll fuse together my second Summoned Skull and my Red Eyes Black Dragon in order to summon my Black Skull Dragon (3200/2500)! But I'm not done there! I'm also playing Monster Reborn and reviving my first Summoned Skull! I'll then reveal my second face down card Quick Attack, and have both my monsters attack two of your Four Sword Hero tokens!" Cassidy shouted in anger. Saria gasped as a bolt of lightning and balls of fire destroyed two of her monsters and knocked her on her back. The shock of the attacks reduced Saria's life points to a mere 300.
Oh no! Saria's almost out of life points, and she doesn't appear to have any hidden traps on the field. I must make myself known now. Yami decided. He stepped out of the shadows and appeared behind Saria.
"Cassidy! Your cruel stunt has gone on long enough! Surrender now!" Yami commanded, his voice ringing throughout the alley. Both girls faced him. Saria was in awe at this new arrival.
"This duel must end now!" Yami demanded as he walked towards Saria.
"Yugi Moto... I couldn't agree with you more about ending this match, but I have to fight to the end!" Saria finally said. Yugi nodded.
"If that is the case, then believe in yourself and your deck and you can't lose," Yami stated. Saria nodded and turned to face Cassidy.
"Alright Cassidy, it's time for me to win this duel!" Saria stated as she reached for her deck.
Please let this be the card I need to win! Saria prayed. She drew and her look was that of a winner.
"You played a tough duel, but I'm about to end this!" Saria declared.
"With what?" Cassidy wondered.
"With this card from my dad: Master Sword Ritual!" Saria answered. Yugi and Cassidy were shocked.
"I've never heard of that card," Yami said.
"Master Sword Ritual allows me to summon a high powered ritual monster, but first I must sacrifice all the monsters I have on the field! Now come forth, Hero of Time (3200/2700)!" Saria commanded. Yugi watched as Saria's monsters vanished in a ray of rainbow-colored light only to reform as a large sword-bearing monster that was clothed in green. The monster had elven ears, boots and a very toned body.
"Your monster is formidable, but I can destroy it by using my dragon," Cassidy said flatly. Saria gasped.
"Say goodbye! Go Black Skull Dragon! Attack Saria's Hero of Time with molten fireballs!" Cassidy commanded. Yugi could only watch as Saria's monster was engulfed in a flash of flames and smoke. Saria wasn't sad though, because her monster was still standing, its sword held up and glowing white.
"Tough break! Look at your life point counter Cassidy," Saria smirked. Cassidy looked at her life point counter and gasped as her life points dropped to 300. "What's wrong with my life points? I had 600! Explain yourself!" Cassidy shouted.
"When my Hero of Time is summoned, my opponent's life points are reduced by half if they control a Dark-type monster. But it gets better! My Hero of Time also gets an extra 100 attack and defense points for every warrior and magician in my graveyard, raising my Hero's attack power to 3800, which is stronger than the Black Skull Dragon's 3200!" Saria explained.
"But your tokens shouldn't be in the graveyard..." Cassidy pointed out.
"In this tournament, tokens count as monsters and are sent to the graveyard when destroyed," Saria pointed back. Yugi nodded in agreement.
"Maybe you should read your rule book a little more carefully, Cassidy," Yugi grinned. Cassidy growled in anger.
"Go my Hero! Wipe out Cassidy's dragon with sword of evil's bane attack!" Saria commanded. Cassidy screamed as the Hero of Time destroyed her dragon and zapped her with a ray of light, reducing her life points to zero.
"It's over, and I've won!" Saria declared. The holograms vanished and Saria and Yugi walked up to Cassidy, who was on the ground in pain. Saria picked up the remains of Cassidy's deck. She looked at the various cards and took one out.
"I'm taking your Mirror Force card as proof of my victory. You won't need to seek the finals now," Saria said. She put the new card in her deck and removed one in turn. She placed the card she took out in her card case on her belt.
"I'll...get my revenge...Saria..." Cassidy mumbled, "My partner is about... to duel your... friend and... take his deck." Then Cassidy passed out. Saria was in shock at this information.
"Teran... Someone's after Teran? I have to find him!" Saria stated. Yugi and Yami felt her power beginning to increase.
Her powers must have something to do with her emotions. Yami thought.
I agree, but right now, we have to help her friend, Teran. Yugi thought back.
"Saria, was it? I'll have you know that my friend Joey is tracking your friend down," Yami told Saria.
"His name is Teran, and I'm afraid that he may not be able to win a duel. He's an amateur duelist and just recently, we fixed up his deck and we haven't gotten a chance to test it," Saria explained. Yami gasped at this.
"That's not good. I'll tell Joey to approach Teran," Yami replied. Yugi retook control of his body and reached for his watch.
"Joey, come in Joey!" Yugi said.
"Joey here. What's up Yugi? I still got that kid in view. How'd you hold up with the girl?" Joey replied.
"I found her and she's right here. We need you to approach her friend Teran and bring him to out boat. We suspect that he's about to be jumped," Yugi explained. He then heard scuffling noises in the background.
"Uh, Yugi, I'm going to have to call you back," Joey replied.
"Joey! What's going on?"
"I just came face to face with Teran, and we've..." Then there was silence.
"Joey! Joey! Come in Joey!" Yugi called frantically. Saria reached for her duel disk watch, which had reverted to its watch state.
"Teran! Teran! Do you read me? It's Saria! I've got nothing," Saria said. Yugi nodded.
"I got nothing either. Something must be jamming their communicators," Yugi thought.
"We have to find Teran now!" Saria declared. Saria took off with Yugi right behind her.
"Where are we going?" Yugi asked.
"We're going to follow the path Teran was using when we were searching for the gym leader," Saria replied.
"Makes sense," Yugi replied back.
Hang on guys! We're coming to help you! Yugi and Yami thought, I just hope Joey is able to help Teran win the duel.
