Chapter Six: Round Two With Stewart
When Yugi and Saria got back to the top, everyone immediately shot out questions about what had happened. But after they saw Saria, who was near unconscious, they held their questions for the time being. While Yugi brought everyone up-to-date, Serenity was helping Saria, who had enough strength to shower, into bed. Serenity had moved into Saria's boat and Teran had moved into Tristan's boat so that each group had their own chambers to themselves. Serenity was tucking Saria in as the duelist dozed off.
I wonder what went on down there that could've possibly exhausted Saria like this? Yugi showed no such fatigue and Saria was soaking wet when Yugi brought her up. Serenity thought. With one glance at Saria, she left the cabin and went out to the deck and sat down with Tristan and Yugi. Yugi had taken the opportunity to clean up as well.
"Where are Joey and Teran?" Serenity asked.
"They went down to challenge the gym leader," Tristan replied.
"Hey Yugi. I have a question..." Serenity said.
"Is it about Saria?" Yugi asked. Serenity nodded.
"What went on down there? Why did Saria...?" Serenity began.
"Look all wet and her shorts and legs were all sandy? It was the gym leader, Stewart who caused all that. Perhaps I should start from the beginning..."

MEANWHILE, DOWN AT THE ARENA...

"You two ready to duel?" Stewart asked. Teran and Joey had been introduced and the rules had been explained. They were shackled to the platform and duel disks were prepped.
"Let's go!" Joey declared. Teran nodded.
"Then, lets duel!" Stewart declared, "I summon a 7-Colored Fish (1800/800) in attack mode! I'll then place a card face down and end my turn!"
"Good! Now, I summon Panther Warrior (2000/1500) in attack mode!" Joey declared.
"Then, I'll activate the magic card Scapegoat! It summons four special tokens to the field in defense mode," Joey explained, as four new tokens appeared on the field next to Joey.
"I'll then place a card face down, ending my turn..." Joey finished. He had sunk two inches below the sand.
"OK Stewart! It's payback time for hurting Saria! I'll place two cards face down and summon Blindly Loyal Goblin (1800/1500) in attack mode and end my turn!" Teran declared. Teran hesitated as the sand reached the top of his feet.
"OK, I'll play a field magic card known as Legendary Ocean!" Stewart declared. Joey and Teran watched as the field became flooded with a foot of real seawater.
"Now that the stage is set, I can summon my Legendary Fisherman (1850/1600)!" Stewart grinned as he summoned his monster.
"Hey! You need to sacrifice in order to summon a monster that strong!" Teran argued.
"Not with Legendary Ocean in play," Joey told Teran, "That magic card lowers the star power of water monsters in our hands by one star," Teran gasped at this news.
"You mean he can summon five-star water monsters without having to sacrifice?" Teran asked. Joey nodded.
"As long as the Legendary Ocean magic card is in play, we have a lot to worry about," Joey responded.
"You two finished? Since my fisherman has 2050 attack points, who shall I attack?" Stewart asked. He first looked at Joey.
"I could attack you Wheeler, but your trap cards concern me, so..." Stewart said as he turned his gaze to Teran.
"I'll attack your young partner!" Teran gasped but remained calm and determined.
"Fisherman! Attack with harpoon of doom!" Stewart declared. The fisherman quickly made a beeline for Teran.
"Not so fast! Activate trap card: Chasm of Spikes!" Teran declared.
"Oh yeah! Activate counter trap: Seven Tools of the Bandit! Take 1000 of my life points and destroy his trap!" Stewart countered. Teran frowned as his trap and monster was destroyed, reducing his life points to 3750.
Oh man, Teran's making big mistakes by just setting obvious traps like that. If he had other possible cards, he should have set them too. That way, Stewart would get nervous and be unsure of whether to activate his trap. I just hope Teran realizes his mistake and works to prevent another one like it, or we're both done for! Joey thought.
"But if you think I'm done, you're wrong! 7-Colored Fish! Attack Teran's life points directly!" Stewart added. Teran grunted as the fish tackled him, taking 2000 more of his life points.
"That'll end my turn!" Stewart declared.
"Good! Because it's time someone put you in your place! I'll place another card face down, and play the magic card, Kishido Spirit!" Joey declared.
"What does that do?" Stewart declared.
"For a gym leader, you ask a lot of questions. This magic card makes it so that if I attack a monster with a monster of my own with the same attack points, my monster remains unharmed while my opponent's monster is destroyed!" Joey explained. Stewart grimaced at this.
"But first, I'll sacrifice a Scapegoat so my Panther Warrior can attack your 7-Colored Fish!" Joey declared. Stewart frowned as his monster was destroyed.
"That will end my turn..." Joey began. Joey had sunk to below his knees in the sand and the water was up to his waist.
"And start mine!" Teran finished, "I'll place a monster in defense mode face down, and then I'll place two extra cards face down, ending my turn!" Stewart nodded as the water reached above Teran's knees.
"It's almost time... I'm placing three trap cards face down and set a monster face down," Stewart began, "Then I'll send my Fisherman to attack Teran's defensive monster!" Teran didn't quiver as Stewart's monster destroyed a girl sitting on a crystal throne.
"You made a big mistake! You attacked my Princess of Tsurgi (900/700) and when it's flipped face up, my opponent loses 500 life points for every set card he has on the field!" Stewart looked down at his three set cards.
"That means my life points drop to 5500!" Stewart realized, "I'll end my turn."
"OK, it's time to wipe out your Fisherman. And I'll start by using Harpie's Feather Duster! It'll blow away all of your magic and trap cards, destroying your ocean and the water covering us!" Joey declared, "Then, I'll sacrifice my Panther Warrior for my Jinzo (2400/1500)!" Stewart grimaced as the water dried up and Panther Warrior disappeared only to reappear as Jinzo.
"Jinzo! Attack Stewart's Legendary Fisherman with cyber energy shock attack!" Joey commanded. Stewart hunched over in pain as his life points dropped to 4950.
"That'll be all for me!" Joey finished. Joey's platform was out of the sand completely by two inches.
"My move! I'll first play my face down card, Monster Reborn and revive my Blindly Loyal Goblin (1800/1500)! Then, I'll sacrifice it for Curse of Dragon (2000/1500)! Then, I'll equip it with the magic card Big Bang Shot!" Teran began.
"What does that card do?" Stewart asked.
"Glad you asked. It raises my dragon's attack by 400 points and you'll lose life points, even if your monster is in defensive mode!" Teran explained. Stewart gritted his teeth in nervousness.
"Curse of Dragon! Attack Stewart's defensive monster!" Teran commanded. Stewart's eye twitched as his Red Archery Girl (1400/1500) was burnt to a crisp.
"So much for your monster! And because of Big Bang Shot, you lose 900 life points, raising my platform!" Teran pointed out.
Awesome! Stewart's life points are now 4050, just 50 points higher than mine. Teran is starting to get the idea of holding your trump card until the right time. Joey thought.
"That'll end my turn!" Teran said. His platform was now above the sand like Joey's.
"OK, you brats! It's time I took my game up a notch! I play the magic card: Call of the Seas!" Stewart said angrily.
"What's that card do?" Teran asked.
"This rare magic card lets me special summon any or all water monsters in my graveyard. But at a big cost! I must pay life points, in intervals of 100, equal to half the attack power of the monsters I choose to special summon. And now, I shall summon my Legendary Fisherman (1850/1600) and my 7-Colored Fish (1800/800)!" Stewart explained.
"You must be daffy!" Joey pointed out.
"I'm activating my second Legendary Ocean field card!" Joey and Teran grimaced as the seawater recovered the field.
"Now, that my monsters are empowered, I'll take out my aggression on two of your scapegoats, Wheeler!" Stewart declared. Joey watched as two of his sheep tokens were destroyed.
"Next turn, I swear I'll wipe you both out!" Stewart said evilly.
"We'll see about that!" Joey challenged as he drew from his deck, "Jinzo! Attack 7-Colored Fish with cyber energy shockwave!" Joey watched as his monster's sound waves flew towards Stewart's fish. But just as it was about to hit, a tidal wave of water appeared and reflected the attack right back at Joey. Joey recoiled as his life points went down to 3200.
"What gives? My attack didn't work!" Joey asked.
"Oh it worked: It just didn't hit me! My new magic card saved me: The magic card Tidal Shield!" Stewart replied, pointing at a new card that had appeared to his left.
"Hey! How did you play that when your hand was empty?" Teran asked.
"From the last effect of Call of the Sea. If I had Legendary Fisherman on the field, I could take any water based magic card out of my deck and activate it," Stewart replied, "But enough of this! My Tidal Shield card reflects any attack on any water monster right back at my opponent. The difference in the two monster's attack points are doubled then inflicted as life point damage to the attacker."
Not good! That means when we try to attack, we'll lose life points while our attack fails. We need a new plan! Teran thought.
"The only types of monsters that can attack successfully are water- based creatures and monsters with attack points that are 3000 or above! And I doubt either of you have monsters like that!" Stewart taunted.
"Not yet anyway! It's my turn!" Teran declared, "I summon my Dark Blade (1800/1500) and end my turn!" Teran's platform was still above the sand.
"Very well then! I summon my Servant of Catabolism (700/500)! And thanks to its special ability, I can have it attack either of you directly! And I think Teran will make a prime target for my servant!" Stewart stated, "Servant of Catabolism! Attack Teran directly!" Teran grunted as his life points dropped to 1050.
Why do I attract the snails? Teran thought.
"Then, I'll send my Legendary Fisherman to destroy your last sheep token, Wheeler!" Stewart finished. Joey watched as his token was wiped out.
"That'll be all for me! But you have two turns until I wipe you both out!" Stewart stated. Joey frowned at Stewart as he drew.
"I'll pass this turn!" Joey said. The platform didn't quiver.
"OK, I hope this works," Teran prayed as he drew.
"OK Stewart! Time for me to activate my Pot of Greed! It lets me draw two new cards from my deck," Teran explained as he drew from his deck.
"Just what I needed! First, I'll play the magic card, Different Dimension Capsule!" Teran began. The duelists watched as a green coffin- like box appeared in front of Teran.
"This card lets me search for any card that I want in my deck, and place it in this box. Two turns later, I get the card I want unless my opponent destroys my capsule first!" Teran explained, "But my move doesn't end there! I'll also play Swords of Revealing Light!" Teran smirked as Stewart's side of the field became surrounded in white energy swords.
"This magic card prevents you from attacking for three full turns, which is all the time Joey and I need to stop you!" Teran explained. Stewart merely grinned though.
"That may be true, but you can't play anymore magic and trap cards until those two cards wear off!" Stewart laughed.
"It won't matter! Now, I'll summon Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800/1600) and end my turn!" Teran declared. He had taken up a lot of time and was knee-deep in sand and waist high in water.
"I highly doubt that you can comprehend my power," Stewart replied as he drew, "Now, you'll see why! I'm activating another water-based magic card! The magic card, Raging Sea!" As Stewart put the new card in his duel disk, the room became dark and the watery playing field began to get rough, and a storm brewed. As lightning flashed and thunder roared, Stewart explained his new card's abilities.
"This magic card lowers all water monster's attack power by 200 points. But it destroys all monsters with attack points above 2000!" Teran and Joey gasped as Jinzo and Curse of Dragon were electrocuted and destroyed.
"And if that wasn't enough, I can destroy face down cards equal to how many monsters I destroyed!" Stewart added. He gazed at Teran, then Joey.
"OK Wheeler! Say goodbye to your two trap cards!" Joey could only watch as his two-facedown cards were destroyed.
"But this card comes at a high price: I have to end my turn!" Stewart smirked.
"Alright! It's my move!" Joey declared as he looked at his new card and smirked.
"If you thought you were the only one with a Legendary Fisherman, you're wrong! Meet MY Legendary Fisherman (1850/1600)!" Joey declared as he placed the card down on his duel disk. Stewart stared wide-eyed at Joey's monster.
"But I thought I was the only one with a Legendary Fisherman here," Stewart mumbled.
"Doesn't look like it. I won this in Battle City from a sea duelist named Mako Tsunami. He's a real duelist! Not a coward who hides behind his magic cards!" Joey stated. Stewart frowned at this.
"No matter! Since you went to the trouble of weakening your own Fisherman, I could attack it, but I got other plans, like your Servant for example..." Joey said as his gaze was fixed on the Servant of Catabolism.
"Legendary Fisherman! Attack the leader's Servant of Catabolism!" Joey commanded. Stewart screamed in fury as his life points dropped to 600.
"That'll end my turn," Joey declared. His platform was just barely above the water.
"And that'll start mine!" Teran said as he drew, "I'll first activate my trap card, Pyro Clock of Destiny! It fast-forwards the game one turn, making my Different Dimension Capsule open," Teran began.
"Damn! That means you get the card you placed inside!" Stewart realized.
"Good; you remembered! I'll now activate my last face-down card: Black Luster Ritual!" Teran declared. Joey and Stewart looked at Teran in shock.
"Where did you get a card that rare?" Joey asked.
"From Saria: She gave it to me for my birthday last April. And I owe her big time," Teran replied. Joey smiled.
"You wanted to play that card because it's a symbol of your friendship, right?" Joey asked. Teran nodded.
"You catch on," Teran noticed.
"Believe me Teran: I've done the same thing with Yugi. I'll tell you later, after you bring this guy down!" Joey stated. Teran nodded as a door with two swords and two smoking pots appeared behind Teran's monsters.
"Listen carefully Stewart! My two monsters will be sacrificed so that I can open the gate of chaos, where my soldier lies!" Teran explained. Everybody watched as Dark Blade and Gearfried were sucked into the pots. The door then began to glow a rainbow of colors, until it blinded everyone. Teran pointed at Stewart, grim determination on his face.
"Awaken, my warrior! Show me your power! Come forth Black Luster Soldier so that we may defeat this enemy!" Teran shouted as the door opened and Black Luster Soldier (3000/2500) appeared in a blaze of dark energy. Stewart stood in awe at the new monster. It's blue and gold armor, shield and curved blade were a sight to behold, but the gaze of the monster itself was something to fear. Fear was written all over Stewart's face.
"But first, I have to do something about your Legendary Ocean card. And I'll do it with this: My magic card, Spiritualism! This card allows me to remove one magic or trap card from the playing field and put it back in the owner's hand, and I'll choose your Legendary Ocean!" Teran declared. Stewart watched as flying spirits appeared from behind Teran and forced the water back to Stewart's side of the field and the card back into his hand. Teran was now chest high in the sand.
"With my water gone, my Tidal Shield card vanishes too!" Stewart panicked. His shield was gone, leaving him wide open.
"Teran hurry!" Joey urged.
"Time to end this duel! Black Luster Soldier! Attack Stewart with black luster blade attack!" Teran commanded. Stewart braced himself as Black Luster Soldier ran forward and destroyed Legendary Fisherman in a blaze of dark energy. But the remaining energy flew forward and hit Stewart, reducing his life points to zero! Joey and Teran were unshackled and Joey pulled Teran out of the sand.
"Wow... You beat me and my power over the sea..." Stewart said sadly, "I've never seen such teamwork. You stayed calm and beat me fair and square. In proof of your victory over me, take these booster packs and Ocean Medals." Joey and Teran both took one of each.
"Head to Dragon Roost Island next. It's the closest gym from here," Stewart advised as Joey and Teran got in the elevator and left. When they reached the surface, they got into their boat. Teran and Joey showered and went to bed, while Serenity and Tristan piloted the boat to nearby Windfall. After anchoring in the harbor, everyone was in bed, dreaming of the next duel they would face.
