Chapter Ten: Dueling Legend Part 2

"Are you ready? I play the magic card Pot of Greed in order to draw two new cards from my deck," Mia explained as she reached for her deck.

"Not so fast! Reveal Magic Drain!" Teran shouted, showing his trap.

"Not bad," Patrick mumbled.

"Now you must discard a magic card if you want to use Pot of Greed's effect," Teran explained. Mia merely grinned.

"Is that so? Reveal Judgment of Anubis! It'll negate your trap, then let me destroy any monster on your side of the field!" Mia shouted back, "And since your partner's are fighting on your side, I can destroy any of their monsters!"

"Not unless I play Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate Judgment of Anubis!" Teran replies, revealing another trap.

"I can't respond to that, so my magic card is negated and your life points take a plunge by 1000, reducing them to 2600," Mia commented coolly. Teran stared wide-eyed and the team's life point counter as it dropped.

"Now that I know you were bluffing, I can finish this right here and now! I play a second Polymerization, fusing together my Baby Dragon and Time Wizard to create the Thousand Dragon (2400/2000)!" Mia declared. Joey frowned as the old orange dragon appeared on the field.

"I thought you could only summon Thousand Dragon with Time Wizard's effect!" Joey shouted in anger.

"That's true but Joey, you can also summon it with Polymerization as well," Mia explained. Joey made a mental note of that. Mia then looked around in thought.

"But who to attack with my Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon?" Mia wondered aloud. Her gaze settled at Yugi first.

"I could destroy that ugly Beast of Gilfer and make you vulnerable Yugi, but then again, you have two traps on the field," Mia said. She then looked over at Joey.

"I could destroy your Axe Raider Joey, but that's what you set those traps for I'll bet, so..." Mia said her gaze locked onto Teran.

"So that leaves you Teran. With no monsters and only one trap on the field, I can end this duel, so prepare yourself for defeat!" Mia warned. Teran shook in fear.

"Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon! Attack Teran with twin thunderbolt strike!" Mia commanded. The dragons' two heads sucked in electricity and then fired them in two shots.

"Hold it! Activate Magic Arm Shield!" Joey interrupted, his trap revealed.

"With this trap card, I can swipe one of your monsters and use it as a shield to intercept your attack. And I'll take Big Shield Guardna!" Joey explained. A weird looking shield appeared in Axe Raider's hands and it opened up to reveal a tong-like device that gripped Big Shield and Guardna and forced it into the attack. When the smoke cleared, Teran was safe and the monster was destroyed.

"Good move Joey, but next turn I won't miss," Mia swore. Teran grimaced at that comment. He nervously reached towards his deck to draw but his hand quivered over the top card.

Yugi! Let me help Teran! Yami commanded.

No! I can't risk exposing you! Yugi replied.

Teran needs help and I feel only I can help him! Look at him Yugi! Yami urged. Yugi glanced over and saw Teran's scared face and quivering body.

This duel is scaring him! He's afraid to let you and Joey down. If I speak to him, maybe I can make him not afraid! Yami reasoned.

But Joey...Yugi began.

Joey can hear me out later. Right now, Teran needs our help! Yami declared. Finally, Yugi reluctantly nodded and he placed his hands around the Millennium Puzzle.

"Yu-Gi-Oh!" Yugi shouted in his mind. His puzzle glowed brightly as the timid duelist vanished and Yami, the ancient pharaoh of Egypt, appeared a cold, determined look on his face.

"Teran!" Yami called. Teran snapped out of his scared trance and faced Yami.

"Listen, you must not be afraid," Yami advised.

"Afraid? Who's afraid?" Teran asked nervously.

"Don't be ridiculous! All of us can see you're scared to be up here!" Yami demanded. Teran looked down in shame.

"I'm sorry," Teran whispered. Yami smiled.

"Don't worry: As long as Joey and I are here, we'll do everything we can to protect you. But you must work with us as one if we hope to stand a chance of winning this duel. You got that?" Yami asked. Teran nodded, still a little uncertain.

"You may be a rookie, but Joey and I have enough experience to make you a champion. So now, you must believe in us, the heart of the cards, and yourself. Now, draw us a winning card!" Yami urged a confident smile on his face. Teran gave a smart grin and reached for his deck, more confident.

Yugi's right! I must believe in myself, in him and Joey, and in my deck. I don't know what it is about Yugi, but just staring at him gives me strength. Teran thought as he drew the top card of his deck.

"Alright! I'll have Joey reveal his trap!" Teran began. Joey nodded and revealed Graverobber.

"No! Not Graverobber!" Mia gasped.

"Yup! I'll use its effect to take your Cheerful Coffin and activate it!" Teran continued, gripping a lone card in his hand. He threw it in his graveyard.

"But now, it's time to get that card back with Monster Reborn!" Teran finished, playing his new card, "And I'll bring back the monster I sent to the graveyard, my strongest card, the Sword Hunter (2450/1700)!" Everyone watched as a sword-bearing monster with a face-covering mask and battle armor appeared.

"Alright!" Tristan cheered.

"Good work you guys! The stage is set perfectly!" Saria shouted.

"It's time to clear the field of your moldy dragon! Sword Hunter! Attack Thousand Dragon with your steel blades!" Teran commanded. Mia could only watch as Sword Hunter cut her dragon into two and then vanished in a flash of light.

"It looks like I slayed the dragon!" Teran taunted, "but I'm not letting you dragon's power be lost. Since I destroyed a monster with Sword Hunter, a piece of its power is used to power up my monster by 200 points!" Teran proved to be right when the forearm pieces of the monster's armor became covered in dragon scales from Thousand Dragon.

"Don't celebrate for too long! My Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon is still the strongest card on the field!" Mia warned. Teran nodded.

"That's why I'm placing one more card on the field facedown to end my turn!" Teran replied smoothly. Teran then glanced over at Yami Yugi as he drew.

OK, I opened the way partly so I hope you can help Yugi. Teran thought. Yami glanced at his card and studied the field.

Mia has only one card on the field and that's her dragon. She has no other cards facedown and no cards in her hand. I need to draw a card that can destroy her dragon. Yugi thought.

"I'll place one card on the field facedown and summon Kuriboh (300/200) in defense mode!" Yami announced, his little fur ball like creature now on the field.

"Kuriboh? Yugi, I have respect for you as a duelist, but Kuriboh? You're putting me on!" Mia said annoyed as Kuriboh gave off a cute growl and began shaking its left paw rapidly.

"Don't mistake the Kuriboh for a joke!" Yami shouted back in anger then nodded at Joey. Joey took this as his cue to draw.

"For this turn, I'll sacrifice Tiny Guardian and Axe Raider in order to bring out my Insect Queen (2200/2800) in defense mode then I'll add one more card facedown to end my turn!" Joey declared. His two monsters vanished only to reappear as a spider-like monster with a large abdomen and two grasping claws and a feminine face then one more card appeared in front of Joey facedown.

"My move then!" Mia declared as she drew.

Meanwhile, in the northwest corner of the Great Sea, on top of a large stone tower in a seemingly impenetrable fortress...

"Where is he? He's late!" A man in black complained.

"Don't worry, he'll be here," Another replied. The faint sound of chopper rotors filled the midday air. The two men looked up to see a tan chopper with the KaibaCorp symbol hovering above. The two stepped back and grasped their hoods as the chopper landed with a thump. The two then watched as the door slid open and a teen with brown hair and blue eyes jumped down, clutching a silver briefcase in his left hand. He wore a light blue windbreaker and jeans. His shoes were fine black leather and his gaze was cold. Every duelist feared his name: Seto Kaiba. The first man in black stepped forward, clutching a white envelope.

"Did you bring the goods?" The man asked. Kaiba held the briefcase and opened it. Inside the bottom half of the case were rare Duel Monster cards and the top half held cash tied neatly in bundles.

"Half a million dollars and the rare cards, just as you wanted," Kaiba said but as the man reached for the case, Kaiba slammed it shut, "But only if you brought what I wanted in exchange." The man held the envelope out to Kaiba. Kaiba took it and opened it. Inside were two cards, one a magic card the other a ritual monster. Kaiba smiled and handed the briefcase to the second man. Kaiba examined the two cards carefully. He pocketed the cards.

"Thanks," Kaiba said as he walked back to his chopper.

"No, thank you," The man chuckled as the chopper lifted off.

The fool has no idea what he truly has. I bet by the time he finds out, it'll be too late! The man thought. But inside the chopper, Kaiba was studying the new cards intently.

"I can't wait to get back to KaibaCorp to test these," Kaiba murmured as he held the two cards.

"Roland! Take me to KaibaCorp on Windfall. Tell the suits to prepare my Duel Bot," Kaiba commanded.

"Yes sir," Roland replied.

After I check out these cards, I will go for the others and make my deck unbeatable. Kaiba thought excitedly.

Meanwhile, back at Overlook...

"First, I'll play my magic card, Dragon's Treasure Cave!" Mia declared.

"What does that do?" Teran wondered. "Since I have a dragon type monster on the field with attack points higher than 2000, I can roll a die. The number on the die represents how many cards I can draw from my deck," Mia explained. Mia opened a side panel on her podium and pulled out a large green die the size of a grapefruit.
"Go dice roll!" Mia shouted as she hurled her die onto the playing field. Everyone watched anxiously as the die landed on a '5'.
"A five! That means I can draw five new cards from my deck," Mia said excitedly as she drew a new hand, "Now, I'll place one card facedown and play out my Twin-Headed Behemoth (1500/1200) in attack mode!" Mia declared, as her purple dragon with mouths for hands appeared next to her other dragon.
"Go my behemoth! Attack Kuriboh with twin pyro blast!" Mia shouted. Her dragon absorbed energy as Yugi reached for his trap.
"Hold it right there! Activate magic card, Multiply!" Yami shouted as his one Kuriboh became a solid wall of Kuriboh that went into Joey and Teran's fields.
"My magic card multiplies the number of Kuriboh I have until I have a defensive wall, so your attack won't work!" Yami explained as the attack connected and annihilated some of his Kuriboh. But they quickly reappeared in tiny flashes of white light.
"Dang! Oh well! Go my Thunder Dragon! Attack the Sword Hunter with your twin thunderbolt attack!" Mia commanded. Her dragon charged up its attack but not before Teran played his own card.
"Hold it! Reveal Blast with Chain!" Teran shouted, revealing one of his two- facedown cards. Mia growled in anger.
"This trap raises the attack of any monster on the field, and I choose my Sword Hunter!" Teran explained as dynamite wrapped in thick silver chain appeared around Sword Hunter's belt.
"No! Stop Thunder Dragon! Don't attack!" Mia shouted frantically.
"Too late!" Teran shouted defiantly as the dragon fired two thunderbolts at the warrior. They both connected but the Hunter was unaffected.
"Sword Hunter! Counterattack with your explosive blade!" Teran commanded. The monster pulled the dynamite and chain out of his belt and tied it around his sword. He swung it around like a mace and flung the dynamite at the dragon, destroying it in a massive explosion that shook the arena. When the smoke cleared, the dragon was no more and its horns were mounted on Sword Hunter's armor.
"Well Mia! Looks like your dragon is toast and Sword Hunter got 200 more attack points!" Tristan taunted. Mia frowned in anger as her life points dropped.
"I won't lose this! I didn't want to use this, but you leave me with little choice!" Mia shouted, pointing at Teran, "I'll play Polymerization and fuse together my two remaining monsters in my hand, the Millennium Sword and the Millennium Shield to form the Millennium Warrior (3500/3000)!" Mia declared as a new warrior appeared on the field. It stood at Sword Hunter's height but it wore pure gold armor and carried a gold sword and shield. On them both was the eye of Anubis.
"Now to activate his special ability! Time Warp; destroy every monster except yourself at the cost of half of my life points!" Mia finished. The arena got dark as bolts of lightning struck the field and struck every monster including Mia's behemoth. Everyone shielded their eyes as all of the monsters were engulfed in a bright flash of blinding white light and then vanished in one swift thin light beam. Only the facedown cards and Millennium Warrior survived.
"Unbelievable! Her monster can do that?" Mrs. Floyd exclaimed.
"Yes, but at a great cost. Mia just gave up 1800 of her life points. That puts the boys in the lead by 800," Mr. Floyd replied.
"True, but now Mia has the strongest monster again. How can the boys fight back now?" Saria wondered.
"They can do it, I know it," Tristan said confidently. Serenity then abruptly stood up.
"Joey! Yugi! Teran! Don't give up!" She shouted. The boys nodded, but Teran looked doubtful again as he looked at his hand. Man! I was counting on that Sword Hunter to win the match but now it's gone and I already played Monster Reborn so I can't get it back. Teran thought gloomily.
"You're lucky that my monster has to wait one turn before it can attack so make your move, because this will be your last turn!" Mia warned as Teran shook in fear.
