Chapter Twenty: Powers Acknowledged
The waves rose higher and higher as Saria and her friends got closer to Outset Island. Saria and Serenity were holding the bedposts in defense while Joey was bracing himself in the doorway to the bridge. Teran and Yugi weren't so fortunate in finding spots to brace themselves. Teran had situated himself in the reclining chair and Yugi was busy holding the Millennium Puzzle with one hand while he leaned against one wall with his other hand.
"Tristan!" Joey shouted over the roar of the sea. Even thought everything was closed the roar of the storm and seas was extremely loud.
"What?"
"We there yet?" Joey asked.
"Almost! Hold on a little bit longer!" Tristan shouted as he gripped the wheel as tightly as possible, trying to maintain control. The group had left the canal only to run head on into a dangerous sea storm. Fortunately, the waves only aided to push the boat closer to Outset. They would arrive sooner than expected if they were lucky. Another rough wave caused Serenity and Saria to crack heads against one another. Saria and Serenity rubbed their aching heads.
"I sure hope it's soon: Your head is harder than rock!" Saria prayed. Serenity glared at her.
"Your head ain't no pillow either!" Serenity groaned as they hit heads again.
"Relax you guys! I can see shore from here!" Tristan shouted. Everyone could only let out quieted cheers: Some were getting seasick, except Yugi.
"I can't take much more of this!" Yugi groaned. Before he could say more, a large wave hit the boat and Yugi went flying towards the opposite wall. Joey left the safety of the doorway and tackled Yugi. Both flew towards the wall, but only Joey hit the wall.
"Joey! Are you OK?" Serenity shouted, her brown eyes filled with worry. Joey's blond hair was tousled but his brown eyes were still full of pep.
"I'm fine. But did I get Yugi in time?" Joey wondered. Yugi was shaken as he tried to stand.
"I'm OK," he said dazedly. But he quickly slumped back into Joey's arms.
"Yugi! Wake up man!" Joey commanded. But Yugi didn't flinch.
"This is bad! Yugi, you have to wake up!" Saria declared as another rough wave knocked everyone around. But Joey knew they weren't the only ones trying to wake him up.
Yami, please wake up Yugi. Joey prayed. He didn't know it, but Yami was doing that very thing.
"Yugi! Wake up!" Yami shouted. The two were alone in a dark room but a single light shone down on them, giving them all the light they needed. Right now, Yugi was sprawled out on the floor, unconscious. Yami was leaning over him, gently shaking Yugi.
"Come on Yugi! Your friends are worried about you! Get up!" Yami urged. Yami checked Yugi's pulse. It was steady and his heart was also beating. He was just out like a light. Yami stood up and looked ahead, as if staring at something.
I can't sit around and do nothing. It's time to reveal myself to Saria and Teran. I just hope you can understand Yugi. Yami thought as he focused on the Millennium Puzzle around his neck. It was what gave him his telepathic connection to Yugi and what allowed him to use Yugi's body when they dueled together. And right now, it would give out some hope to his friends. He placed his hands around the puzzle and focused. Out in the boat, Yugi's puzzle glowed and everyone stared as Yugi got taller and his face-hardened. For Yugi's old friends, this happened a lot and never surprised them but the experience was new to Saria and Teran. Yugi's body, for now was Yami's, and Yami had full control.
"Yugi? Are you OK?" Saria whispered in awe.
"Yes, a little shaken up, but otherwise fine," Yami replied in his deep voice.
"Your pendant was glowing," Saria noticed. Yami nodded.
"It's hard to keep this secret. I trust what I'm about to tell you will be kept confidential?" Yami asked. Saria and Teran nodded though Teran looked uncertain. The storm had calmed down and everyone could stand up again.
"The truth is, I'm not Yugi Moto. Right now, he is still unconscious," Yami began. Saria and Teran gasped as Yami raised his hands in nervousness.
"He's quite alright. Just out cold from the blow. His mind is inside the pendant, protected from outside forces for now. This gold relic is no ordinary little trinket: It's the Millennium Puzzle, an artifact from ancient Egypt," Yami continued.
"That still doesn't explain who you are," Teran commented.
"I'm actually the spirit of an ancient pharaoh from Egypt 5,000 years ago. I know little about my past and I can't remember much about how my spirit ended up in the puzzle. The only thing I know for sure is that Yugi and I must work together to stop the Shadow Games from wreaking havoc across the planet," Yami responded.
"I don't know much about these Shadow Games, but do you have a name?" Saria asked, stumbling on her question. Yami nodded faintly.
"I don't even remember that so just call me Yami, like everybody else," Yami said.
"Everyone else?" Teran wondered, frowning at this. He then turned to Joey, Tristan and Serenity.
"You guys knew about Yami? And you never even told us?" Teran asked, anger in his voice.
"Teran, I'm really sorry that we kept that secret, but we wanted to protect Yugi from the people who possess the other Millennium Items," Joey apologized. Teran crossed his arms and sniffed in anger. He then stormed outside.
"Saria, are you mad at us too?" Serenity asked. Saria shook her head.
"I can understand why you kept that secret from us. We're strangers to you aren't we?" Saria asked plainly. This question caught everyone off guard.
"Saria, after getting to know Teran and you, we think you two are good people and worthy of knowing such a dangerous secret," Tristan said from the bridge.
"You're not strangers to us," Serenity added.
"And most importantly..." Joey said.
"You're our friends!" Yugi's voice chimed. Though Yami controlled Yugi's body, Yugi stood by his side in a semi-transparent form. Saria nodded, giving them a friendly grin.
"You guys, you aren't the only ones keeping secrets," Saria stated.
"What do you mean?" Joey asked.
"Watch," Saria said as she pulled the Triforce Amulet from underneath her shirt. She grasped it and focused her inner energies into it. Her body glowed gold as one Saria became two. Just like Yugi and Yami, there stood a semi-transparent Saria and the more courageous Saria who wore the heroic garb and a cocky grin.
"So, you have a spirit inside of you too?" Tristan wondered, as he set the controls to auto-pilot. Transparent Saria nodded.
"The Triforce of Courage and the Triforce Amulet have a special connection. When the bearer of Courage empowers the amulet, I am awakened from my slumber to aid Saria in battle," The new Saria replied. This time though, her voice was more masculine.
"What's wrong with your voice?" Serenity asked.
"I'm afraid that I'm not used to a female body yet," Courageous Saria replied. This new Saria got weird looks.
"Perhaps we should change forms so that they can see your real self?" Transparent Saria suggested. Courageous Saria nodded and the two glowed. Saria retook control of her body and changed back to her usual clothes but the transparent Saria changed entirely. The transparent person was now male and he dressed in a green tunic and hat. He wore white stockings underneath his tunic and he wore worn brown boots and a belt fit tightly around his waist. Leather gauntlets protected his hands. But the shocking thing about the spirit was that he had the same blond hair and crystal blue eyes Saria had and that he resembled a certain Duel Monster Saria had in her deck.
"You look a lot like the Hero of Time card in Saria's deck," Joey said bluntly. Serenity elbowed him in the ribs.
"You're right. A portion of my spirit is inside the card. But that card is not the only card with a spirit inside of it. Pay attention to what I'm about to tell you. It's very important and may very well determine the fate of the Great Sea Islands and the world," the spirit warned. Everyone took a seat in miscellaneous spots while Tristan retook up the ship's controls.
"First of all, my name is Link. When I was alive, I was a renowned warrior and hero of countless lands in different dimensions. As my time on the Earth neared its end, I sealed part of my more youthful spirit inside of the Triforce of Courage and the Triforce Amulet. I knew that they would be needed someday. But one day, a man by the name of Maxmillion Pegasus and one of Saria's relatives found the Triforce Amulet and used its magic in combination with a relic from the land you called Egypt to create special Duel Monsters cards that are known as Triforce Destiny Cards," Link began. Yugi and Yami frowned.
"Pegasus? What was he doing creating such cards?" Yami asked.
"Apparently, it was at the request of Saria's grandfather as a reward for the work he did helping Pegasus to create Duel Monsters. When the cards were created, Gordon, Saria's grandpa, empowered the cards with ancient magical energies from the Triforce of Courage and Pegasus' Millennium Eye. What powers those cards now is unknown. All I know is that the cards have the potential to either save the world, or lead to its destruction," Link replied.
"How many cards are there?" Serenity asked.
"Six, and we have three of them now thanks to Saria," Link said, looking at his host.
"Can you show us them?" Joey asked. Link nodded. He and Saria merged spirits and everyone watched as the Hero of Time, Master Sword Ritual and the new card, Call of Destiny Ritual were laid out on the table.
"These are the three we have. There are still three remaining. The Princess of Destiny, Ganondorf the King of Evil and the Evil's Summoning Ritual. If someone of ill heart acquires all six, the world will once again have to face ancient evil powers," Link said grimly.
"Do you have any idea where the remaining cards lie?" Tristan asked, half shouting.
"No I don't. But I can sense the cards. I feel that Ganondorf and his ritual are in someone's deck, but I can't sense who or where. But I have a feeling it won't be too much longer. If someone realizes the full potential of the cards, the world will be in great peril as these cards are full of intense magic power that if combined with the right power source, the results would be catastrophic!" Teran heard everything, but he could care less.
Those lying bastards! They were probably just using us to get easy cards and medals. It's just like before! Teran thought. He sat down on the deck and watched as the clouds cleared away and Outset became visible in the distance.
At least I'll be home soon with the one person I can trust. Teran thought angrily as the boat neared the marina, full of lights and action.
