Chapter Fifty: The Final Battle Part 3
"Tristan, I know you're in there and I'll save you," Ryan stated, drawing a card, "But until then, I've got no choice but to try to beat you! I summon Opticlops (1800/1700) in attack mode and then I'll place two cards facedown." Tristan smiled at the sight of his opponent.
"Well, you think you can beat me? Well, by the duel's end, you'll be begging for mercy!" Tristan declared, drawing a card.
"Tristan! You don't like that! Fight it! Fight the magic possessing you!" Ryan urged.
"I'll summon a monster in defense mode then I'll play the magic card Scapegoat!" Tristan ignored, summoning four sheep tokens, "Then I'll place two cards facedown to end my turn."
"OK, stand back," Ryan warned, drawing a card, "I summon the Marauding Captain (1200/400) to the field and that lets me also summon the Ancient Elf (1450/1200) to the field!" Tristan frowned as the purple-clothed, black hair, long staff bearing elf appeared next to Ryan's soldier.
"Now! Opticlops! Attack Tristan's defensive monster!" Ryan commanded. Tristan smiled as Opticlops charged straight into a large mirror-like wall.
"What the?"
"You activated my trap card, Mirror Wall, which blocks all attacks and any monster that hits it will lose half its attack power so your attack backfired," Tristan explained, Opticlop's attack dropping to 900.
"Oh no! That means I can't attack you!" Ryan realized.
"Right! You can't touch me and now I'll activate my second trap card, Solemn Wishes, which will increase my life points by 500 for every card I draw from here on out," Tristan said, revealing his second trap. Ryan growled as Tristan drew and his life points rose by 500 points.
"Now, I'll play the magic card, Token Thanksgiving!"
"What does that do?" Ryan asked.
"Simple. I destroy all tokens on the field and then I gain 800 life points for each token destroyed," Tristan explained, grinning broadly, his tokens vanishing.
"But that means your life points increase to 7700!" Ryan gasped, Tristan's life points increasing drastically.
"Yeah I know, and now I'll play a magic card called Dark Room of Nightmare!" Tristan declared. Ryan watched as four pillars of stone surrounded him and formed a barrier of dark energy that trapped him.
"What's going on?" Ryan demanded.
"This magic card has a pretty unique effect. Now each time you take damage other than Battle Damage, you'll lose three hundred extra life points!"
"And you probably have a card that makes it so I take damage each turn don't you?"
"You're right! I play my last card, Chain Energy!" Ryan watched as golden binding rings attached to his wrists, ankles and neck. He then watched as golden energy beams fired towards the four column, acting as restraints.
"As long as this card remains on the field, both of us have to pay 500 life points to put cards on the field from our hands!" Tristan explained, humor in his eyes.
Oh no! He's got me pinned! Ryan realized.
MEANWHILE...
"Yugi! You really think you can beat me all by yourself?" Butch taunted, drawing five cards.
"Yeah. You're not so tough! Teran beat you in his first GSIT battle and I'm confident I can defeat you too!" Yugi replied, drawing five cards too. Butch drew one card.
"Yeah, but this time, I'm using a completely different deck so you have no idea what I have in store for you! But enough of this, I play Giant Soldier of Stone (1300/2000) in defense mode then I'll place one card facedown to end my turn," Butch declared, his monster appearing on the field.
"Alright! I play Queen's Knight (1500/1600) in attack mode then I'll place two cards facedown to end my turn!" Yugi replied, summoning his female soldier.
"Ha! That all you got? Well, watch this!" Butch warned, drawing a card, "I sacrifice my Giant Soldier of Stone in order to summon Labyrinth Wall (0/3000) in defense mode!" Yugi gasped as the soldier of stone vanished and reformed into a large wall.
That's the same monster he used to try to hold off Teran during their first duel. Yugi recalled.
"Then I'll play the equip magic card that will spell doom for you, the Heart of Clear Water!" Butch said, flashing his magic card. Yugi watched a golden liquid began to ooze out of the walls and make the wall glow orange.
"Explain yourself!" Yami demanded from the sidelines.
"This magic card allows me to make any monster with attack points less than 1300 become invincible. As long as my magic card remains in play, you can't destroy my wall!" Butch explained.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but I do have a card that can destroy your magic card! Behold my Dust Tornado trap card which has the power to destroy any magic card on the field!" Yugi replied, his trap card activating.
"Well Yugi, sorry to disappoint YOU but I have Seven Tools of the Bandit facedown which activates by paying 1000 life points and allows me to destroy your trap card!" Yugi gasped as Butch's trap destroyed his trap card.
"You dweeb! I knew you'd try to destroy my magic card so I prepared for that with my trap card!" Butch laughed, "And you're supposed to be the King of Games?" Yugi gritted his teeth in anger.
"You're nothing without the spirit of the pharaoh to guide you!" Yugi's face turned crimson.
"Really?" Yugi asked, calming down and drawing a card, "Well just so you know, I'm summoning King's Knight (1600/1400) in attack mode!" Butch gasped as the gold armor-bearing king appeared on the field.
"And when Queen's Knight and King's Knight are on the field, I can also summon Jack's Knight (1900/1000)!" Yugi added, summoning a blue-armored soldier.
"You have three monsters but none of them even come close to penetrating my invincible wall! What are you thinking in that feeble head of yours?" Butch taunted.
"Taunt me all you want but I will win this duel and save Teá!" Yugi said confidently, raising a fist at his opponent.
"Ha! You're in no position to save anyone as I draw!" Butch replied, drawing a card, "I summon Big Shield Guardna (100/2600) in defense mode and place one card facedown to end my turn!"
OK, his wall is invincible and he's got another defensive monster on the field. If only I had one of my Egyptian God Cards, then I can bring his wall down with one blast. Yugi thought hopefully. I just have to believe in the heart of the cards! Yugi closed his eyes as he drew.
Come on! Yami thought hopefully as Yugi glanced at the card he drew.
"Prepare to experience a power like no other as I sacrifice my King's Knight, my Queen's Knight and my Jack's Knight in order to summon Obelisk the Tormentor (4000/4000)!" Yugi shouted, his three monsters vanishing into his card as he held it up. Then in a flash of lightning, a large blue monster appeared behind Yugi, towering over him. Its entire blue body was rippled with muscle and its fists were the size of Yugi and its wings looks like they could decimate buildings. Large red eyes stared down at Butch.
"Behold my Egyptian God Card, Obelisk the Tormentor! And now my mighty Egyptian God monster, attack his Labyrinth Wall with fist of fate!" Yugi commanded, pointing at his target. Butch stood unfazed as Obelisk reared back and smashed his fist into the wall, tearing a good amount of the wall out.
"Your wall is history!" Yugi said.
"Not quite! Look!" Yami replied. Yugi gasped as the wall began to rebuild itself.
"It's reforming but how?" Yugi gasped.
"You idiot! My magic card makes it invincible to attack! You can't destroy it with brute force!" Butch laughed.
He's trapped me! Yugi realized.
MEANWHILE...
"OK, I'll place one card facedown and switch Opticlops to defense mode!" Ryan said, placing his card.
"Oh boy! Since you placed a card on the field, you'll lose 800 life points," Tristan pointed out, Ryan's points going down.
It won't matter in a few moments because my new facedown card will save me. Ryan thought hopefully as Tristan drew.
"First, I gain 500 life points thanks to Solemn Wishes then I'll gain more life points because I play the magic card, Card of Sanctity!" Tristan declared, flashing his magic card.
"Oh man! Card of Sanctity lets us both draw cards until we each have six cards in our hands which means..."
"That's right," Tristan said, drawing six cards, "I'll gain 3000 more life points. Man I love that new tournament rule!" Ryan glowered as he drew three cards himself.
"Now my life points will stand at 11,200 and they'll keep growing thanks to my Solemn Wishes trap card!" Tristan laughed.
"Sorry to disappoint you but I reveal my facedown card, Bad Reaction to Simochi!" Ryan shouted, revealing his facedown card.
"What does that do?" Tristan asked.
"Glad you asked. My trap card turns the effect of gaining life points into damaging your life points instead. Now every time you try to recover your life points, you'll lose life points! And since you just drew six cards and Solemn Wishes is in play, you lose 3000 life points instead of gaining 3000!" Ryan explained, Tristan's life points dropping to 5200.
"Good move, but I got one too. I sacrifice my facedown monster in order to summon a monster in defense mode..."
"Perfect, because I activate my facedown trap card, Bottomless Trap Hole, which will remove the monster you summoned from the game!" Ryan smirked, his facedown trap swallowing Tristan's monster.
"And don't forget! You played a card on the field so you lose 500 life points thanks to Chain Energy!" Ryan added, Tristan's life points falling to 4700.
"At least I still have Mirror Wall in play," Tristan said aloud. Ryan drew a card and gasped.
"Not any more! I first play the magic card DeSpell to destroy your Chain Energy magic card," Ryan declared, losing 800 life points and dispelling the gold rings around him, "Then I play the Remove Trap card to destroy your Mirror Wall!" Tristan gasped as his wall shattered.
"How in the world did you get the cards necessary to destroy my two cards?" Tristan wondered.
"You played Card of Sanctity which allowed me to draw three cards remember? Thanks to you, I was able to shatter your defense and leave you wide open! Now with no monsters on the field and no cards to protect you, I can wipe you out in one sitting as I play the Master Sword Ritual card!" Ryan warned, revealing his last facedown card.
Ryan! You must sacrifice all three of your monsters if you hope to save Tristan. Zelda informed the boy.
Why should I sacrifice three monsters? Ryan asked.
Because there is a Hero of Time with far more power waiting to be summoned and only you can summon it! Zelda replied.
OK, I trust you.
"Watch Tristan as I sacrifice my Opticlops, my Marauding Captain and my Ancient Elf in order to summon a creature whose attack strength knows no bounds! I summon Hero of Time, Envoy of Courage (3200/2700) whose special ability allows it to absorb the attack and defense points of the monsters used to summon it and adds those points to his attack and defense power making its attack strength 6750!" Ryan shouted, sacrificing his three monsters and summoning a glowing white figure. As the light faded, Ryan and Tristan could see a monster with blond hair and cold blue eyes. This monster wore a white tunic and hat, brown pants, gauntlets with silver backing and brown boots. In his hands were Ryan's Master Sword and a large silver shield with red accenting.
"That monster is the Hero of Time, Envoy of Courage? It's unbelievable!" Tristan gasped, marveling at the monster and the white light that made it glow.
"Now Hero of Time, Envoy of Courage, attack Tristan's life points with hurricane sword spin!" Ryan commanded. Both duelists watched as the hero held his sword behind his back and white energy was being drawn to the sword. It then began to spin around, gathering more energy, until the Hero of Time vanished, appearing as a large white hurricane of blazing energy. Tristan gasped in fear as the hero launched the hurricane of power at him, knocking him and his life points flat.
"Tristan, it's over and hopefully the blast has returned you to normal," Ryan sighed to the unconscious Tristan. He then pulled out the Light Arrow he had been given and purged it into the dark orb Tristan had been guarding, shattering it and dispersing the green energy barrier. Ryan then picked up the prone Tristan and left the room.
MEANWHILE...
"I'm untouchable!" Butch boasted, drawing a card, "And now I can make Big Shield Guardna invincible too because I play a second Heart of Clear Water!" Yugi gasped as Big Shield Guardna began to glow the same eerie orange that Labyrinth Wall was.
"Well, I now end my turn and I'll let you try again on destroying my impenetrable defenses," Butch said mockingly. Yugi drew from his deck and looked at his hand.
This doesn't look good. Both of his monsters are invincible and I have nothing that can stop him except my Winged Dragon of Ra but I need to sacrifice three monsters in order to summon it and I just sacrificed for Obelisk. Oh! What should I do? Yugi wondered, closing his eyes in anger.
Yugi, if the strain of this duel is becoming too much for you, then let me help you. Yami offered.
No thanks Yami. I have to do this on my own. I have to prove to myself that I can take on any foe. Yugi replied, staring intently at his Egyptian God Card, Besides, I have an idea on how to get Ra on the field.
"Butch, I reveal my magic card, Card Destruction!" Yugi declared, showing his opponent the card he had.
"Oh no! That means lose we both lose our entire hands and have to place them in the graveyard!" Butch frowned.
"That's correct and then we each draw an entirely new hand," Yugi finished, discarding his hand and drawing new cards as Butch did the same thing only drawing two instead.
"Did you have to give up anything good?" Butch asked.
"No, actually. It's the other way around. I had a card in my hand that could destroy your two defensive monsters but unfortunately I wasn't able to summon it right away but now I can!" Yugi replied staring at his facedown card, "Reveal facedown card, Monster Reborn and I'll use its magic to summon back my second Egyptian God Card, The Winged Dragon of Ra (0/0)!" A golden beam of light fired out from Yugi's graveyard as Yugi's newly acquired dragon took the field next to his first Egyptian God monster.
"Impressive Yugi, but Ra has zero attack points. It's absolutely useless to you!" Butch pointed out. It was then Ra began to spew flames that set fire to its entire body until it took on the form of a large flaming bird.
"Not if I make it go into its 'Phoenix Mode'! In this mode, Ra can't be destroyed but it can destroy all of your monsters in one swoop! So go my Winged Dragon! Set fire to his two defense monsters and clear them from the field!" Yugi shouted, pointing at Butch. Butch stood unfazed as the dragon rushed forward, intent on setting the enemy side ablaze.
"Hold it! I reveal Mirror Force which will destroy both of your so-called Egyptian God Cards!" Butch warned, playing a trap.
"Sorry Butch but Ra is completely unstoppable in this form. It can shatter your Mirror Force card and destroy your monsters!" Yugi reiterated. Butch gasped as the energy wall that had formed from Mirror Force shattered and Ra set fire to both of his monsters, crushing them in raging flames. But Ra wasn't done yet as Butch was engulfed in a tornado of raging flames, making him cry out in pain. When the attack ended, Butch was on hands and knees, smoke simmering off of his black robe.
"Now Obelisk the Tormentor! Destroy Butch's remaining life points with fist of fate!" Yugi finished, pointing at his opponent. Butch staggered to his feet in time to see Obelisk's massive glowing fist rushing to meet him. The attack sent Butch flying as he crashed into the crystal that held Teá captive, shattering it, setting her free. Butch then landed on the ground in too much pain to move. Yugi stepped forward and watched the life point counter on Butch's duel disk drop to zero. He then turned to the unconscious Teá and the black orb. Yugi kneeled at her side.
"Teá! Please wake up Teá!" Yugi begged shaking her gently. He let out a sigh of relief as she began to groan and her blue eyes slowly opened.
"Yugi? Is that you?" Teá asked weakly.
"It is. Are you OK?"
"I'm OK now thanks to you," She smiled softly. She then noticed Yugi's new look, "Merged spirits huh?" Yugi nodded his head.
"Yeah," Yugi replied, his voice stuttering slightly at the presence of his friend.
"Yugi... I..." But it was then she groaned in pain. She clutched her head in agony.
"Teá? Are you alright?" Yugi asked.
"I don't know why... But I feel terrible, like something's... hurting me from the inside..." Teá groaned, screaming in agony.
"It hurts doesn't it? Well, it should considering I couldn't control your mind," Came Kaiba's taunting voice. Yugi stood up, eyes alert.
"Kaiba! What have you done to Teá?" Yugi demanded.
"Oh, you mean your friend the Sage? Well it looks like someone is having a problem with their heart," Came Kaiba's taunting response.
"Enough of these head games you coward! Answer me!" Yugi shouted.
"Oh it's a simple spell. Her powers as a Sage made it so I couldn't control her mind but I decided to let her die in front of your eyes." Yugi gasped, turning back to the weakening Teá. Yugi kneeled at her side and grasped her in a hug.
"Please Teá! Fight it off! Don't die on me! I love you too much to let you go!" Yugi admitted, tears in his eyes. Teá looked at him weakly.
"I know. I love you too Yugi. I don't want to..." Teá gasped, her face turning paler by the second. In their last moments, Yami gasped as Yugi kissed Teá deeply. It was then Yugi's Millennium Puzzle and something inside of Teá's dress began to glow. Yami shielded his eyes as the two continued their kiss, the two being enveloped in golden light. It seemed like minutes but when the light faded, Teá had a new circular golden medallion around her neck and her skin tone had reverted back to normal.
"What in the world just happened?" Yami asked the two. The two turned to the spirit.
"It's quite simple. The love we share broke the spell Kaiba had over Teá," Yugi replied.
"And that's not all, it awakened the powers of the Sage of Light that flow within me," Teá added, gesturing to the medallion around her neck.
"Sage of Light? Of course! Commander Matson had said there were ten Sages but when we went to rescue Saria, we only had nine with us. I wondered about that," Yami replied. The three then turned to the black orb.
"Well, we can figure all this out when we get back to the others. But first, we have a job to do," Yugi said, drawing out the Light Arrow he had been given. Teá and Yami watched as Yugi used the arrow to impale the black orb shattering it and the yellow barrier. He then turned and walked back down to Butch's prone body and searched his deck. Teá and Yami watched as he pulled out a Fiend's Sanctuary magic card.
"This card helped us out the last time we saved the world so I don't think Butch will mind if we take it," Yugi recalled. His two friends nodded.
"Now, lets go back to the main hall and see if Saria, Ryan and Ashley had any luck in finding the others," Yami suggested. The two friends nodded and with Teá's arm linked through his own, Yugi and Yami led the girl out of the room, intending to meet the others.
