Introduction

My name is John Gilbert, but you have never heard my name, you have never seen my face, you have never heard my story.

When I was a young boy of nine, when my innocence still lived on, my mother used to say she was "Dangling in Darkness". I never understood this until the end of my 6th year at Hogwarts...it was five years after the fall of Voldemort...and it was the day that I died, at least I died on the inside.

A part of me still likes numbers. Numbers are always literal, and numbers are always reliable. You can't be politically correct with numbers, and you can't think up any abstract meaning to them. The way it is, is the way it is. One plus one will always be two, it won't change no matter how much society does.

But I am a victim of numbers. Because, the numbers say I killed many people. None of them died from what I did, but from what I did not do. I was very smart, but I was a coward. I guess cowardliness is often found in the Slytherin gene pole, but I will not blame my actions on genetics.

I was sixteen when eleven other Slytherins and I heard the prophecy, each in our own way, and in our own time. It was that year when we had to choose, because we were dangling over darkness. We all had are reasons to join up when a new Dark Lord was about to take power, but we all had reasons not to join. Surprisingly, we all had a conscience; it's just that not all of s listened to it.

Some of us went the easy route and turned evil, and some of us died. And some of us choose the good side, and some of us died. And some of us lived.

We were all victims. We were victims of fate, and we were all victims of someone else's mistakes. We were like shoppers who had to pay for something we didn't even buy; only the price was far greater than a few pieces of gold.

I tell you this story in the hopes that you may not make the same mistakes I did, The story took place long ago, but I renumber it like it was yesterday...
