Him.
It was that guy. The one everyone pushed into lockers.
The one she'd kissed.
Dead. That guy was dead. Rick? Rick was dead.
She didn't know him. She didn't really know anyone.
But she'd kissed him. And the way he'd smiled... she'd never made anyone smile. Not like that. For a second, she'd wanted to go back. Kiss him again. Maybe on the lips, if she was brave enough. Because she wanted to see that smile forever.
But she hadn't. She'd watched him, though. Watched him get beat up, watched him get pushed into more lockers.
Watched him get splattered with paint and feathers on camera. She'd wanted to help him then, but he'd disappeared before she could reach him.
She'd been battling with going up to him all day. She wanted to say something, but she didn't know what. She wanted to hold his hand and she didn't know why. She wanted to hurt everyone for laughing.
But she hadn't, and now...
Now he's dead.
She remembers the feel of his cheek beneath her lips. Soft and warm and boy and different. Exhilarating. Terrifying.
She wants it back; wants him back. Even if he brought a gun to school and shot that guy, she still wants him back. Because someone has to miss him.
Someone has to cry for him.
So she does. And people; older people she's never seen before give her fake smiles, thinking she's scared.
If only she were. She's just sad. Sad for the boy no one loved, sad for the boy who never got a kiss from anyone but her.
But no one knows that. No one knows her. She hopes Rick's watching her, wherever he is.
"I miss you," she mouths as she passes where she thinks his locker is β was. "I miss you."
"I miss you too, Darcy," she pretends to hear.
And in her mind, she's kissing him. On the mouth, this time.
End
Author's Notes: I really enjoyed the little of Darcy we've seen so far, especially her scene with Rick in Islands in the Stream. I couldn't really see these two getting together, but I wanted to get into Darcy's head. Any comments would be appreciated.
