Down the Road, Your Nightmare Awaits You
CHAPTER ONE
Lucy smiled into the soft, swift night. Her nightgown flowed in the wind. Although Lucy had no reason to smile, she did. But why? Lucy was a girl of fifteen, with blonde hair and blue eyes, so why would she smile with nothing to smile about?
Down the road, your nightmare awaits you.
"No!" Lucy cried, forcing herself into her bedroom.
Lucy, down the road, your nightmare awaits you. You know it does.
What nightmare? Lucy wondered. I never have nightmares. Never.
Oh, yes you do, Lucy.
No, I don't. Get away from me. You may think that you are my body, my mind, my life. But you, Spirit, will never control me.
Ha. Lucy, you know nothing of me. Nothing, so therefore, you are powerless.
Down the road, your nightmare awaits you.
"But where?" Lucy cried. "Come on and give me a break! Where down the road?"
The Spirit was silent; it would not tell its secret. With a groan, Lucy flung herself onto her bed. For nights this has been going on, thought Lucy. For crying out loud, that voice in my head has been cruel.
Come, Lucy, and let me take you where your nightmare begins.
"No! No! No! No! No!" Lucy hopped up and screamed, "What are you talking about?"
Laughter filled her bedroom. It sounded like a nail scratching wood. Lucy looked around her room. You'll never get through me, she vowed. Never.
