Five years had passed. It was amazing how much could change in five years. Kiba leaned back in his chair and sighed contentedly, looking over at Hinata and grinning. Hinata looked back at him and gave him a shy smile. They certainly made an odd couple, didn't they? Kiba, always so loud and obnoxious. Hinata, so shy and meek. But somehow, they had managed to make it work.
"So Hinata, what'll it be?"
Hinata looked down at the lunch menu for the Ichiraku Ramen Stand. She just merely pointed at an item in the folder.
Man, why didn't she talk? It was very frustrating for Kiba. He didn't know what she was thinking. And it's not like he could read her eyes or anything. Beautiful as they were, he couldn't see any expressions in them, so he just went on the tone of her voice to figure out her emotions. But she didn't talk very much, so it complicated things a lot.
"You got it, Hinata!"
He grinned again. December 26th. Her birthday was tomorrow. He would give her the present tonight. He had purposely left Akamaru at home. This gift was far too important to afford any distractions. He reached into his pocket for about the fiftieth time that night, just to be sure that the ring was still there. He was eighteen. Tomorrow, she would be too. They had been dating for nearly five years now. He figured it was about time. And what better time than on her birthday?
Hinata noticed Kiba reaching into his pocket. She was seriously resisting the urge to use her Byakugan. Although she wouldn't let him know it, she was extremely excited. Tomorrow was her birthday! He said that he was going to get her something special, something better than he had ever given her. What could that something be? She wasn't sure, but she was positive that she would love him even more for it. Of course, it had to be in his pocket. That was why he was so cautions when they got close, and why he kept checking up on it- whatever it was. But she would find out soon enough, she guessed, so she just smiled at Kiba and took his hand.
When their food arrived, Kiba's miso ramen and Hinata's pork ramen, they both noticed that neither one of them was eating much. They were just sort of stirring it around and slipping the random noodle into their mouths. When Kiba was sure that Hinata wasn't going to eat much more, he checked his watch. 9:30.
Eh, close enough to midnight.
"Hey, Hinata. Want to go for a walk?"
A small smile teased at her features.
"O- okay..."
It was going perfectly. He checked his pocket once more, just to be sure that the engagement ring was still there. He grinned. Love was great.
