DISCLAIMER: I do not own the Teen Titans. If I did, Terra would be alive and Slade would come back and...anyway...please read. See if you can guess whose POV this is...
Across the Waters
He had never thought Terra would have the willpower to overcome the suit. When he had known her, she had been just a spindly, self-conscious girl without any hope or gumption at all. She had changed.
He had escaped. Right before the volcano had erupted, right before, he had escaped through his secret tunnel. He threw his mask inside. If they found it, they'd be sure he was dead.
That's how it should be. It would only create complications if Robin and Terra tried to stop him from finding Aqua. She would be the hardest of all to find. He had not seen her since her birth eighteen years ago.
He had taken temporary residence on a little island in Jump City's harbor. Here he could plan and search. He could contemplate every move and everything he'd say to her once he found her. He'd find a way to make her work for him. Just like he'd done the others. But they had escaped. Because to them, he was just an enemy, or just a friend, or just a father. To Aqua, he would be nothing at all. She'd stay more willingly. Maybe he could train her in the HIVE first, so she wouldn't get any doubts. Then he would destroy everything Robin held dear. With nothing to care for, Slade had found, it was much easier to focus on your fate.
He found her. He traced his own photo of her at a couple of days old, to another photo taken a week later. It was registered as a couple named Carson and Carolyn Drew. They hadn't named her before she went to the agency. According to this, her name was Nancy.
Later, when Rachael had been expecting twins, she had named her Aqua. It all came back to her, she had said. That day she was born, the day of the tropical storm. The day after, when she wouldn't go to bed, and the typhoon. The day of the adoption, the fit of rage, and the flooding. Something magical was about with their first born. Aqua was the only suitable name.
Then had come the twins. Again Rachael waited to see their characteristics before she named them. She played with them and noted each time they squalled. The girl's name became evident when she repeatedly threw tantrums and each time, at the exact same moment, earthquakes and mudslides. Terra. Her name was Terra.
The boy, when he grew angry, there were tornadoes. Wildfires. Both wind and fire. Wind, like a bird flies and fire for the vivid red. His name would be Robin.
Slade would admit it, he had always favored Robin more. The way he was raised, the boys got it all. So naturally, it would be Robin that inherited the house. He had spoiled him more than Terra. But Rachael gave them both equal attention. She had been...wonderful.
There was always the strange question. What was it about the children that their anger triggered strange things? Was it all sheer coincidence, pure fate? Or was their something else?
When Terra was 6 months old, she threw a huge tantrum. Huge. And in the Midwest, there was a giant earthquake, nearly a 7 on the Richter scale. One woman even died. That's when they knew. Something about all their kids, Aqua, Terra, and Robin was special. They had strange elemental powers. No one knew what caused it, but there it was. It was the family secret. The family mystery. Family.
