The air around me was icy cold. I had left that warm, dark place
and emerged into the cold, menacing world. The brightness was beginning to overcome me.
I blinked twice and snuggled up to the sandy-brown lumps of warmth that were my siblings and fell into a deep slumber.
In my dreams I envisioned shadows, sleek, foxlike shadows. They raced across the land, rings glowing and golden.
Except one.
The next morning I awoke to the ringing voice of an Altaria singing out its heart for a very special couple of Vaporeon. I crawled out of the den in pursuit of the majestic melody echoing through a thick cloud of tropical mists. The light was blocked out by a blanket weaved with vines that seemed to dance with great agility and precision. The ground was covered with roots and leaf litter. The forest was woven into a blanket of emerald. I stumbled up to the two vaporeon and looked up and them smiling. My brothers and sisters were there too. They all looked at me strangely. I looked at myself and found a coat of shaggy, satin fur and glaring ice-blue rings. Suddenly a loud bang rumbled through the forest. The Altaria stopped singing and dashed away, a look of terror on its face. My mother grabbed me by my scruff and carried me away. My younger sisters were carried on my father's back and the older one raced alongside mother and me. Another bang. Loud footsteps crushed the brittle leaves that carpeted the forest floor. Father stood and fought the hunter for as long as he could, but with another ear shattering explosion and a shower of blood father sunk to the ground, bleeding madly. "NO! Father!"
My eyes overflowed in tears. But I had barely time for grief as the ear- splitting bang filled the air once more and we dashed away, forced to leave our beautiful sanctuary.
