This is a fan fiction that a friend (you know who you are) made me write while she ate dinner. Thanks to Allie for editing. This is a standalone. But you never know...reviews make things happen. Here we go.
The bright red substance covered the floor. She had slipped and fallen into it staining her already stained scrubs. He laughed.
"I bet you think this is funny?" He didn't say anything, and just continued to laugh.
"For your information I had a pretty bad day at work today." He looked at her, his eyes wide, she went on,
"There was an MVA drunk driver verses soccer mom mini van; everyone died, the drunk was just a little hung over. Weaver was on a rampage, I didn't get a break all day, and I nearly killed a patient. Had I gotten a break maybe I wouldn't have been so dizzy all day." His eyes questioned her and begged her to continue.
"It was nothing really, I didn't have breakfast this morning and I didn't have lunch." She felt guilty looking at him.
"Yes, I know I should have had lunch, but honestly, I just didn't have time, and if I want to get Chief Resident before I die, then I'm going to have to start moving." She stood up to put their bowls in the sink. "Yea, I want to be Chief Resident. Weaver probably thinks that's impossible. But I have been working in the hospital for a pretty long time... medical student, nurse, student, nurse, student and now a doctor." His eyes sparkled with pride. He smiled, and so did she.
"I'm proud of myself too, I worked for it. It took a while, but I did it." She poured herself a cup of coffee and put his cup in front of him. He took a sip and she continued.
"You know, I didn't think I would get married again. But I learned to love again, how to be loved, that I shouldn't be scared to be with the man I love, that if I just believe, dreams really do come true. And here you are, living proof of that." She leaned over to kiss him on the cheek, "And I love you very much. It's hard to believe that I can love someone as much as I love you." She kissed him again. "I love you." It was then that he chose to speak,
"Love you too mommy"
She smiled, a big wide grin.
"I love you too Jakie."
And she bent down to wipe up the ketchup.
