Chapter Five: Is She Really Human?
Last Chapter:
"Tell that to her. Ask her what happened in her room just now." Said Kagome loudly.
"Rin, what happened?" asked Sota rushing up to her. She winced when he put a hand on her shoulder. He took it off.
"Rin...what happened?" repeated Sesshomaru.
"I...he...my fault..." Rin stuttered hiding behind Kagome.
"Rin answer me now!" barked Sesshomaru. She rushed forward in the tee shirt, jeans and sneakers that Sango and Kagome had dressed her in. She bowed at the waist, clasping her hands together.
"I'm so sorry Lord Sesshomaru! It's my entire fault! The servants said I was too pretty and they were right! Keiichi came in my room today and ...and..." sobbed Rin. "He nearly mated me but he left! I'm so sorry!"
The Story Continues...
There was a stunned silence that was only broken by Rin's sobs. Sesshomaru stared at her with a disgusted and shocked look and it was Keiichi who spoke first and he addressed Sota.
"Get away from her human! She does not deserve the likes of you!"
"Shove it up your ass." Replied Sota. "She doesn't deserve to be tortured by YOU!"
"Shigure...what in the gods name have you done to my daughter!" yelled Sesshomaru, turning to his ally.
"Still your tongue friend. I have sent a spy of mine to watch your little daughter for some time. The thing she wants most is a child and a husband. That seemed the perfect way to merge our lands and become stronger. I had good intentions."
"So you let your son rape my daughter!" shouted Sesshomaru angrily. "You are no friend of mine to do such a thing!"
"And you are no father to confine her from the world." Snapped Lord Shigure. "I granted her what she wanted most. That is my wedding gift to her."
"I don't care what your intentions were, good or bad, but I swear if that boy lays one more hand on Rin, he shall die." Said Sesshomaru, his eyes tingeing red and his claws glowing green. But it seemed while they weren't pay attention Keiichi had slipped behind Rin and grabbed her chest from behind and she shrieked. Before Sesshomaru or anyone else could do anything, a large blast of white blue light shot into Keiichi sending him into the wall.
He cracked the stone and it crumbled on him. Bursting up through it, his eyes landed on Sota. He was standing with a palm facing Keiichi, his arm extended. He was breathing heavily and an aura around him made his messy black hair shift from his own powerful wind.
"You bastard human. To think you can take her from me!" Keiichi shouted, putting a hand behind his head. He brought it to the front and his fingers pointed at Sota. As it connected a large smoke was created and when it cleared, Sota was unscratched, his force field remaining firm.
"LISTEN TO ME DEMON! I AM TAKING HER FROM NO ONE! I DON'T WANT HER, BUT I WON'T LET YOU HURT ANY INNOCENT PEOPE!" shouted Sota, sending another blast at Keiichi.
Rin gasped as it hit him and it seemed to reflect in her eyes. Sota didn't want her...he never would...he loved Kasumi...he didn't like the kiss...he...As the smoke cleared once more, Keiichi had been blown out the window and done on the grounds below. Sota was breathing heavily and turned to look at the group.
He caught sight of Rin, her eyes wide, her black hair hanging loose down her back and over her shoulders and her hands where over her mouth. Tears were pouring down her face Realization dawned on him and his mouth dropped open.
"Oh Rin...I'm so sorry...Rin I..."
"N-no it's okay. You have Kasumi. W-why would you want me? I mean, look at where my beauty has gotten me. Father, where is Kekki?"
"That I can answer." Said Lord Shigure. "She stepped in my son's way and he had to dispose of her."
Rin gasped again and she felt her knees grow weak. She buckled and fell to the floor. "No one...ever...lonely...hates me," she muttered before her eyes became dark and the rest of her body went forward.
~*~
Rin opened her eyes to darkness and felt something soft covering her. She sat up and her head swam. Laying back down she groaned. A door creaked open and a bright light came on. Rin covered her eyes and they quickly adjusted.
"Hey, you feeling better?"
Rin gave Sota no reply. She stared up at the ceiling then shot up. There were so many things the room she didn't recognize or even know what they were. She screamed and Sota plugged his ears. When she was done she hopped out of the bed wearing a set of Sota's pajamas.
"Oh my, what's going on up here?" said a middle-aged woman coming into the room. "Oh good, you're awake! We were starting to get worried!"
"W-who are you?"
"Oh, you wouldn't know that's right. I'm Mrs. Hirugashi. Kagome and Sota's mother." She said. "Would you like something to eat?"
"Where am I?" asked Rin. "And what am I wearing?"
"You're at my house. On the other side of the well." Said Sota. "Didn't Kagome tell you?"
"Yes." Said Rin. "She said that it used magic to get from my time to yours."
"Come on downstairs Rin. I bet you're very hungry."
"N-not really. I just need to be alone for a bit." Said Rin. She tried to force a smile but she couldn't. It was understandable after what she went through.
Mrs. Hirugashi and Sota went down the stairs just as the doorbell rang. Sota went to answer it and a girl latched onto him, knocking him over.
"Kasumi!" he gasped, his lungs short of air. "What are you doing here!"
"Well, you said you couldn't show me what you wanted to last week, so I came by this week!" giggled Kasumi.
"I can't really show you."
"Why not?" she accused. "Did something happen? Can I help?"
"No." said Sota. Seeing his girlfriend's fallen face he sighed and continued. "Look a friend of mine just went through something really bad and I think she wants to be left alone for a bit."
"Oooh, is that her?" said Kasumi. Sota titled his head back to see Rin standing at the top of the stairs, flushing.
"You hungry now Rin?" asked Sota. "Kasumi, get off already."
"Don't be such a poop Sota." Said Kasumi getting off him. She took off her shoes and placed them by the door, which she shut and slipped on a pair of slippers. Rin came down the stairs, her dark hair swaying as she walked down. Her eyes stayed down in sorrow.
"The kitchen is in there. 'Gome said you've never been here before but let me tell you right now that nothing in the house is going to hurt you no matter how strange okay?"
Rin nodded and went through the doorway. Kasumi stared at Sota with large eyes. "What was that all about?" she asked. "What did you mean?" Sota couldn't reply because Rin shrieked and something crashed onto the kitchen floor. Both Sota and Kasumi rushed in. Rin stood against the wall, looking at the small TV that was kept in the kitchen with pure horror in her eyes.
The TV had been smashed and glass scattered the floor. Mrs. Hirugashi fetched the broom and said to Sota:
"I should've known that would have scared her. Rin I'm sorry are you all right?"
Rin didn't reply but slumped down onto the floor. Sota walked over to her and reached out to help her up but she slapped his hand away and quivered.
"Rin, I'm not going to hurt you like Keiichi did." He said annoyed. She winced at his name and tried to scoot away from Sota. He caught her arm and pulled her up. She yanked it away and ran out of the kitchen and back up the stairs. He heard the door slam.
"Well, at least she knows how to use that." He said.
"My Sota, your friend is really weird. What happened to her?" asked Kasumi, tilting her head.
"I'm not telling." Said Sota. "She wouldn't want me talking about it."
"How do you know? She hasn't said anything. Look, just tell me and I'll go cheer her up. I can't not cheer someone up." Said Kasumi brightly.
"Kasumi, really I wouldn't. She might be scared of you."
"Why on earth would she be scared of another human being?"
"Because she's very different from a lot of people around here. VERY different."
"Is she foreign?"
"Sort of." Said Sota. "Just leave her alone."
"Sota, you know me better than that." Said Kasumi, gabbing him with one finger. "She'll be my new cause!"
"Kasumi..."
"Don't try to talk me out of it! I've made up my mind!" said Kasumi, walking up the stairs. She knocked on the door that Rin went through, the room that used to be Kagome's.
"Hello? Can I come in?" asked Kasumi. Rin cracked open the door and peered at Kasumi with one eyes. Finally, the door opened just enough for Kasumi to squeeze through. Rin sat on the bed facing the window, and Kasumi sat in the swirl chair.
"I came up to help. Is there anything you need?"
Rin shook her head.
"Those are Sota's PJs, don't you have any of your own?"
Rin shook her head.
"Well, that's the first thing we have to do. We're going to the mall." Said Kasumi, taking Rin's hand. She bit her lip in pain. "Oh. What happened to your wrists?"
Rin didn't answer.
Kasumi led her downstairs and barked at Sota, "Get in the car. We're going shopping."
Grumbling Sota followed as Kasumi led Rin to the car. She stepped back and bumped into Sota. She jumped away from him and glared. He shivered. He did have to help her buckle herself in though and Kasumi turned on the radio. Rin covered here ears and Sota told Kasumi to turn it off. She didn't and she started the car. Rin jumped, looking around to see where the horses where.
The car speed off and Rin shut her eyes tightly. She felt someone take her hand and was too terrified to take it away from Sota. When Kasumi parked the car, Rin struggled out of her seat and practically jumped out of the car.
"Rin, calm down. It's like a market only it's indoors." Said Sota. Kasumi grabbed Rin's hand and dragged her in. She took Rin right into a clothing store and took as much off the rack as she could carry in BOTH arms. Sota waited while they did this and after two hours, Kasumi dragged them into the food court.
While Kasumi got their food, Rin sat in her new short-sleeved shirt with a single pink angel wing on a white background. She wore a pair of pink kakis and white sneakers with pink socks. She sat staring down at the cream colored table her black hair did in two ponytails at the back of her neck. Sota tried to think of everything but her. The old couple sitting near them, his grandfather who passed away a few years ago, and the first time he met Kasumi. But his thoughts wandered back to her and he glanced at her. She was staring at him with her large brown eyes.
"I don't like her." Said Rin softly.
"How come?"
"She's too happy."
"Why is that bad?"
"Happy people are annoying."
"Hey Rin, have you ever been to a movie?"
"Is it like the little people in the box?"
"Yah, sort of. It's on a bigger screen though. Do you want to go?" asked Sota. Kasumi returned with their food and said happily:
"So, she's finally talking huh?"
"She said you were too happy," chuckled Sota. "Oh?" Kasumi laughed. "You're funny Sota."
"How about we go see a movie Kasumi? Rin says she's up too it. Nothing too gory though okay?"
"That's no fun." Pouted Kasumi. Sota usually fell head over heels for her pout, but it was nothing compared to Rin's. Sota grumbled and said:
"Look Kasumi, what did I tell you? Rin went through a rough time and you're making it worse! Just let me take her to the movie!"
"Well I don't want to see one!" snapped Kasumi. "And I'm your ride home so let's go elsewhere or you can walk home! No movie!"
"Fine!" said Sota angrily. "Rin, get up. We're going home. Get your stuff."
Rin stood and took some of the bags that Kasumi had gotten and where filled with clothes. She didn't look at the other girl, but she was almost positive that it was rare that Kasumi and Sota ever fought about anything.
