Chapter Six: He's Not There, He's Here

Last Chapter:

"That's no fun." Pouted Kasumi. Sota usually fell head over heels for her pout, but it was nothing compared to Rin's. Sota grumbled and said:

"Look Kasumi, what did I tell you? Rin went through a rough time and you're making it worse! Just let me take her to the movie!"

"Well I don't want to see one!" snapped Kasumi. "And I'm your ride home so let's go elsewhere or you can walk home! No movie!"

"Fine!" said Sota angrily. "Rin, get up. We're going home. Get your stuff."

Rin stood and took some of the bags that Kasumi had gotten and where filled with clothes. She didn't look at the other girl, but she was almost positive that it was rare that Kasumi and Sota ever fought about anything.

The Story Continues...

Sota and Rin waited by the door of the mall watching the cars go by. Rin shifted her weight from foot to foot as Sota kept his eyes peeled for his mom's car. She sniffled and tried to suppress a sneeze. She wasn't able to and Sota glanced at her as she sniffled again.

"You okay?" he asked, turning his attention back to the street.

"Uh huh." Answered Rin. There was an uneasy silence.

'I never fight with Kasumi. I've never gotten mad at her either. She should have just let me taken Rin. It wasn't going to hurt her I mean; I've never seen Kasumi act that way before. I wonder if she's...'

"I'm sorry." Said Rin, interrupting his thoughts.

"Huh, wha-?"

"I'm no good to anyone," said Rin, looking at her feet. The sneakers felt constricting. "I made Lord Sesshomaru kill some of his friends, I destroyed an alliance, and I made your mate dislike you."

"Whoa, whoa!" said Sota. "Mate? Where did you get the idea that Kasumi was my mate? And do you have to make it sound so nasty?"

"What?"

Sota sighed and slumped down onto the bench next to her. He ran a hand through his already tussled hair and said, "Rin, things don't work that way here. Kasumi's my girlfriend. It's like...oh how did Kagome put it...it's like courting."

"Is that what it is then?" said Rin. "Oh. Well, I still made her mad at you." She sneezed again and Sota opened one of the bags. It was a black down feather coat with white cuffs that Kasumi had bought and he gave it to her. Rin put it on and snuggled into it. She sneezed again.

"You must have a cold. There's mom. We can get you some medicine at the house." Said Sota, picking up most of the bags. Rin nodded and followed him out to the car. Sota piled the shopping bags in the back and put some in the front seat. He sat next to Rin who sneezed again and her eyes drooped. She yawned and leaned against Sota, not really thinking.

Sota stayed very still and let Rin fall asleep on his shoulder on the way home, and stuck his tongue out at his mother when he caught her smiling at them in the mirror. When they got back to the Hirugashi house, Rin was still sleeping so Mrs. Hirugashi unloaded the bags in a few trips while Sota carried Rin upstairs to Kagome's room. He put the coat on the back of the computer chair and looked at her a bit before leaving.

Just as the door shut and Sota turned away, one of Rin's brown eyes peeked open and she fell asleep with a smile on her lips. Sota went down the stairs and noticed that there was a message on the answering machine and he hit the play button. The machine clicked and the message began. It was Kasumi.

"Hey Sota honey!" the voice said. "I'm sorry for acting so mean to Rin! I really should be nicer to someone who has had such a bad time. You were right to yell at me. It's what I get for being jealous. You forgive me don't you Sota honey?"

Sota stared at the answering machine in awe. Kasumi WAS jealous. It was a first. And it was also annoying. He thought it might be nice to have Kasumi yell at him when other girls flirted with him, but now that Rin was around...he just wished that Kasumi would leave him alone.

"What that Kasumi on the phone?" asked Mrs. Hirugashi, coming into the hallway. "Could you go wake Rin up? Kagome left a message that says she should stay here until they can find that boy. He got away from Sesshomaru and Inuyasha."

"Kay. I'll go tell her." Said Sota, going up the stairs two at a time. He opened the door to Kagome's room and walked over to where Rin was actually sleeping this time. He stopped and inhaled sharply. She looked so wonderful, her black hair draping over the covers, her face peaceful. Sota carefully sat on the edge of the bed and remembered the time in the forest where she had kissed him. He blushed remembering how soft her lips felt against his cheek. He lifted a hand and carefully moved some hair away from her face. She moaned and shifted, her face now towards him.

Before he could stop himself, he slowly bent down and gently kissed her. He heard the sheets shift and felt Rin's arms snake around his waist. She pulled him closer and he closed his eyes, his chest against hers. The kiss became deeper and she slowly let his tongue go into her mouth and he undid her pigtails, letting her dark hair slide through his fingers. Sota couldn't help himself and repositioned himself so he was directly over Rin. Absent-mindedly he was glad he had shut the door or his mother might pass in the hallway and come in, interrupting them.

Sota's one hand snaked under her tee shirt and made its way over her stomach. Then, with a great force, Rin pushed him off the bed and yanked the covers over her head. Shaking his head, Sota saw the covers shift as she quivered.

'Stupid!' he yelled at himself. 'Of course she's scared to have anyone touch her.' Sota got off the floor, gave Rin the message he was supposed to and stood in the doorway as he left and whispered:

"I'm sorry."

After Rin heard the door click, she sighed and threw the covers off her head. She cursed herself thinking, 'Rin! How dumb can you be? You had the person you wanted to kiss the most do so and you push him off because you are scared! Coward!'

She got up and saw the bags that Kasumi had put all the items from the "indoor market" in and rummaged through them until she found a pair of what Kasumi had called pajamas. Rin changed into the button up shirt and pajama pants that where white with little yellow ducks on them.

"It is very hot in here." Said Rin, feeling the warmness pricking at her skin. She walked over to the window and cracked it, feeling a soft breeze drift into the room. She leaned on the sill and let the breeze gently dance with her hair. She sighed and closed her eyes.

"It feels just like I'm back at home. I miss Lord Sesshomaru. And Kekki." Said Rin to herself, tears welling in the corners of her eyes for her deceased friend. "How could that heartless bastard have killed her?"

"Easily." Said a voice softly in her ear. Rin froze and a pair of strong arms wrapped around her. "I've missed you my darling. Shall you come to me now my dearest Rin?" A pair of warm lips kissed her cheek and Rin saw the figure that was holding her out of the corner of her eye. She screamed as loud as she possible could.

"SSSSSSSOOOOOTTTTAAAAAA!!!"

Sota sat in the computer chair in his room, his heart still going a million miles an hour. He stared at the wallpaper he had on his computer. It was of him and Kasumi a year before on their first date to the school fair. They both looked so happy. Sota got out of the chair and was just about to go downstairs to get a quick something to eat before he went to bed when he heard an ear splitting scream come from Rin.

"SSSSSSSOOOOOTTTTAAAAAA!!!"

Sota yanked open his door and ran to Kagome's room, his feet nearly slipping as his he threw open the door. The demon that hurt her before was holding her.

"Let her go!" shouted Sota.

"Make me you pitiful human." Said Keiichi, leaning his head on Rin's shoulder.

"I said," yelled Sota. " LET HER GO!"

He held up a hand and it contained the small branch he had used to attack Keiichi the time before and make the force field around him-self when he was running from Kekki and Rin when he first met them. A large blast of power left his fingers and caught Keiichi in the back and he screamed in agony.

Keiichi jumped out the window, sending glass onto the floor. Sota ran over to Rin who clamped onto him, shaking with fright. Sota took her hand and they ran past Mrs. Hirugashi who was just coming out of her room. Sota took Rin out to the well and they jumped through. The blue light shimmered around them as Rin hugged onto Sota. Once they climbed out, Sota took Rin through the forest, ignoring the pain in his bare feet.

"Kagome! Inuyasha! Get up!" Sota shouted as he barged into their hut. Inuyasha and Kagome both came in and Inuyasha snapped:

"What the hell is wrong with you? Keiichi is out there somewhere!"

"No he's not!" yelled Sota.

"What are you talking about Sota?"

"He came and attacked Rin in Kagome's bedroom!" said Sota. "Just look at her!" The two adults stared at Rin who had latched herself onto Sota once more.

"What's that on her cheek?" asked Kagome.

Inuyasha walked over to Rin and looked at it. "It's glowing," he said. "Kagome, can you go with Sango and Miroku to get Sesshomaru? Tell them to bring Hajime and Nodaka over here."

"Kay. Inuyasha, what will we do about Yoh?"

"We'll have to leave her with Mom. Sota, you bring Rin and Yoh back to the house. And make sure that you put a barrier. Get some of Grandpa's seals if you have to." Said Kagome, getting her bow and arrows.

"Are you sure? I can help!" said Sota.

"Look," barked Inuyasha. "We need you to protect Rin. Got that?"

"But-!"

"No buts about it Sota, GO!"

"Wait, give this to Lord Sesshomaru." Said Rin. She held out a ring and put it in Kagome's hand. "I was wearing this when..."

"Never mind." Said Inuyasha. "Let's go all ready." Inuyasha went into the other room and got a very sleepy Yoh up. "Yoh, you're going to go with Sota and Rin okay? Hajime and Nodaka are coming too."

"Haji, Nody," Yoh grumbled as Sota took the sleep toddler in his arms. Kagome returned a few minutes later with Miroku and Sango. Their ten- year-old twins Hajime and Nodaka came into the room looking very upset.

"How come we can't help?" grumbled Hajime.

"Because you're ten." Said the monk, clasping a hand on his son's shoulders. "Now go with Sota."

Rin took Yoh from Sota and he sleepily snuggled against her as Sota took Hajime and Nodaka's hands. They went into the forest and to the well. They jumped in and Sota climbed out of the well with first Nodaka then Hajime clinging onto his neck. Then he went down and helped Rin out.

"In the house," said Sota. "Now."

The small group went in and once they were in the house and Yoh sleeping in the extra crib Sota took out the branch and chanted a spell. Rin looked out the windows to see a white blue light surrounding the house.

"That should do it." said Sota, tucking the branch back into his pocket.

"Why do you use that Sota?" asked Rin.

"It helps Uncle Sota channel his powers better. Auntie Kagome uses her arrows and Uncle Sota uses the branch. It's from some tree where he carved his name with Kasumi's in a big heart." Said Nodaka.

"I see." Said Rin. She looked away from Sota and walked over to the couch. Hajime and Nodaka plopped down next to her.

"Ya wanna watch a movie with us?" asked Hajime. "Nody, go get the movie."

"Kay," said Nodaka hopping off the couch. She took a video from the bookshelf and said to Rin: "This is the one we watched when we come here. It's so rare that we do this is all we have time to do."

"You guys stay here okay?" said Sota. "Mom, can you watch over Yoh for me? Scream for me if you need me, I'm going to get at least a little bit of sleep."

He left and Rin sneezed again as Nodaka and Hajime started to watch "The Little Mermaid."

"Rin, have you got a cold?" asked Mrs. Hirugashi. "Wait here, I'll get you something for that all right?" She left the room then came back with a cup of water and two tiny pills. "Just swallow these okay?"

Rin nodded and did so, the pills leaving an unwelcome taste at first but the water quickly replaced it. She gulped the rest of it down. It felt so wonderful to her dry throat. Halfway through the movie, Rin felt her eyes start to droop.

"Hey, Rin." Said Nodaka. "You look sleepy. Are you sleepy? You should go to sleep if you're sleepy."

"Nody shut up." Said Hajime. "You're annoying."

"So are you."

"You first."

"No you!"

"You!"

"You!"

"AGH!" shouted Hajime yanking Nodaka to the ground. He started to tackle her and Rin grabbed them and yanked them apart.

"Be quiet!" she snarled.

Okay, not the best ending but it's seven pages and that's the limit. Plus I have more the next chapter anyway.
