Chapter Nine: She Really Does
Last Chapter:
"Forgive me, I..."
"I shan't forgive you. Never. Now give her here." Sesshomaru said as he held out his arms to take Rin. His left arm had been restored with the help of the Jewel of Four Souls when Naraku was defeated.
Sota transferred the sleeping girl to her father's arms and told him bluntly:
"I will except my punishment. May you tell her one thing for me when she wakes up?"
"No!"
"Sesshomaru...let him," said Inuyasha.
"Please Sesshomaru, let him give her just one message." Echoed Kagome.
"Fine, one thing and one only." Snarled Sesshomaru in annoyance. Sota stepped near her and looked down at the sleeping girl. He delicately moved a strand of hair from her face.
"Rin," he said. Sota stepped back and squared his shoulders. He looked directly at Sesshomaru, than Inuyasha and his older sister, his mother and finally back at Rin.
"I love you."
The Story Continues...
Sesshomaru wore a very strange expression, a cross between shock, anger and surprise. Sota didn't say anything else but gazed at Rin for a moment longer then started walking towards his house. Inuyasha took Kagome in his arms and said:
"We're going to stay back here for a while Sesshomaru. This search has gotten harder since we know that Keiichi can go through the well. His scents all over the place and we need a rest. You go home with Rin."
Mrs. Hirugashi had joined Sota in going in the house. Sesshomaru and his brother turned to go their separate ways but Kagome remained facing the great dog lord.
"Think about it Sesshomaru. You do know that in the tiniest place in her mind she will blame you for this."
"I know."
"Let me tell you one more thing Sesshomaru. You think you've only broken Sota's heart, taking away the one girl he truly loves, but you've broken Rin's heart as well. I saw the way she looked at him when she came to visit. She loves him Sesshomaru, she's just too scared." Said Kagome.
Sesshomaru was silent and started walking towards the God Tree with his daughter in his arms. Without another word, he went down the well and Kagome sighed.
"What do you think he will do?" asked Kagome.
Inuyasha sighed and looked at his wife. "Even after all these years Kag, I still don't and never will understand what goes through that dumbass brain."
When Rin woke up she saw she was in one of the rooms at Sesshomaru's palace. She shook her head and felt as though something heavy had been lifted off her. She looked out the window of the room to see the stars peeking down through the curtains.
"What...happened?" she asked herself.
Rin got up and barely noticed she was wearing a sleeping kimono. She walked to the window and placed a hand on the glass.
"I remember Sota holding me...how did I get back here?"
"Rin, are you awake?" asked Sesshomaru quietly. He peeked his head in the door and stepped into the room. Rin looked at her father and rushed to his arms.
"Oh!" she cried. "Lord Sesshomaru what happened? How did I get back here?"
"I took you back. It was too dangerous to leave you in that boy's care." Said Sesshomaru.
"It was not! I was fine!" protested Rin. "It wasn't dangerous!"
"I let that boy protect you, with all that power he has yet he let you run off and you were left UN-protected. Shigure's son could have gotten you!" snapped Sesshomaru. "You are much safer here with me. Do you understand that?"
"No! I don't!" Rin shouted. "It's your fault in the first place! You told me I could never fall in love then you try to mate me with some damn pervert! And THEN you take me away from the one boy I've EVER in all my life LOVED! And it is because of YOUR mistake!"
Sesshomaru was quiet as Rin shouted this, pushing away from him. She stared at him with angry brown eyes, the eyes that had once made his heart like putty. He would do anything for her and yet...he put her through so much. He had meant to do good to have Rin mate Keiichi. The alliance would be stronger, the lands would merge, and Rin, his daughter would have someone to love.
But everything had backfired in his face. Instead he had caused her so much pain it was tearing at both of their souls.
"You really love the boy don't you?" asked Sesshomaru, looking at his daughter. He waited for an answer, his heart thumping heavily in his chest. If she said no, he would continue to protect her, to love her, to keep her from the outside. If she said yes...he would not stand in her way any longer. Rin stared at him her brown eyes burning with a passion he had never seen before.
"Lord Sesshomaru...Father...Daddy...haven't you ever met someone and known? Known that they could make you happy and all you wanted to do was make them happy? To love them until you were brought to the Underworld together?" Rin asked him.
"No." was Sesshomaru's simple reply.
"Then you can't understand, but PLEASE try. I love him. I need to be with him. Even if I have to die to do so." Rin whispered.
Sesshomaru sighed heavily, his body and mind exhausted. How could he deny her? He never could. "Stay the night at least Rin. Get some rest. I promise, tomorrow morning I will take you. You shall come back to me won't you daughter?"
Rin hugged her father and kissed him on the cheek, her heart welling with joy. "How could I possibly stay away Father? You NEED me." She cried, kissing his cheek. He wrapped his arms around her, afraid to loose her sooner than morning.
Sesshomaru then left Rin to sleep, although he knew it would be hard for her. But it was what she needed, and what he needed as well. Sesshomaru went back to his own room, the weight of knowing he was going to loose his daughter dragging him down. Rin snuggled into the covers; her eyes wide open as she stared out the window as if willing to make the sun rise faster.
'Sota...I'm coming back. Just you wait.'
"Lord Keiichi, I have most urgent news for you!" said a lower class demon that the Southern demon had been using to spy on Rin with.
"What is it?" snapped Keiichi, not addressing the demon by name. He hadn't bothered to learn any. What was the point of learning a lower class demon's name?
"Lady Rin has received a message of love from the human boy." Whispered the demon, shrinking back, ready for his master's angry outburst.
Keiichi stood from where he sat and smiled. He turned to the other demon and asked; "Now why in the world would that be urgent news?" Still smiling, Keiichi ran a single beam of black light through the lower class demon, tearing him apart from the inside out. His burnt remains fell around Keiichi, covering him with blood.
"This...has gone too far." Said Lord Shigure, walking up to his son. "She has too many people protecting her. Forget her Keiichi. You can have any woman you want. Does that not please you?"
"No!" shouted Keiichi. "The one woman I want I cannot have. And you shall stand in my way of doing things any longer Father! No longer shall you hold me back!" And he let the same light that killed the lower class demon ripped through light demon lord, with a scream of pain and horror filling the air.
"Pest." Keiichi said, shaking the blood from his fingers. "Now, to claim what's rightfully mine!"
"Father! Father!" called Rin. She bounced into his room. "Father, Father!" She leapt onto his bed and started to shake him. "Wake up, wake up! We have to go to Sota!"
When he didn't answer, Rin blinked. "Father?" she asked again. She peeled back the futon covers and screamed. Keiichi shot up and grabbed her and threw her down on the futon.
"KEIICHI!" she screamed. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH FATHER?"
"Do not be concerned with that my love," said Keiichi, holding her down by the shoulders. "It is not important. Now, lie still."
"Let go of me you bastard!" shouted Rin, lashing out at him. She kicked him and pushed at him everywhere she could, but he was unaffected by all of them. "Bastard! Bastard, bastard, BA-A-A-A-S-TARD-D-D!"
"Hush now love, and surrender!" said Keiichi, pushing her farther into the futon by her shoulders. He was sitting atop her and smiled evilly. "Now, kiss me."
"No!" protested Rin. "Father! SOTA-A-A-A-A!!!"
Rin gasped and sat up, breathing heavily. She ran a hand down her face. "Uh," she said, flopping back on her pillow. "What a nightmare." Climbing out from under the twisted covers, Rin walked to the windows and pulled them open. The cool night air rushed to still her fevered body. Rin shivered, rubbing her arms she looked up at the waning moon.
'Oh Sota...what did Father say to you? When can I be near you again?' she thought as she hugged herself. 'Are you looking at this moon as well?'
"Grrrr, damn it!" Sota exclaimed, patting his cheeks. "Stop thinking about her! She's gone! She's not coming back so get over it all ready!"
Sota banged his head against the wall and cursed. "Damn!" he said. He punched the wall with the side of his fist and rested his pounding his forehead against his arm. 'I can't get her out of my head.'
With his sparkling brown eyes, Sota looked out the window. The only thing he spotted were stars. 'No moon tonight,' he thought. 'I wonder if it's the same in Rin's time? It's hard to believe she's been gone for centuries. I wonder what happened?'
"Sota, are you still up?" asked Kagome, opening the door to his room.
"Yeah, I am..." he trailed off. His older sister sighed. What a hopeless case her brother was.
"Sota...if you really love her this much go after her. You can at least get past Sesshomaru can't you?" Kagome asked coming into the room and shutting the door.
"Of course I can," said Sota angrily. "But she doesn't want me, I can tell. Why should she want anyone after what that son of a whore did to her?"
"Man, even after all these years you still are the dumb little brother." Kagome sighed, sitting down on his bed. He twitched.
"Dumb? And who missed years of school running off to the Feudal Era? And WHO was the one that kept you up to date with your school assignments and asked your friends to keep notes? Huh?" protested Sota, turning to face his older sister.
"That's not what I meant Sota," said Kagome. "Couldn't you see it? She does love you."
"I..."
"Shut up and listen. SHE loves YOU Sota." Said Kagome slowly.
Sota stared at his sister with large eyes and gasped. He could see Rin latching onto him, Rin smiling at him, Rin walking with him towards the little stream, Rin planting their first kiss innocently on his cheek.
"Rin..."
"Uh huh. Get it now dumbass?" Kagome asked.
"Hey...you shouldn't talk like that to your little brother!" said Sota, walking over and hugging Kagome.
"No, I shouldn't," Kagome replied. She chuckled. "But I'll do it anyway."
"Kagome!"
"Bluh!"
"Grrrr, Kagome!"
"Catch me if you can Sota! I'll buy you anything you want from the café in town you like if you do!" Kagome called, running from the room.
"I'll get you-u-u!" Sota replied, following.

Author's Note:
Sorry about the kind of shortness of this chapter! But I'm sure you loyal readers still love me anyway! I just kind of wanted to show the goofiness of what Sota and Kagome were like together.
Since I first started this story I wanted to make it revolve around Yoh, but as you can see, that didn't really pull through. I am going to add him more in the next chapter and you can finally see what the little boy can do very soon!
