Chapter Eleven: The Aches of a Heart (Part One): Heart Break!
Last Chapter:
Yoh looked through the back window of the car and pointed a little pudgy finger at the reflections of light coming through. Suddenly, a screech of pain could be heard and a loud explosion. Inuyasha stared at his son.
"Yoh, how far did you glue him down?" he asked.
"So that the metal snakes under the hard stuff would eat him," said Yoh proudly.
"Damn, I better hope he doesn't get the idea to overthrow me." Grumbled Inuyasha.
"Hold on! We're almost there!" exclaimed Sota as the car screeched on. They rounded a corner that led to the shrine and they parked the car and dashed inside. Inuyasha yanked Yoh off the seat and they nearly tore the front door off its hinges getting inside, finding...
...Kagome and Mrs. Hirugashi unloading a few bags of groceries while Nodaka and Hajime fought over the last cookie. Mrs. Hirugashi gazed as her dust covered son, son in law and grandson with a smiling face.
"My, my. Did you dears have a nice day?" she asked sweetly.
Inuyasha and Sota just groaned as Yoh wiggled free from his father's arms and ran into his mothers. "Mommy, Mommy! We fought the Glow Man and I made the snakes eat him!" he giggled. Kagome stared at her son then at her husband and brother.
"Inuyasha..." she said innocently.
"W-what?"
"SIT, SIT, SIT! WHAT THE HELL WHERE YOU THINKING BRINGING YOH ALONG TO CHASE AFTER KEIICHI! SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT!"
The Story Continues...Mrs. Hirugashi handed Inuyasha an ice pack that he put instantly on his face, laying stretched out on the couch. Kagome sat near his feet, Yoh in her lap looking only somewhat apologetic towards her husband.
"I thought you'd taken that thing off by now," said Sota, trying to keep from laughing at Inuyasha's red face.
"Nah, keeps him in line. He's still an arrogant bastard sometimes." Sighed Kagome, ruffling Yoh's hair.
"Mommy, what's a bass tard?" asked Yoh. Sota couldn't contain his laughter there, and Kagome hushed him and told him that he should say cookie instead. He did, bouncing in her lap yelling:
"Daddy is a cookie, Daddy is a cookie, and Daddy is a big, fat COOKIE!"
Kagome put her hand over Yoh's mouth until he settled down and Inuyasha smiled and nearly laughed himself.
"So, what are we going to do now? Do you think that Keiichi knows we sent Rin back?" asked Inuyasha.
"Oh, I think he knows she's back. Miroku and Sango dropped by earlier today saying that they keep running into his spies, trying to get close to her. Sesshomaru's murdered about 105 so far." Said Kagome.
"That many in one day?" said Sota in disbelief.
"Fathers," was all Kagome said with a shrug. "Anyway, I just want to know why he's still here even though he knows Rin is back in her own time." Kagome's face held a look of befuddlement for a moment then she gasped and turned to Inuyasha. He looked at her and shook his head.
"No, Kagome. It's not possible." He said defiantly.
"What?" asked Sota.
"Inuyasha, he could have cloaked his scent, he knows!" cried Kagome, an angry and sad tone in her voice. "How could this have happened? I thought for SURE Sesshomaru would have smelt anything, but he was too angry come to think of it..."
"Kagome, tell me what the fuck is going on right now!" Sota said loudly.
"Sota!" came Mrs. Hirugashi's voice from the kitchen.
"Sorry Mom," apologized Sota. "Now spill."
"Sota, this is just an idea mind you but...maybe Keiichi knows what you said to Rin before Sesshomaru took her away." Whispered Kagome. "One of his spies could have heard it or he could have heard it himself."
"So that means...he'd be after me too?" said Sota.
Kagome and Inuyasha looked away from him. "Oh like that isn't a dead giveaway right there," Sota grumbled.
"Hey, I just remembered." Said Inuyasha. "What the heck did you do about Kasumi?"
"Shit, fuck, damn!" growled Sota. "I sent her home when Rin went missing and told her I'd call!" He bounced off the chair he was sitting in and grabbed the phone. "Thank God it's not too late in the day,"
Kagome motioned for Inuyasha to get off the couch and follow him out. Mrs. Hirugashi suddenly disappeared and Sota was left alone. Sota quickly punched in Kasumi's room number and heard the phone ring. It rang a few more times and Kasumi's perky voice came on the phone.
"This is Kasumi's room, Kasumi speaking! Who is this?" she said happily.
"Uh," said Sota blankly. "Kas, this...this is Sota. Sorry about not calling you."
"Oh Sota honey! Don't worry about it, I never wait by the phone for hours waiting for you to call!" Kasumi said cheerfully.
"Uh, right. Kasumi would you mind dashing over here real quick? I need to talk to you about something." Said Sota his voice kind of sticking. He cleared his throat as she replied.
"We're talking right now Sota honey! Can't we talk over the phone?" she asked pleasantly.
"Uh, no actually. Please come over Kasumi, this is really, REALLY important." Said Sota into the phone almost angrily. Why did she have to make this so damn hard on him!
"Well, if you really want me too. Is Rin still there? I wouldn't want to impose." Said Kasumi happily.
"No...uh Rin went home. Her father came for her last night."
"Oh, are her family troubles over?"
"Kasumi, I really can't say, just come over here okay?" said Sota sighing heavily as he leaned back in the chair.
"Be right there!" she yelped merrily and Sota heard the phone go off with a click. What was he really going to tell Kasumi when she got there? He had never explained where he disappeared to over breaks and weekends sometimes. He also never had explained where he got some injuries from fighting demons. And how oh how was he going to explain what was going on with Rin?
Sota waited and waited the minutes seeming like hours as he waited for Kasumi. It was about sunset when she finally got there. "Sorry it took so long Sota honey!" she said with a large smile as she walked into the house. Sota took one look at her and knew the reason she was late. Kasumi had taken the time to get all dressed up in a very light tee shirt and her shortest pleaded skirt full with knee high socks and sneakers. She had on a fresh face of makeup and a smiling pair of lip stick adorned lips.
Sota inwardly smacked himself. What was Kasumi expecting? They were 17 for God's sake! "Uh, Kasumi come sit down okay?" asked Sota, motioning towards the couch.
"Kay," she said willingly and took a seat next to Sota. Her eyes were fixed intently on him.
"Kas, we've been going out for three years right?" said Sota.
"Yes, three." Said Kasumi with her same happy smile. Couldn't she tell what was coming?
"In those three years, haven't you EVER felt like...like you wanted to be with someone else?" asked Sota.
"No Sota honey. I know what's going on here." Said Kasumi with a little laugh.
"You do?" said Sota with mild surprise. "And you're okay with it?"
"Oh totally!" replied Kasumi. "I knew it was coming, Sota honey you don't have to worry! I won't ever leave you! What a silly thing to be scared about!"
'I knew it was too good to be true,' thought Sota gloomily. 'What was I thinking? This is Kasumi.'
As Kasumi giggled Sota stared at her and slightly shook his head saying:
"Uh, no Kasumi. That's not what this is about."
She stopped mid-giggle. Kasumi stared at him, finally a look of worry overcoming her face. "It's...not?" she stumbled. Sota shook his head again. "T-then wha-? Oh...oh Sota honey...you...?"
"Kasumi I'm really, very sorry. You're a wonderful girl, and one day you'll make a guy happy but..." said Sota. "But that isn't me. It's time I finally explained some things."
Kasumi's usually happiness was gone. She still had a forced smile on her face, tears starting to well in her eyes. Sota took a deep breath and continued. "Kas, my sister Kagome doesn't live in Sendai like I told you. She lives right here in Tokyo. But it's different, do you know that old well out in the shrine, the one you can't go near?" Kasumi nodded.
"That well connects our time, this year to another time. The Sengoku period, and my brother-in-law is a half demon." Said Sota. "In this time he is over 500 years old and back in his own time he's the age of an old man."
Kasumi stared at Sota and yanked away from him. "You're crazy! What the hell is wrong with you Sota! Demons? Time hopping wells? That's nuts!"
"But it's true!" protested Sota. "And Rin..."
"No, no way!" shouted Kasumi. "Don't tell me that I'm being dumped for that...that little skank!?"
"She is not a skank!" exclaimed Sota rising off the couch.
"I can't believe you would make such a bull shit story so you could be with her instead of me!"
"This is the truth Kasumi! Thanks to you I might not ever get to see her again! Her father, a full demon took her away from this time last night because you brought Hikaru over and he took her down that damned tunnel and scared her off!"
"Stop lying to me! All you ever do is lie to me!" Kasumi yelled back.
"Shut your stupid mouth girl. You're hurting me and my son's ears." Growled Inuyasha from the top of the stairs; he carried a sniffling Yoh in his arms. Kasumi stared.
"G...guh..." was the only thing she could manage to say.
Kagome appeared next to Inuyasha and said quietly, "Kasumi, what Sota is saying is true. I live in the Sengoku period with Inuyasha. He's my husband and he really is a half demon. And this is our son Yoh. Sota's told you about Yoh before right? He's not making this up to ditch you for Rin. I think you need to hear him out about her."
Kasumi stared at Kagome, then at Inuyasha and finally let her eyes rest on Sota. She sat back down. Sota did so too and told her just about everything. Kagome and Inuyasha had stayed, listening to everything that Sota said.
"But...but why are you leaving me for her? You met her such a little time ago." Sobbed Kasumi. "Its like Romeo and Juliet!"
"I can't explain why I feel this Kasumi, but I just do. I love her." Said Sota quietly.
"I see, well...I-I'll be leaving then. Good-bye Sota." Said Kasumi with a shuddering voice. Mascara was running down her cheeks just as abundantly as her tears. With out another word Kasumi let the door shut with a loud bang and Yoh hugged onto Inuyasha flattening his little ears against his head, mumbling about loud noises.
Sota sank down into the couch and put his head in his hands. "That is the hardest thing I've ever had to do." He muttered.
"Don't worry, you'll have Rin back soon. It's too late today but we'll go get her tomorrow all right?" said Kagome coming down and sitting next to him, rubbing his back. Sota gave a tiny nod and sighed. Kagome was right. Rin would soon be back in his arms and that thought alone made all the difference in the world.

Author's Note:
So, the eleventh chapter up and I would like to thank all of you wonderful readers that make writing this worthwhile. I'm not sure if you remember but in the chapter after "I Love You," which was called "She Really Does," Sesshomaru said that he had never felt a pure and absolute love for someone.
That is in fact not true (or at least not in my universe.) I'm not sure if you noticed my other story called "A Demon's Heart" or not, but is a full account set in the past when Inuyasha was born when Sesshomaru did in fact fall in love. If you would care to read it please do. And continue to review, as I love hearing from you although my monkey army gets restless with no one to threaten.
Also, I will not be updating for a while and I mean more than normal because I have been grounded. I might not be on the Internet for a few weeks but the moment I come back on again, I will send an update. Thank you. Death, I wonder...do you feel sorry for Kasumi?
