Chapter Fourteen: The Dangers of the Heart

Last Chapter:

"You're mad. Do you realize what you could do to a child mind, exposing him to such a great bloodshed at such a young age?" said Sesshomaru. "I am coming along. Rin is my daughter and I will not let this child be branded by your rashness."

"Fine, whatever. Guys, please go all ready? Keiichi should be near the center of the camp with Rin." Said Sota, charging through the demons with Sesshomaru close behind. They disappeared and Kagome paused, a fearful look in her eyes as she watched her little brother and the demon lord go as her son went along with them.

"Kagome, worry later, we need to get Kasumi." Said Inuyasha, pausing to still his Tetsusaiga and put a hand on his wife's face. She nodded and off they went in the direction of Kasumi and her demon captor.

"Why-would-Keiichi-want-Kasumi-if-he-know-Sota-wants-Rin?" panted out Miroku as they went along. Even without the use of his Wind Tunnel, the monk was still very powerful and had spent a good time training his powers. A small scar in the shape of a ring was all that was left of the demon mark.

"We'll figure that out later," snapped his wife as she left her boomerang slice through the demon holding Kasumi. The group rushed up to her. Kagome held her up with a worried look on her face.

"Kasumi, Kasumi are you okay?" asked Kagome.

Kasumi groaned and her dark brown eyes flittered open. She smiled happily and hugged onto Kagome. "Yes, yes I'm fine now that you've all come to rescue me!" Suddenly Kagome let out a scream and Inuyasha smacked Kasumi away, holding onto his wife.

Kagome had a large cut across her upper back, her dark black hair singled short. Kasumi picked herself up, laughing. Her dark brown hair seemed to come alive and slither into her scull, turning a sickly shade of green. She lifted her head laughing, a pair of bright red eyes glimmering up at them. She stood and held up her hand, a small round object in it. The group gasped.

"Thanks to the Sacred Jewel," she laughed at them. "I have become more powerful than you all and my master says that you are not to pass beyond this point until it is by his guards, carrying your lifeless and mattered bodies!"

The Story Continues...

Sota and Sesshomaru (along with Yoh, who was starting to whimper) slew Keiichi's lower demons right and left while calling out for Rin. No answer came. 'What if he hurt her?' thought Sota, clutching his channel and slaughtering the demons. 'No, he wouldn't do that, he's too obsessed. Or would he to piss me off?'

"Sota, pay attention!" cried Sesshomaru, killing a demon that was descending on Sota without him noticing. "I can't hear Rin call back, something must be wrong, check inside the tents, I'll hold these bastards off!"

Sota noticed a large tent with a flag over it and rushed to it, heading for the flaps. He pushed them open a small spark of something flying around him and he ducked inside only to be pinned against something quite solid by a silver sword that came charging at him.

Rin had retied her ribbon securely around her waist and picked up the sword, her entire body remembering all the training she had done with Sesshomaru. She struck at the flaps, crying out angrily in silence. Why did she have to be so weak against Keiichi? She was the daughter of the most powerful demon in all of Japan! Why did she squirm away from his touch and act as if she could never defend herself!?

Rin heard someone approaching through the entire mess of battle cries and she thought it Keiichi, returned to torture her some more. Rin waited for him to come in, the sword poised and ready. The moment the flaps opened and someone burst inside Rin thrust the sword out and it snagged. She had shut her eyes, and when she came to open them...

"Jesus Christ, are you trying to kill me or something!" Sota shouted angrily, looking as though he had gotten the biggest shock of his life. "What the hell did I do to deserve a SWORD to be plunged at me?"

Rin gasped, no sound coming from her mouth. She cried from joy that he finally came for her! He came! Rin tugged the sword away leaving a big rip in Sota's shirt. She flung herself at him, the sword thumping against his back. Sota was not entirely shocked and comfortingly put his arms around her.

"We've come to get you Rin. Me, your father, Kagome and Inuyasha, along with Sango, Miroku and even Yoh is helping. I'm going to take you home." Said Sota into her ear. "What has he done to you? You look exhausted...oh...damn Rin did he...?"

Rin shook her head frantically as she pulled away from him, and pointed to her throat. She "spoke" but due to Keiichi's spell, no sound came forth. Sota stared. She rambled silently until he put a hand over her mouth.

"Why don't you save the rambles for when you can actually talk huh?" said Sota, standing up. He pulled Rin close to him and pushed one of the tent flaps open. "I bet the bastard cast a spell to keep you in here. That's why I didn't fall through when you jabbed that sword at me. Come on now."

As they exited and continued to the mess to find Sesshomaru and Yoh, Sota shouted to Rin above the roar:

"Keiichi kidnapped Kasumi sometime after he did the same with you! We have to find the rest of the group, they went to set her free!"

Rin waved her hands around frantically and pulled Sota alongside another tent, mimicking Kasumi and her cheerfulness. Sota stared at her and finally caught the concept. "You have to tell me something about Kasumi right?" he asked. Rin nodded.

She made an impression of Keiichi by holding a hand in front of her eyes to show that a "light" was hurting them. Sota guessed that as well. Rin held up her two hands as though they were talking to each other.

"Are you telling me that..." said Sota. "Kasumi and Keiichi actually talked to each other?" Rin nodded again. She drew her fingers into a round shape and kept pointing at it. "Uh, they talked about the...earth...sun...moon...a pearl...a jewel...um..."

Rin clapped happily at his last suggestion and that brought the two to the attention of a rather burly looking demon. He charged at them and Sota threw Rin away, sending a sword like blast of energy into the demon and he crumbled, dead, blood soaking the bottom half of Sota's jeans; as well as his sneakers.

"Okay, a jewel. They talked about a jewel...the Jewel of Four Souls?" said Sota in a weak voice. Rin nodded. She put her "jewel" into her other hand. Then she mimicked Kasumi again and held up two fingers. She then mimicked Kasumi get again except with a more evil look to her face and posed as those she was a body builder.

"God...we need to find your father me if I'm getting the right drift." Said Sota, clutching her hand and pulling her back into the fray. They soon found him a few good feet away from them, tents or demon's own weapons attacking killing off the monsters with Yoh now crying fully.

"SESSHOMARU! SESSHOMARU, HE TOOK THE JEWEL! HE GAVE IT TO KASUMI AND NOW SHE'S A DEMON! I HAVE RIN, WE MUST GO BACK AND HELP THE OTHERS!" Sota shouted on the top of his lungs.

Sesshomaru didn't waste time answering, he jumped up and landed in front of them, grabbing onto Rin and yelled for Sota to hand onto his neck. Sota did so and with another leap, Sesshomaru bounded through the frenzy, heading towards where they last had seen the rest of their group. Of course, it wasn't hard to really find since a horde of demons were being flung aside as Inuyasha used the Tetsusaiga to try and cut at something –more of a someone- floating in the air.

Sota, Sesshomaru and Rin stopped in their tracks when they saw what was going on. The newly demonized Kasumi was hovering slightly out of Inuyasha's reach, knocking away Kagome's arrows and narrowly dodging Inuyasha. Sango and Miroku were keeping the crowd of demons heading at them off.

"Bout time!" shouted Inuyasha, swinging again.

"We could really use some help! I think that Keiichi has Kasumi under a spell! I can't break it! He even made a fake Jewel!" shouted Kagome.

"The Jewel is no FAKE." Spat Kasumi, waving her hand and sending a force of energy at Kagome. Kagome held up a hand and a force field bounced it back sending it into the onslaught of demons. They shrieked and pulled back only to come forward again.

"Kasumi, why are you doing this!" called Sota, holding Rin close to him. She shuddered against him, and clutched his shirt with red hands. He stared angrily up at the girl he once "loved."

"It's simple my dear Sota," said Kasumi. "Master so desperately wants to meet you. Why don't you go see him!?" She didn't waste a moment and took something from her pocket and blew it at Sota. The powder, which she blew at him, was a bright orange, and stuck fast to him. It also stuck fast to Rin, Sesshomaru and Yoh.

Rin couldn't see, she could hear Sota crying out; her father cursing and Yoh begin to wail louder. She kept her silence though she tried to shout, to cry but still she could not utter a word. Suddenly, the darkness began to turn to light, fading slowly. Then Rin could see again. They weren't in the battlefield. But they could still hear it. It was some sort of very, very large outdoor temple.

She hugged onto Sota's arm, and looked around her. The floor was made up of large gray stones, and had a set of about twelve stone pillars along each side and then six on two others. There was a shrine in the middle of this temple, but some of the pillars were crumbling, and so was the floor in which they stood upon. Rin winced as she stepped on a few pebbles of the fallen rock, having been in bare feet.

It was deathly silent except for the battle cries and explosions coming from who knew where. They reached the shrine and for some reason Yoh had become very still and quiet and kept demanding that Rin take him. He squirmed so much as Sesshomaru held fast to him, saying he needed to be still.

Sesshomaru gave a growl as a blast of Yoh's power smacked him in the face and Sesshomaru lifted Yoh away from him, calling for Rin to get him. Rin released herself from Sota's arm and took Yoh in her own as he snuggled against her.

"Where do you think he is?" asked Sesshomaru.

"I don't care." Said Sota. "But he's here. I can feel him."

"Are you sure it's him? I can't smell a thing," said Sesshomaru and clearly he was annoyed at that concept. "I am quite ready to tear that THING apart joint by joint for what he's done to my daughter."

"Really now?" said a laughing voice. "How do you plan to do that, if you have no idea where I am?"

Sota spun around on his heel and smiled clapping his hands. "Think you're so damn clever do you?" Sota laughed, looking at the entire temple again and again. He spun happily one more time, laughing louder. The voice of Keiichi growled angrily.

"You think you have found me? Prove it, you mortal bastard." It snapped.

"Watch what you imply about where I come from, demon bastard." Replied Sota. "You guys, back up. This is going to be big." He retracted his channel from his pocket and fixed it up in the air a little way a ways from his hand. It hovered and Rin stared, holding Yoh tighter as Sesshomaru hurried her away from her love.

Sota spun yet again and once he was facing the shrine a topped with an unknown God –at least to Rin and her father- he let an explosion of power fly straight at it and suddenly the form of Keiichi burst right from it just as the power smashed into shrine.

"Clever aren't you?" gasped Keiichi. "Ah, Rin. Come to watch your beloved be slaughtered at the hands of the man you are truly worthy for? Silly me, that spell is still on you isn't it? Well, no harm in letting it stay there. Kasumi has probably injured the rest of your family and friends. She'll be arriving shortly."

"What have you done to her!" shouted Sota, raising his hand towards Keiichi.

"She wanted love from the one she loved most. I gave her a chance at that. But I know how this works. The evil demon reveals his plan and it sets him up for his downfall. You are much like me Sota, having a love pine after someone who doesn't want them. But that will all change! I SHALL CLAIM RIN AS MINE AND NO ONE SHALL STOP ME!"

Sota expected some attack being made but no one moved. Nothing happened. He looked around him. Everything looked exactly the same. He caught sight of Rin. His eyes widened...she walking towards Keiichi!

She ran right past him and into his arms! He held a finger against her throat and suddenly she let out a contented sigh. "Finally, to be able to speak again!" she cooed.

"R-Rin, what are you doing?" shouted Sesshomaru. Keiichi simply clucked his tongue and suddenly, something suddenly ripped into the demon lord. Yoh went flat on his back, crying like hell. Sesshomaru's body fell like it had been cut in ribbons onto the pale stone, blood splattering everywhere. It speckled Yoh who was screeching on the top of his lungs.

His yellow power could be seen surrounding him and flailing out. Sota scooped him up and turned back to Rin and Keiichi. What he saw made him want to vomit. They were engrossed in the deepest make out session that Sota had ever seen. His breath hitched in his throat.

"This...this isn't real. It's not happening...not happening!" he coughed, trying to take in air.

"I WANT MOMMY! I WANT DADDY! SOTA, SOTA WHERE ARE THEY!" screeched Yoh.

"It's quite real. There is no illusion spell that I could have cast unless you were closer to me and you are very far away from me, as it seems. There is no dome around this temple that holds illusions. This is real. Rin has chosen ME." Said Keiichi smugly.

"N-no...no, no, no, no, no." Sota repeated over and over to himself. He clenched his fist and let it go, suddenly exploding with power. He yelled out angrily, and charged towards Keiichi, swinging his hand to bring it down on him.

"This...this isn't real. It's not happening...not happening!" cried Sota as he clutched his head. Rin was frightened as she saw Keiichi laughing loudly, his eyes flashing a bright white. Sota's knees were buckling, and he was sweating profusely and looked like he was trying to rip his hair out.

Rin desperately wanted to scream, to cry out to him. But if Keiichi could only take away the stupid spell! Suddenly, Sota let out the worst cry that she had ever heard him cry and he rushed straight at Sesshomaru. Her father had been caught off guard and the next thing that Rin saw was he flying across the air and into a thick stone pillar. She clapped her hands over her mouth but the remembered she could not have cried out if she wanted to.

"You won't touch her anymore you bastard! You don't deserve her!" screamed Sota, standing up. Sesshomaru stood up from the rubble, his back dirtied with the impact of the blast. Yoh was wailing still but was not hurt. Sesshomaru zipped past Sota and gave Yoh to Rin before he was attacked again.

"What the hell is wrong with you boy?" called Sesshomaru, dodging the blasts of power. "Have you gone loony?"

"Can't you hit me little boy? Have you gone soft?" Keiichi nagged as he easily dodged Sota's blows. He zoomed around jumping against the pillars, keeping away from a very outraged Sota. Rin was laughing her head off, tears rolling down her face. Sota had set a very distraught Yoh by her and she had taken him in her arms. Strangely he was silent and looking quite happy.

"You're so pathetic Sota! How can you possibly protect me if you can't even defeat Keiichi?" she cried.

"SHUT UP!" yelled Sota glancing at her, sending another blast of power at Keiichi. How could she be saying such things? Perhaps she was possessed, under a spell. He would kill Keiichi and save her later.

"Stop is Sota! Stop it, stop it!" Rin cried silently as he continued to attack her father. "Why are you doing this?"

"SHUT UP!" he screamed at her. Rin snapped her mouth shut. More tears sprung to her eyes. Then they widened and she gasped.

'How was he able to hear me? I can't speak out loud...' she thought in a frenzy of confusion. 'If only Kagome was here!'

"Rin!" shouted Sesshomaru. "Come! Let's go get Kagome!" Rin started to run to her father, stretching her hand out, Yoh hugging onto her, babbling about he wanted his blocks from back home. Sesshomaru zoomed away from Sota and latched onto his daughter, zooming away from the shrine. The demon lord hugged both his daughter and his small nephew.

Rin started to cry as they left, her tears making quite a wet spot on Sesshomaru's tattered clothing. What spell was possibly being used on Sota? How could she save him? She tried to speak...tried to utter one word.

"S-s-sot-t-ta."

Author's Note:

Well, dear readers. I hope that you are anxious to read the next chapter. School has started for me. To be honest, I suck at school and want to keep time open for that. But I do love you and need to explain why its taken me so freakishly damn long to update.

My Dell lappy doesn't have an A drive, so that means no floppies. That means I can't taken stories directly off my downstairs computer to work on. I would have to put them into a floppy, bring it upstairs to the newer computer, transfer the floppy to a CD drive and then put it in my lappy. However, my lappy and the upstairs computer don't have the same CD drive.

Therefore, that entire process is useless. I will have to go back to just uploading them from the downstairs computer which does not yet have DSL and ties up the phone line (pisses step-dad off when I hafta use the Net down there) or just upload them from upstairs. Anyway, will be trying hard to get you more writings by the fab me!

I love you all, please forgive my sad, sad little brain.
