Chapter Sixteen: The Ending of a Nightmare
Last Chapter:
"You can kill me." Said Sota in a wavered voice. There came a great many shout of protests.
Sango handed off Yoh to Inuyasha as one last group of demons rushed forward to try and kill the small group. Sota told them to be quiet. "I deserve to die for what I've done. I attacked you I'm assuming. I...I...k-killed..." he stumbled.
Sota tried to force the words out but was unable to. Sesshomaru picked his hand up and moved it towards Sota who closed his eyes and flinched. But he felt Sesshomaru's hand settle upon his shoulder. Sota opened his eyes and stared at him.
"She did love you." He told the boy. "We will bury here at the palace, you can come whenever you wish."
"Um, I don't think that's a good idea." Said Inuyasha. "You'll be murdering her."
"Inuyasha, what are you talking about, she's dead, I killed her!" protested Sota in painfully agony.
"Then um, why is she moving?" he asked. All heads turned towards Rin. She was no longer lying on the ground. But instead, she was standing, walking slowly towards Sota. An odd light was around her.
"Wha-? Oh my god! Inuyasha, look at Yoh!" said Kagome in alarm. Yoh's hands were also glowing. He was smiling actually and as Rin came to Sota she smiled.
"I knew I could save you." She whispered before her eyes closed again and she fell into Sota's arms.
The Story Ends...Sota waited impatiently in the hospital waiting room along with Kagome, Inuyasha, and Mrs. Hirugashi, Sango, Miroku, their twins, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru. Yoh was sitting quietly on Kagome's lap, playing with one of his blocks.
It had been a great ordeal after the battle with Keiichi was over. Not only did they have to bring Rin back, but also they had to bring Kasumi back to her family. Kagome had taken the Jewel to protect like Kikyo before her (when Inuyasha mentioned this Kagome sat him around thirty times, Sota lost count after fifteen) and Kasumi's body had returned too normal.
The group had not come up with a way to explain Kasumi's death...so they thought it best that her parents were told the truth. They cried and shouted and that was the last the time Sota had ever spoken to them. It had been a week or so ago. Now, the doctors in the hospital said that Rin was awake. Sesshomaru hadn't been too keen on letting Rin go to a "smelly death place" as he had put it, but Inuyasha convinced him.
The silver haired demons looked out of place even in modern clothes and hats to hide their pointed ears. The group rose as the doctor came out to see them with a mild look of satisfaction on his face.
"Mr. Denman, you're daughter is awake. But I'm afraid that only one person may go in right now. We don't want to tire her. Will you be going in?" asked the doctor. Sesshomaru looked around at the group. Sota was sitting on a chair, his head in his hands.
"No," he said, shaking his head. "I'm afraid I won't."
Sota's head snapped up at this.
"He'll be going in."
All eyes turned towards Sota who merely stood and walked over to Sesshomaru. In a split second, he gave him a quick hug, muttered a thank you and rushed off into Rin's room to see her. Sesshomaru just smiled.
"R-Rin?" said Sota, standing at her bedside. She wasn't hooked up to tubes or anything anymore, but was just resting. "Are...are you feeling...?"
"Better? Oh yes." Rin said with a smile. "I told them I would save you. And I did didn't I?"
"Yeah, yeah you did." He replied. "Rin...I need to ask you something."
"What?" she said with a quizzical look on her face. Sota bent down and whispered something into her ear as a very shiny object found its way onto her hand. There was a loud giggle and the yell of:
"Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, damn yes!"
"Nodaka, move over I can't see!" exclaimed Hajime as they crowded around the couch. A now 19-year-old Rin was sitting next to her husband, arms wrapped lovingly around a little baby boy. Yoh was in his uncle's lap.
"Haru sure is tiny," he said.
"Yes he is so you need to be careful. Like I told you to be with your blocks yesterday and you brought a tree down." Said Inuyasha, ruffling his son's hair.
"D-a-ad." Yoh whined.
"Y-y-oh." Inuyasha replied.
"I just am thankful I am not scared of all the machines anymore." Said the pretty new mother. "And I do want to thank you so much Mrs. Hirugashi for letting all of us stay here while Sota goes to school."
"It's not trouble at all." She said with a smile. "A grandmother twice over, that's me. I couldn't be more happy to help you out until Sota graduates and gets a job."
"That will be for awhile yet, so I say spoil Haru while you can." Said Sota. His mother hugged him around the shoulders.
"My little boy, all grown up." Mrs. Hirugashi said. "I can't believe this...I..."
Tears started to roll down her face as she hugged her son and daughter to her.
"I wonder what sort of powers he'll have," said Nodaka.
"Maybe laser eyes," put in Hajime.
"Or a big tail!" shouted Nodaka.
"Or maybe..."
The adults just groaned as the two rattled on. Rin and Sota looked down at their son, at each and just burst out laughing. You would never be able to tell that all those years ago...they nearly died to be together. And not a single person in the happy family, blood related or surrogate, not one of them regrets...the day that Rin met Sota.
THE END
Author's Note:
Here is the very last chapter of When Rin Meets Sota. I hope that you all have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
I would like to thank my reviewers who gave me the strength and encouragement to continue on with the story even when I didn't update for long periods of time and left them with cliffhangers.
I hope you will enjoy reading I Am the Son of Koga; Shippo Is My Name when I get the first few chapters up. I do suggest that you take a look at A Demon's Heart my story about Sesshomaru's hatred of humans. If enough people read it and review, wanting me to continue it, I might take it off Hiatus.
Also, keep a lookout for stories concerning Hajime, Nodaka, Yoh and Haru. After all, who said the story ended with their parents?
