Ballad

Behind tears that you won't cry,

Lies the bravery in your heart;

And a pain that cuts so deep

It grieves my soul, but we must part.

'Cross the plains where we have run

Flies a heart you long to know.

Over paths you showed to me,

It grieves my heart, but I must go.

I cannot grant you what you seek:

My heart was given long ago;

I hope that you will understand,

Or that you will never know.

You have closed your heart to all

And you've shunned the light of day.

Knowing this, and nothing more:

I have turned and gone away.

You will find a home, I know,

Because you are brave and true,

But what you would ask of me

I could never give to you.
